I love outdoor activities. That is something that I've been exposed and atracted to since I was small... prolly when I was 7-8 years old. I miss going for a snorkeling at Pulau Beras Basah or sleeping in the tent at Datai, before it was explored by some high profile resort projects. Pulau Beras Basah and Datai have the best beaches ever! I learned how to kayak when I was 8 years old, and I remember it well! And I joined my first kayak expedition in Langkawi from Pulau Beras Basar to Pulau Singa Besar with the UPM students when I was 9. Yeah..9! Itu belum kira kena campak tidur dalam hutan untuk survival session, abseiling, flying fox etc etc. (Ohh.. and I learned how to operate a rubber dinghy first before a car! Hahaha.) Thanks to my father who was the then General Fasilitator for the Outdoor Education at UPM.
Anyway, it's been a while since I last joined abah with his camping trip, and when he asked me to join in, I was jumping here and there saying "Yes, I'm in! I'm in!". Mama kata macam kera dapat bunga. Haha. Whatever. Even if there's no beach this time, I'll make do with jungle and river! ;) I longed for this kind of trip. I want to be in close-proximity with nature! That is the best treatment to rejuvenate and de-stress myself from all problems.
The camp was organized by ASAS Outdoors for the UIA international students sponsored by Albukhary Foundation. I'm not the participant. The original plan was to be the observer and join in for the Kayak Expedition only, but I ended up being the participant cum translator for the international students and part time urusetia. We learned so many things like the water safety, radio communication, abseiling and the CPR procedure (External Chest Compression + Artificial Resuscitation).
Amir Haridan doing abseiling! Good job lah adik! Unfortunately I was not allowed to participate because of my knee condition. Blearghhh~

But the highlight was of course, the KAYAK EXPEDITION: Sg. Perak! The journey was roughly around 18km, so I've been told. We had a good
5 hours paddling our kayak left and right (try not to capsize when we fought against the rapid river flow). I was on a single-kayak and it makes it a lot tougher! Mind you, there's only 3 (or was it 2?) girls on single kayak and the rest were on double. *wink*
Briefing prior to the expeditionAbang Saiful (team leader) giving out instruction to paddle to his right side.
My adik Arif yo! Phewiiiiiiiit! Haha. That's me 14 years ago!
Our First Pitstop (after 1 and half hours):

With Nassour (Chad), Anis Ur Rahman (Bangladesh), Shakir (Maldives), Syed (Afghanistan), Farida (Vietnam) and Amalina (Thailand)
After kayaking for 1 and half hours after the first stop, we had our second Pitstop :

Yang si kenit itu naik bot sahaja.
Uncle Asrul, Osama and Amir; resting!
With Syed and Jetmir (red cap) at our second lap. Ohh..Jetmir a.k.a Miri, kawan cari pasal and geng karaoke kat camp! :) (Abaikan tudung bulat tutup dahi itu)
Rafting at first bridge.

Hahaha. Ini lawak. Cap biru yang dicuri masa second lap expedition. Panas gila okeh!
It was fun. I got friends from all around the globe. I had fun 'arguing' with some of them like Miri and Tarique. I learned how to make Vietnamese spring rolls from Farida and Hakim, and chicken kabsa from the Saudi team. I simply had fun. Period. Tapi muka berkilat lah kena sunburn. Bukan setakat berkilat, berbelang-belang dan merah macam udang kena bakar! Nampak gaya macam tak boleh keluar rumah seminggu!
Rafting for a picture. Final lap, second bridge!

I guess, that's that.
Happy holiday people!
lala.
