Monthly Premium Membership subscriptions are available through our PayPal and Stripe payment processors. Your PayPal account will need to have a validated mailing address and be linked to a reliable backup funding source (generally, a credit card) before you will be able to initiate your Premium Membership monthly subscription in There.
To start your new Premium Member monthly subscription, go to There.com to create an avatar and download the latest version of the 3-D client. When you login, a link will be made available for you to start a subscription. Your monthly payment will then be deducted automatically from your PayPal account each month. You can cancel your subscription to There at any time, without harming your avatar. (It just reverts to trial status until you start a new subscription.)
If you are not ready to make a monthly commitment, but want to give the virtual world There a try, you can register for a Basic Trial Membership. Basic Trial members require an age-check which unlocks the ability to use text chat in-world. The age-check consists of a one-time (per avatar) charge of $0.50 USD. This great deal does come with some limitations.
Members can log in and play for FREE as Silent Trial members. Silent Trials have the same limitations as Basic Trials, plus some additional constraints on communication since they have not passed an age-check.
You can play There for free as a Silent Trial account. Silent Trials cost nothing, and do not require a credit card, but your chat is limited to Phoenix Stars (Volunteer New Member Helpers) and Staff members only. A Silent Member cannot communicate via text or Voice with Premium Members. Basic Trial members can use text to communicate with everyone in the Thereian community with the exception of free Silent Trial members.
Silent and Basic Trial accounts are able to purchase items from Auctions. However, accounts that are considered "brand new" will need to log into the virtual world a few times before their new member status wears off and Auction access becomes available. If you are new to There as a Silent or Basic Trial member and try to make an Auction purchase during your very first visit, you may see an error message on the Auction page such as: "Sorry, but you are not allowed to bid on this item. It is probably restricted to Premium Members only." To avoid this delay, upgrading to Premium allows you to purchase Auction items immediately. If you choose to remain a Silent or Basic Trial member, simply log in a few more times until your newness period passes and after that, you'll be able to buy freely from Auctions.
Please note, Silent Trial nametags will appear as an assigned generic avatar name to other avatars in-world. Once the Silent Trial account has been upgraded to a Basic Trial or Premium Membership, the avatar's chosen name will appear on their nametag to other members in-world. This limitation discourages griefers from nametag abuse.
Note: You can purchase Therebucks and buy virtual items while you are a Silent or Basic Trial Member.
