Where Did August Go?

Sometimes the most mundane moments are just the best.

*** but I love it.

This August......

And the next two from July....

In this last photo, Ava had just finished choosing 100% of Sterling's outfit. Everything from the backwards hat "wearing it like a boy", down to the size 3 Toddler socks pulled up to his squishy knees.
She is extremely proud of her fashionable prowess.  Better watch your back, Rachel Zoe.

Interviewing Each Other

Katy:  Happy Anniversary, T.  Seven years, can you believe it?

Taylorawkward pause....  Um.  I feel pressure to say something really profound right now...  Happy Anniversary to you too?

Katy:  haha! Was that a question?

Taylor: No, it was a fact.  It was IN FACT a happy day.

Katy:  Yes, sir, it was.  Shall I tell Joe Public what we did today?

Taylor:  Sure, go ahead.  Let us start at the beginning *waving fingers in mystical-like fashion*

Katy:  We woke up and our babysitters, the cutest 11 year old twins ever, came over at around 10 this morning and we took off with our bikes to Webster Dam area and spent the morning mountain biking on the funnest trails ever.  And I'm just going to add, this was my first time ever and I had a blast!!!!  Of course, it got more fun once I realized...

Taylorinterrupting Once you realized that walking your bike down the hills was not nearly as awesome as actually RIDING it down.

Katy*laughs* Yes, Taylor, thank you. I was getting to that.  Admittedly, I was a bit gun shy about losing my life on the trails.  But it didn't take too long for me to get more comfortable and start braving some of the steeper trails ... granted, I'll need new back brakes for my bike already!

Taylor:  It was the perfect place to break in a new bike and a new rider.  You did really great, I was impressed.

Katy:  Why thank you, sir.  I had a great time.  Oh and thanks for buying me a new bike for your birthday.  Uh... greatest present you've ever gotten, right?

Taylor:  Well, if you promise we go out on the trails more often, then yes, it's the greatest present ever. Hint, hint.

Katy:  Fo sho.  Anyways... the rest of the day was great.  We hung out here for a couple of hours once we got back home and then dropped the kids off at some friends' houses and went to Captain America and ate at Costa Vida afterwards.  I had a great day.

Taylor:  As did I.  Soooooooo..... why did you want me to sit and talk while you write stuff down in your notebook?

Katy:  No questions from you, boy.  Just answers.

Taylor:  I'm scared.

Katy:  So, let's get to it.  Now that we've been married for seven GLORIOUS years, what are some of your favorite memories.  Talk slowly, so I can scribble all this down.

Taylor:  First. I. Want. To. Start...

Katy:  You can speak a little faster than that!

Taylor:  Okay.  First of all... we've had some really fun trips together.  Everything from the big ones: San Fran and France all the way down to the night we spent at the Red Lion Hotel in Idaho Falls when our rental flooded with nasty sewage water.

Katy:  Ha!  Remember that night at the hotel when it was packed with people returning from Oktoberfest, everyone was SO drunk, pretty funny!

Taylor: One of my favorite memories is when we took the small road trip through Kentucky and stopped in Frankfurt and found the greatest bookstore in the world.  Stacks of books everywhere.

Katy:  Yeah, that place was amazing... right out of a movie!  Everything was all dusty and there was that really pretty stained glass window.  Complete with creaky spiral staircase... sooo great!!

TaylorMovie buffets, Keith Urban concert, the Farm, Lagoon.... lot's of great stuff.

Katy: I love that we watched a horror movie the night we got married.  Yeah... not the best idea ever.  Especially since the B&B we stayed in had the same vibe as the creepy house in the movie.  Romantic.

Katy:  It's been really fun.  We've had some crazy times too.  Remember when we were in the car driving, this was long before we had Ava, and we were fighting about something (can't even remember what, of course) but things were getting heated up and when we both stopped talking (yelling?) for a moment, the radio was the only sound in the car... and right then, the song Don't Worry, Be Happy came on.  It was so cheesy and corny sounding that we both started cracking up at the same time.

Taylor*laughs*  Yeah.  That song could end just about any arguement.  We should keep that cd in the car forever... you know, just in case.

Taylor:  Well, I have a ton of great memories... but you've already blogged about a lot of them.  Snowshoeing was a good day.  But really, for me, I have to say that it's the small, boring days that are the best.  I really like how we both just are happiest with each other and the kids.  We don't even have to DO anything special.

Katy:  I agree completely.

Katy:  hahah!!  I love that you're humming "Don't Worry, Be Happy" now.  Dangit... now it's going to be stuck in my head!

Taylor:  Remember that time we went to Ririe Reservoir and we were climbing a pretty steep hill to jump off of and your face was just about a foot away from a bush that started rattling.  And you screamed, "RATTLESNAKE!!" and just sprinted up the rest of the hill out of sheer panic?  You jumped right off the edge, without hesitating, leaving four of us guys standing there looking pretty dumb.

