Top Ten

I recently read a post on someones blog that listed all the reasons why this particular woman loves it when her husband is gone (on business or otherwise). I thought I'd follow suit.

I couldn't think of any!
Oh sure, this other post gave many good reasons to savor the occasion like: 1) not having to shave your legs 2) not having to wear a bra 3) not having to cook etc..... but quite honestly, I didn't think any of these were reasons to celebrate. I hate it when Dustin is gone. I don't like it when he doesn't come home to me each night. So here is my own list.

Top Ten Reasons I Enjoy The Presence Of My Husband:

10. He runs the remote. I know, many of you think that a man with a remote is obnoxious. I must agree in part (all that mindless channel surfing!) but, I like that it takes the pressure off me to find a show we both agree on. I would rather read a book anyway, so I really don't mind that he hops from CNN to Hair Nation to The History Channel to Seinfeld.

9. He's like the family pet. I don't mean that in a negative way, I mean it most sincerely. I love that he's willing to sit on my cold little toes at night while we enjoy our time on the couch. I love that he allows me to snuggle up and find contentment in his arms. Who needs a dog when I've got him?

8. Speaking of keeping my feet warm, I thoroughly appreciate his consideration when it comes to actually going to bed. While I'm scrubbing off my make-up, he'll slide into bed on my side and get it all warm and toasty for me. And in the night, if I get chilled, he's always willing to let me tuck my freezing feet under his legs.

7. He takes the pressure off when I've had enough of the kids. Something magical happens when he walks in the door. There's no need for "Abracadabra", the sound of the garage door going up starts it all. It flips the switch for all of us. We feel the excitement build and then, when we see his face, it's the relief we have all been waiting for!

6. He's a great dad. He likes to play with the kids, you know, all that wrestling and piggy-back riding. I love that he is teaching the kids to ski and that he introduces them to all his favorite songs. I don't know any other little girls who know Journey, Bon Jovi and Scorpions better than my two.

5. He is hilarious! And I mean hilarious! Not a day goes by at our house that doesn't have laughter in it. He makes us chortle, guffaw and sometimes roar with delight! And the best thing about his humor is that it keeps us all humble (as we seem to be his best punch-lines).

4. He always has extra money stashed away to relieve me of my financial burdens when I overuse my check book. I'm sure he has a special account set up just for me. Maybe it's called Wendi's Bailout Money.

3. He makes a reservation for me every night. Not at a restaurant, but on our own comfy couch. He helps me get the kids to bed so that I can assume my exclusive spot at his side. It's our own little "table-for-two" to reconnect and enjoy each others company after a long day.

2. He loves to cook and since I don't, this is a brilliant reason for me to enjoy his presence! He not only loves to cook, he's actually really good at it. He likes to see if he can recreate dishes we've had at various restaurants and does a fantastic job. And that's icing on the cupcake for me!

1. He is my best friend, my protector, and my champion. I love that he is always looking out for me. I love that he always has my best interest in mind. I love that he brings home little sweet treats just for me, ones I don't even have to share with the kids!

As you can tell, I'm missing him. He's been gone since Thursday, he'll be home tomorrow only to leave again Tuesday. Poor me. But the weekend will soon be here and nothing is going to get us off that couch!
