I May Or May Not Be Late With This Recap ~ In Which HAHA FUNNY JOKE

Okay, I know, it’s May 11, but in my defense, life is a thing that exists and has been happening. *serious nod*

Highlights from last month include: lots of work, lots of reading, lots of blogging, and falling in love. So that’s fun.

Summer’s coming up and I’m excited because we have a lot going on. May’s kind of boring, but June will be fun and so will July and then I go to college in August. It’ll be a rollercoaster. But people enjoy rollercoasters for a reason!

I think.

April Memories

To be honest, April is just one big muddle of random memories. It lasted so long. I feel like April was three months long. Which is ridiculous because April is one of the shorter months. TIME IS A WEIRD THING GUYS

Welp. Let’s start with the easily entertaining WORK MISHAPS!!!

1. Some dude who believes he’s the son of Elvis came by. . . . He kept saying I had pretty eyes. . . . Eventually, my boss just kicked him out. She ended up closing the store early just so he would stop hanging around and go pester someone else. I haven’t seen him since.

2. I met a lady with a son named Turtle, which is adorable and depressing at the same time.

3. I wore the costume for our mascot for less than ten minutes and I was sweating out of every orifice by the time I took it off.

4. A very fluffy and very excited service dog stopped by. His name was Simba and I love him.

5. We had to rearrange the store for summer and it was bleurgh

6. A lady came by and asked if we had any mustard-colored scrunchies (which we did not). When asked why she needed a mustard-colored scrunchie, she told us she was going to the Taylor Swift costume as the Lover era with her two granddaughters. I am jealous.

7. There was one day when I was supposed to work at the mall Claire’s, but I stopped by Walmart before work and my boss was at the Walmart Claire’s and she was like “Do you just want to work here today instead of at the other store?” Of course I said yes.

8. A lady got mad at me for the way I smiled at her. While we were having a conversation. :/

Kind of an uneventful month on the chaos front, but there was still plenty of chaos. There always is, working retail.

I started wearing makeup more often at the beginning of the month. That fizzled after a couple weeks. It was fun while it lasted.

My new blog launched!! I’ve had so much fun writing posts for it and reading the comments and chatting with people via the email list. It’s good to have something fresh and new. Not to say I don’t enjoy Windows anymore, but iflaf is an outlet for me to be pretty and aesthetic.

I was accepted into the music school at college AND given a scholarship!! I also set up my fall schedule with my student advisor, so I know what classes I’m taking and what my schedule will be. I’m so excited!!! I can’t believe I’m about to go to college. It’s so weird to think about.

Easter was a great day. The church was full, the music was wonderful, I wore my favorite outfit, and my dad sang southern Gospel songs all the way home. I spent the entire afternoon drowning in nostalgia while watching old Minecraft videos. *nodnod*

I finished high school. Kind of on accident. I’m a high school graduate now. Everyone in the youth group is jealous I’m already done with school. What can I say, some of us have it and some of us don’t *flips hair*

My friend got bit by a dog. And then went to the ER. When she told me, she started out her text with “LOL” and it just went downhill from there. But she’s fine. She just has a massive gouge out of her thigh. Nobody died!

I think Lover is now my favorite Taylor Swift album, but reputation is a close second.

I’m up on the Deltarune lore and gosh I wish I could tell stories and write music like Toby Fox can.

Me, my mom, and my sisters went to my cousin’s bridal shower and we had a good time. I drove to and from and on the way home, I took the wrong road off a roundabout and confused the GPS. It ended up being a good thing though, because the way the GPS took us to get back on the right road was the most scenic route I’ve ever driven on. It was lovely.

The youth group played Mafia after Bible study and I was the mafia. My acting skillz came in CLUTCH. No one suspected me until the end of the game! I was one round away from winning and the two boys left finally caught on. It was a tragic loss.

I decided I’m going to listen to every single musical in existence. Wikipedia has two pages full of musicals, so I’m set for life.

April Book Reviews

I read a lot of books in April. I regret reading half of them. You’ll see what I mean in a minute.

Cress, Winter, Stars Above, and Fairest by Marissa Meyer

These are the last four books in the Lunar Chronicles series and I finally got around to reading them all!! I read Cinder and Scarlet ages ago and never finished the series. So I finally got around to it. I’m in love.

I don’t know why I waited so long to finish the series because I love these characters so much. I ship Cress and Thorne SO hard. The story is great and I love the way it ended.

The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson

Janner, Tink, and Leeli Igiby are just normal kids living in a normal town with their normal mother and mostly normal grandfather. The only thing not normal about their lives are the horrible Fangs of Dang that govern the island of Skree, where the Igibys live. When Tink finds a mysterious map while helping Janner out at the bookstore, Books & Crannies, neither of them realize how big of an impact the events that follow will have on their life. Because Janner, Tink, and Leeli are not normal children. And it seems their life will never be normal again.

I. . . . am not a fan of this series. It’s marketed as a middle grade series but it gets so dark, especially in the last two books. There are multiple scenes where the main character is literally being tortured, several graphic monsters, and a lot of mistreatment from supporting characters and the plot itself. It bothered me a lot. I really liked the first book because of the unique characters and the quirky storytelling but, as the series went on, it got to be too much for me to stomach. And that’s coming from someone who loves dark and unsettling things with a weird passion. I read all the books but I can’t say I’ll ever read them again.

It gets two stars for the first book and for killing off lots of characters and leaving them dead.

April Goal Recap

1. SPEND NO MONEY (OUTSIDE OF NECESSITIES AND/OR EMERGENCIES) ✔

I did it! I went the whole month without spending anything! And then I immediately blew all my money at Belk! I’m so good at this saving thing!

2. READ FIVE BOOKS THIS MONTH ✔

I read seven! I hated half of them but I still read them! I’m actually ahead of schedule on my reading goal for this year, so that’s pretty sick!

I barely managed to survive. But I survived!

1. Get Back to Applying For Scholarships

I’ve been letting my scholarship game slack. . . . and Lord knows I need them *facepalm*

It’s been in my drafts for ages. I need to get it done. It’s one that I’m excited about posting, too.

3. Catch Up On Penpaling

I’m behind again. Big surprise there. *exasperated sigh*

4. Slow Down and Regain My Footing

Life is crazy and since the next few months are going to be even crazier, I just want to take time to slow down and re-center myself before I move away. Spend some time at work earning money, spend some time at home with my siblings, spend some time alone to get into the right headspace. I’m trying not to stress because I know it’s all God’s plan.

April Stats:

Blog posts published: 3
Letters written: 2
Letters received: 3
Words written (outside of blog posts): 0
Journal entries: 8
Books started: 7
Books finished: 7

It’s been a month. And I certainly did things during the month. And now it’s another month. So that’s fun.

Welp. See y’all around.
