FanArt Friday! (10/19/18) (Theme: Critical Role)

Hello everyone! Been a while, I know, but I’m here still and I come bearing fanart! I’m splitting it into three categories: Vox Machina, The Mighty Nein, and I’m going to include a section further down that involves spoilers but it will have a large warning before it in case you don’t want to ruin it for yourself. I will more than likely make more Critical Role fanart posts in the future, this is just such a good show. Enjoy!

That was a lot, but there were just SO many options! I will definitely be making more fanart Critical Role posts. Hope you all enjoyed this. Have a great day!

Critical Role (A new(ish) obsession)

CxB8r4NP

So, if you remember I started playing D&D a few months ago right? Well, to get a better understanding I started watching Critical Role per a friend’s suggestion. I started with Campaign 2 per that same friend’s suggestion. That was a few months ago and I am now deeply invested.

For those of you who don’t know or I have heard of it but never knew what it was, it’s a show “where a bunch of nerdy-ass voice actors sit around and play Dungeons & Dragons” Now for some of you that may not be your cup of tea but if you enjoy narrative stories or RPG style games then you will enjoy this. The stories are phenomenal and really well made. And the choices that the characters make really affect the outcome of the story and the events that follow.

So there is a lot of episodes in campaign one and they start out playing at a higher level as well. So if you want to start from the beginning of a level one game I’d start with campaign two (link for this first episode can be found right here). So let’s meet the cast, shall we?

VM-Episode100
Top left to the bottom right: Sam Riegel (Nott the Brave), Taliesin Jaffe (Mollymauk) Marisha Ray (Beauregard), Matt Mercer (DM), Liam O’Brien (Caleb Widogast), Laura Bailey (Jester), Ashley Johnson (Yasha), Travis Willingham (Fjord)

Now you may not recognize their faces but they voice some of your favourite animes, cartoons, and video games. This group meets and airs, every Thursday 7PM Pacific Standard Time and 10PM Eastern Standard Time. You can find them on Twitch, Alpha, VRV for the VOD, and Youtube. Thursday’s episode is uploaded to Youtube every Monday.

Campaign 2 is about a motley group of ragtag individuals coming together and fighting bad guys, facing impossible tasks, and going on wild adventures. The players explore the world the DM has built and meet characters in this world. Everything is pretty much on the spot improv because this is an RPG game. The actors come up with their own backstories for their characters though and slowly, bits and pieces come to light during the episodes. Their backstory helps shape how they play the game.

Back: DM, Left to Right: Mollymauk, Beauregard, Fjord, Caleb and his cat Frumpkin, Nott the Brave, Jester, Yasha.

This group of people bring these characters and world to life and make it such a wonderful and beautiful piece of art that they give us the privilege to be a part of. They do a lot of charity work to which I personally think is an amazing thing. You can find a list of all of their personal charities they’re involved in here on their fact page, but the big one that the whole group back is 826LA which is a non-profit writing and tutoring organization which helps a lot of kids and they even host D&D campaigns for the kids and teach them how to run a campaign and play.

The show is sponsored by D&D Beyond which is a really cool tool to build character sheets and keep track of all of your stuff, and if you’re like me and really bad at math, it does the math for you when you level up. I bring this up because there is a FANTASTIC animation that D&D Beyond did for this campaign and I geek out every time I watch it so I wanted an excuse to share it. If you were on the fence before about watching this then maybe this will help you.

You can’t tell me that wasn’t cool.

A Fantasy realm with dragons, monsters, magic, and all sorts of mischief and quests to be found. What more could you want? I binged this second campaign and got caught up so I could start watching it live and let me tell you it is a wild ride from start to finish. You won’t be bored I promise.

Here’s a link to their website, go check them out!
