Games have always been a technical art form. But as the tools for capturing human performance become more sophisticated, Ashley Keeler says there's a real risk of losing the human at the centre of the process. This Wednesday (20 May, 11am), StudioT3D are hosting a brilliant panel bringing together practitioners from performance, theatre, and production to ask: what does it actually take to deliver a truthful in-game performance? Join Ashley Keeler from StudioT3D, Kirsty Gillmore from Sounds Wilde, Beth Park from PitStop Productions, and Philip Stevens from Arctic Hazard - to cover all things voice, casting, narrative, and motion capture. Question: How do you celebrate the Scottish Games industry (especially in Elgin Moray)? Answer: Meet the amazing Gabriella Castaneda of SIE Ukie to take a look at the full manifesto and how we can support game developers (from indie to AAA) in this area of the Highlands & Islands. Massive thanks to the team at Code Wizards Group North, Andrew F., HexWar Professional Military Education and Hunted Cow Games for coming along to discuss how we can turbo boost the sector locally. (and it's a shame I'm a Muppet and failed to invite the legend that is Colin Macdonald of the SGDA - sorry Colin!) #videogames #elgin #moray #gametech #ScottishGames #SGDA

As I head to the UK Venture Capital Summit this week, read the first of my regular pieces for PocketGamer.biz about the way ahead for the industry - with thanks to Craig Chapple, Dave Bradley and PocketGamer.biz for letting me loose on their platform! I'll be focusing on the emerging landscape for video games and interactive entertainment and what opportunities lie ahead for UK businesses. Let me know if there's a topic you'd be particularly keen for me to cover in a future update! #Supercharged
"It’s too early to say that winter is turning to spring, but I think we are beginning to see a new, perhaps slightly more realistic investment landscape beginning to emerge." In his first column for PocketGamer.biz, Ukie CEO Nick Poole OBE takes a look at the games industry investment landscape and whether the sector is set for an upswing over the next 18 months. What impact do games really have? That's a question we want to answer with as much confidence as possible. OKRE and Ukie have today published "Building a Unified Framework For UK Video Games Impacts", a new report mapping the cultural, societal and economic reach of UK video games. Through both supply chain mapping and a pioneering impacts framework, the report identifies how video games are rapidly crossing over into other industries, such as Healthcare and Education, and shaping culture across Fashion, Music, Film and TV. As a result, the report establishes a foundation for researchers and policymakers to better understand, evidence and maximise the diverse ways that games generate meaningful real-world value. Iain Dodgeon, Director of OKRE: "Research is the games industry's secret weapon in unlocking more support and growth. We are calling on the UK games sector to come together with academia and government and fill the crucial research gaps our report has identified." Nick Poole OBE Poole, CEO of Ukie: "We need to move away from framing discussions about 'good' or 'bad' impacts of games. This report sets up the industry to continue building a more sophisticated picture." The report was supported by the BFI National Lottery Innovation Challenge. 👉 You can read the full report here: https://zurl.co/kyaIF Want to help out?
