I got this graphic novel adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s ‘The Road‘ yesterday. It looked very beautiful and so I immediately paused my current reading project, and started reading this today.

In a post apocalyptic world, in a bleak, desolate, wintry landscape, a father and son are travelling on the road. They are trying to get away from the cold by moving south. They hope that the warm climes of the south with be better and also the dangers will be less there. What happens to this duo, and how they navigate the dangers on the road, and how this father tries to do everything in his power to preserve his son’s innocence and protect him from all the terrible dangers on the way form the rest of the story.
The landscape featured in the story is cold, desolate, bleak. The illustrations are incredibly beautiful and bring that bleakness to life in a very realistic way. We can feel the winter chill in our bones. I haven’t read McCarthy’s original novel, but have seen the film adaptation and loved it. This graphic novel adaptation by Manu Larcenet is fantastic. I spent a lot of time looking at each panel and admiring the artwork. So happy to have read this, though the story is bleak. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend it.
Have you read this graphic novel adaptation of ‘The Road’? What do you think about it?