Katy:  I'd like to say that I was being brave and full of awesome, but my adrenaline was pumping from nearly getting eaten alive by a rattler that I just wanted OFF the mountain.  Jumping was the fastest way.

both laughing

Katy:  I'm gonna get sort of mushy right now.  One of my favorite memories, or really TWO, are right after we had both Ava and Sterling.  You're not a crier, but I really loved that you teared up when both kids were born.  It was a real moment each time and I'll never forget it.

Taylor:  I'll get mushy too then.  The moments that I really, like, get touched are when I get to see you doing very typical Mom things, such as lying down with the kids or playing games and reading to them.  When you and Ava are laughing about some inside joke and Sterling is watching the two of you with a big, drooly smile on his face.  I get to stand back and watch this and feel pretty proud of my family... especially you, my wife.

Katy:  Thank you, T.  That was really sweet.  The same goes for me too.  You're a great Dad.

Taylor:  Remember that one time, we were eating outside at a little cafe in Danville and I was just about to eat the PERFECT strawberry when it slipped out of my fingers, rolled off the plate, off the table and onto the sidewalk. It immediately got kicked by a boy walking past our table and then snatched OUT OF THE AIR by the biggest dog just walking the opposite way.  Craziest experience of my life.  Seriously, we couldn't have made that up if we tried.

Katy:  I KNOW!!!!!  hahah!!!! That was completely surreal!!  The Bennetts and I are just watching, totally dumbfounded with our jaws dropping to the ground as this all happens!!  And after all that, you were so disappointed about the strawberry.  That was, what, 5 years ago?  That was so funny!  Now that I think about it, why didn't you just ask the waiter for another strawberry?

Taylor:  It just wouldn't have been the same.

Katy:  By the way.... great segue into the funny stuff after our mushy stuff... I didn't want this blog post to be all "iloveyousoooooooooomuch. you'remybestestfriendinthewholewideworld, sugarmuffin"

Taylor:  you're my bfff.

both laugh

Katy:  Remember when I was pregnant with Ava and we went to the mall for some maternity clothes.  In Motherhood Maternity, the dressing rooms don't have latched doors, just heavy curtains.

Taylor:  I'm interrupting by saying, that is the stupidest idea ever.  They're DRESSING ROOMS... they need doors.  With locks.

Katy*laughing hard*  And I was in one of the dressing rooms trying on some clothes and I needed a different size, so I asked you to get it for me.  So you go out and find the size and as I'm waiting for you to pass it to me, I hear the girl in the dressing room next to me say, "Oh!  No!!"  and then you say, "Ohmygosh, I'm so sorry!  I thought you were my wife!!  I'm sorry!"  Then the pants come flying into my dressing room as you announce, "I'm going to Old Navy... meet me there when you're done here".  I'm sitting there in my underwear, with this huge belly, cracking up!!!  Tears are rollin'!!!!

Taylor:  Yeah.  And I've never returned since.  Stupid store.

Katy:  HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!  My face hurts from laughing.

Taylor: All in all, I'd say we've done pretty good so far.

Katy:  Yeah, I agree.

Taylor:  Happy Seven Years.

Katy:  Wonder what we'll be doing for our 17th year anniversary?

Taylor:  Hopefully mountain biking again.

Katy:  Yeah... or Hawaii?

Taylor:  love you.

Katy:  love you too, bfff.

"Thirty, Flirty and Fun"

Name that movie and win a million dollars!!*

  Happy Birthday Mr. Wilson
August 1, 1981 was 30 years ago (give or take a few days) and that was a good day.
That was the day that Matthew Taylor Wilson was born in Wimbledon, England.
Or more specifically Wimbledon, London Borough of Merton, England. (I'm pretty sure that's what his birthplace is called.)

 Right. Here.

One fine day we shall go back to his birth place and walk these streets...

And perhaps to go this theater...

Maybe even sit at Center Court (hint hint)...

...and watch THIS guy do what he does best...
(Roger Federer... you rule)
But until our dream trip to England happens (pretty pretty please, fingers crossed), we'll just have to make do with what we've got.  And this year we hosted a Murder Mystery Dinner!

What an amazing night!  We had our friends over and dressed as our characters and we laughed and ate and acted out our parts to solve a MURDER.

The highlights:
*Beautiful ambiance... thousands of white lights in a canopy overhead
*Great food... cheeses, fruit, bread, and "wine".  Our Mystery was set around a theme that involved a winery- very fun
*No kids... tonight we took the saying "If you Love them, Leave them" to heart for a couple of hours.  So indulgent!
*Hysterical Laughter.  I don't remember laughing this hard in such a long time... we have some great friends!
*The accents!!!  Taylor's was "zee absolute best".  He was a German wine merchant.  And he wore his brother's authentic Lederhosen!  If you can, try to get Taylor to speak to you in an accent... ANY accent, he does them all perfectly: German, Scottish, Irish... but not Mexican... Please, leave that to me.

Happy 30th Birthday, Old Man, I love you.

*by the way... the answer to my first question is "13 Going on 30".  Too bad no body got it... no million for you. :)
