As part of #YouthNTDsFellowship Cohort 2, we are inviting professionals and practitioners to mentor emerging young leaders through meaningful knowledge exchange, guidance, and professional development. We welcome mentors with backgrounds in #NTDs, #PublicHealth, #OneHealth, research, policy, advocacy, community engagement, innovation, and related fields. Mentorship offers an opportunity to share perspectives, challenge new thinking, provide practical guidance, and help emerging leaders navigate their professional journeys with greater clarity and confidence. For Cohort 1, the fellowship created a space where young professionals could ask questions, exchange ideas, challenge assumptions, and engage with the realities of neglected tropical diseases from perspectives beyond their own. Progress against neglected tropical diseases (#NTDs) is accelerating worldwide. The World Health Organization validation of Timor-Leste for eliminating #trachoma as a public health problem marks a major moment on two fronts: 1️⃣ Global Momentum: Timor-Leste becomes part of a growing global movement, bringing the total to 64 countries that have now eliminated at least one NTD. 2️⃣ Regional Elimination: As the last country with suspected endemic trachoma in the World Health Organization South-East Asia Region, Timor-Leste’s achievement officially clears trachoma as a public health problem across the entire region. Trachoma remains the leading infectious cause of blindness globally. Eliminating it required a rigorous, multi-year strategy combining field investigations, comprehensive population surveys, and integrated health services. This outcome is a powerful testament to the impact of sustained domestic leadership, high-quality surveillance, and international collaboration. Congratulations to the Ministry of Health of the Government of Timor-Leste, local health personnel, and global partners driving us closer to the WHO 2030 NTD roadmap targets. Invasive #mosquito species detected in east #London: UK Health Security Agency finds invasive #Aedes aegypti breeding in east London, prompting enhanced surveillance. Whilst Aedes mosquitoes have already been detected four times in the UK in recent years, this sighting is noteworthy as it is the first time that Aedes aegypti has been identified breeding in the UK. The One Health Society-Tanzania has developed this Advocacy Guide for Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS): A Toolkit for Civil Society Organizations, drawing on years of frontline experience advocating for FGS within Tanzania’s health and policy landscape. Offered as a first-edition, field-tested resource, the guide provides practical methods, tools, and lessons for CSOs working to raise the visibility of FGS and other neglected diseases. As the guide notes, it is “a working document, offered as a first edition based on experience to date,” designed to help organizations adapt, build on, and strengthen their own advocacy and communications efforts. The NTD NGO Network (NNN) is inviting nominations for our new Vice Chair! This year I will be moving to the role of NNN Chair and this is an exciting opportunity to join the NNN leadership team as our new Vice Chair. I am deeply grateful to Unlimit Health for their continued support and encouragement to help me allocate time to the NNN, and I am thankful to Dorin Turgeman and Dr. Gilbert Baayenda MBA PhD for their mentorship and collaboration as part of the NNN leadership team. This has been a rich and rewarding role, deepening and widening NNN's membership base, supporting a new community of practise on integration, strengthening our collaboration platforms as part of the NNNs operational plan and of course more recently preparing for our annual conference in Kigali next month!
