The Suspiciously Specific Songs Tag ~ In Which I Have Created My Own Music Tag Because Of Course I Did

๐ŸŽต Accidental hiatus alerttttt!!! ๐ŸŽต

I got a bunch of messages from people who were worried about me but DON’T WORRY GUYS I LIVE. Life just got to lifeing and I was swept right on along. But I have really enjoyed my few weeks off from blogging and I got a lot of stuff done, which is super cool. I’m not sure when I’ll go back to posting on i feel like a fairy, but I certainly missed posting here. So, without further ado, enjoy this post that I started writing months ago and never actually finished LOL

I MADE A BLOG TAG ABOUT MUSIC!!!!! TA-DAAAA!!!!!

Somehow, I’ve had this blog for almost three years and I’ve done ten thousand blog tags and yet, I’ve never created a blog tag of my own. I mean, I’ve wanted to for awhile, but I just wasn’t sure what kind of tag it should be and what kind of questions I should ask, so I just held off. That is, UNTIL NOW!!!!

When I wrote up the most recent edition of the Me and Music Tag, there were a bunch of songs that I wanted to fit in the post but I couldn’t because they fit into more specific categories than that tag allowed for. SO, I decided to create my own tag of specific categories. Because no one said I couldn’t!

So, my fellow music lovers, grab your headphones, crank the volume up, and enjoy this tag I hath created!!

Rules:

1. Tag the creator (Mia @ Windows) so she can see your answers and listen along as she reads.

2. Choose which prompts you want to answer (or answer all of them LOL).

3. You are more than welcome to use the graphics if that strikes your fancy.

4. Name 2-7 songs for each prompt (or don’t, idc).

5. Tag as many bloggers as you please (and don’t forget to thank the person who tagged you! . . . . assuming you didn’t steal the tag. . . .).

6. Have fun (and crank it up)!!

My Answers:

Eustace Scrubb || Sarah Sparks
for the first in my life // i’m not living a lie // and i hate who i am // i’ve become what i feared // and i cried dragon tears // just to prove i’m a man

This song is about that scene from Narnia when Eustace turns into a dragon and it is so weirdly personal and beautiful and the way Sarah sings it is just so gorgeous. And the way the ending swells with her vocals is just *chef’s kiss*

We Trust || His Story the Musical
we trust that You’re here // we trust that You’re holding us // through every storm, You’re making us brave // You call the lame to walk on the waves

This song makes me BAWL. Which is not a difficult achievement BUT STILL–

Little Lion Man || Richmond Octaves
CONTENT WARNING: Language
but it was not your fault but mine // and it was your heart on the line // i really messed it up this time // didn’t i, my dear?

This is an a capella cover of a song I liked but I didn’t know that when I added it to my playlist LOL I was just listening to my music and all of a sudden, this a capella song came on and I was like “Uhhh what” but it’s pretty good so I let it stay. I like it better than the original, actually.

Love Me When I Don’t || Pentatonix
when i’m too hard on myself // i don’t ask for help // when i’m not okay // i push you away // but you pull me close // ’cause you always know // how to love me when i don’t

The way their voices blend is just so perfect. I love a capella music. Like, oh my gosh it’s too good.

Symphony || Imagine Dragons
i’m the chords and you’re the melody // this life is one big symphony

Wholesome. Peppy. Musical metaphors. What more could you want from a song?

Masked Heroes || Vexento

This song was my CHILDHOOD. Now that I’m older I realize it’s not as super fantastic as I thought it was in middle school, but it’s still a good song and it makes me happy. Maybe the good vibes is just my nostalgia talking. . . .

Brother || Madds Buckley
oh, brother of mine // it’s been a long, long time // since i’ve seen my face in your eyes

I don’t even know where I heard this song. Spotify just keeps playing random songs even though I have that feature turned off so who KNOWS where it came from. I love the hopeful and wholesome feeling the song has even if the lyrics are a little depressing LOL. Takes me back to simpler times.

This Isn’t The End || Owl City
CONTENT WARNING: Mentions of suicide and panic attacks
an eight-year-old had a panic attack // ’cause the father she loved left and never looked back // no longer the hero she counted on // he told her loved her and then he was gone

I am DESTROYED I am UNWELL I am NOT OKAY. I’ve always admired Owl City’s ability to tell stories (even if some of them are a little weird) but this one is so heavy and so beautiful and I just love it so much.

Rain (Boldly In the Pretend) (feat. Jazz D’Arcy) || Bluey
summers went by // and we ran from the rain // though we really did think // we’d all stay the same

Bluey songs just have the amazing power to make me BAWL. I’ve never cried so hard listening to a song but me being on the cusp of eighteen just drives this closer to home. I’m too sentimental a person to survive *dies*

ceilings || Lizzy McAlphine
CONTENT WARNING: Innuendos
but it’s not real // and you don’t exist // and i can’t recall the last time i was kissed // it hits me // in the car // and it feels like the end of a movie i’ve seen before

Those imaginary boyfriends. They’ll getcha, I’m telling ya.

Temmie Village || Undertale

Um. . . . Let me explain!

I relate to the Temmies. They are beautiful creatures and I love them. Temmie is my spirit animal.

Peace of Mind || Imagine Dragons
i’ve got so much to be happy about // i’m always focused on things that amount to nothing // yeah, i think i’m a little depressed

Sometimes there are just days where nothing feels right or good. I have those days way more than I would like. Don’tcha just love burnout??

Family Line || Conan Gray
CONTENT WARNING: Abuse
i was a kid but i wasn’t clueless // someone who loves you wouldn’t do this

I have no idea if this song is a true story from Conan’s childhood or if it’s just a story, but either way, it’s so sad and heartfelt and beautiful. It’s just so raw and honest and I love it.

BITE OF 87 (feat. Abdul Cisse) || CG5
CONTENT WARNING: A dead child
you’ve gotta trust me now // everybody’s so obsessive // over how or when or where it happened // why don’t you hear me out?

I don’t know the first thing about Five Nights at Freddy’s and frankly, I’m not interested in learning, but hey, the song is fun! I’ve always been intrigued by beatboxers.

I have SO many of these. . . .

Dance Mode || Bluey

Okay, first of all, the episode is just so perfectly wholesome and beautiful and AH but the song is the perfect dance mix. This is exactly the kind of music that middle school me listened to almost exclusively and clearly I have not lost that taste LOL

Sticky Gecko || Bluey

This song makes me think of children and blissful childhood ignorance. And as the song goes on and it gets quieter and slower, it reminds me of growing up and realizing just what you had.

Wait, I’m actually just now realizing how much storytelling this song does. It starts out simplistic, like a baby, then gradually adds more instruments and speed as the baby grows and learns. Life gets faster and faster until it suddenly stops as the child realizes he isn’t a child anymore.

*blink blink*

I think I read into music too much.

Rainbow || Bluey

I’M IN TEARS JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS SONG *sobs* I don’t know what it is but it just perfectly captures any kind of longing, nostalgia, the idea of a perfect childhood. . . . Y’all know what I’m talking about? Maybe I’m just crazy. My siblings think I’m crazy. I’m probably just crazy.

Test Drive || How to Train Your Dragon

I’ve never seen any of the HtTYD movies and I don’t really intend to, but I LOVE this song. It’s so gorgeous and triumphant and it can be applied to more things than just learning to ride a dragon.

National Treasure Score || Trevor Rabin

I tried to pick just one song but I couldn’t because the whole score is AMAZING. I love National Treasure and the score is a huge part of that love. My top three songs are the main theme (National Treasure Suite), Arrival at National Archives, and The Chase (particularly the part at 2:30). But seriously, it’s all good.

Undertale and Deltarune OST || Toby Fox

I’m such a huge fan of Toby Fox’s work, especially his music. The way he blends chiptune and traditional orchestra is so lovely and each of the songs perfectly matches the characters or moments they portray. My favorite songs from Undertale are Dating Fight!, Thundersnail, and Your Best Nightmare, and my favorite songs from Deltarune are Lancer, Checker Dance, Scarlet Forest, Attack of the Killer Queen, and any of Spamton’s songs, but especially BIG SHOT.

Minecraft Vs Lego (feat. The Stupendium) || Dan Bull
i can fell a forest with my fists, what can you do? // i’ll build an obsidian tomb and lock you up in there // mind you, i could do that with some tupperware

A rap battle between Steve and the Lego Man is such an obscure idea but the execution on this one was on-point. I’m a sucker for a good rap battle and some of the roasts in this one are so funny.

Double Trouble || Grymm
i could go with double trouble // i could live a double life

Bad Boys || Grymm
and we’re good at heart // but by choice // we’re the bad boys!

I’m really starting to love Grymm’s style. He writes songs about MCYTs but they’re well-produced and the lyrics are usually pretty good. Double Trouble has been my favorite Grymm song since it came out, but Bad Boys is a close second.

Murder Hornet || CG5
CONTENT WARNING: Murder, death, suffering, etc.
murder hornet! || annihilating every living thing // murder hornet! // end your family line with just one little sting

It’s a song. . . . about the murder hornets. . . . of 2020. . . . y’know, that everybody was scared of?

The River || CG5
oh no, that poor poor man // hope that if he dies, he lives again // i’m not saying that he will die // but it looks like he’ll probably die

I don’t even have anything to say about this one.

Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince || Taylor Swift
it’s you and me // that’s my whole world // they whisper in the hallway “she’s a bad bad girl”

When I first heard this song, I was disappointed that I didn’t write it first. Honestly, the piano in the chorus sounds like the sort of thing that I would write. But I love the song anyway! Besides, plagiarizing Taylor Swift would not be a good look.

epiphany || Taylor Swift
something med school did not cover // someone’s daughter, someone’s mother // holds your hand through plastic now // “doc, i think she’s crashing out // and some things you just can’t speak about

The freaking DEATH GRIP this song had on me when I first heard it. Boy, do I wish I could write heart-rending songs like this one *dies*

Pine Barrens || Jakey
CONTENT WARNING: Language, implied abuse, murder
if you took my place // would you change me ways? // would you change my name? // would you change my face?

Okay well, I don’t love the lyrics, but the first half of the chorus is just *chef’s kiss* I love me some syncopation!

Peaches || The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Princess Peach // at the end of the line // i’ll make you mine

Sorry guys, but it really isn’t that good of a song. I’ve listened to it four or five times and I understand it less and less each time I listen. But my siblings love it, so. . . . good on them, I guess.

Literally Any Nintendo OST

My brother loves video game soundtracks but I’m not a huge fan. (Well, besides Undertale and Deltarune.) To each their own, and my own is not Nintendo soundtracks.

fanfiction || Me (LOL)
i took the liberty of pretending that you love me // and then i wrote it down // and it’s my favorite fanfiction

I thought this line was cute. It’s a callback to middle school days. I was never one to write stories about real people, but I sure did dream up a bunch of stories LOL I’m actually really proud of this song. It’s not finished yet, but it has a lot of fun storytelling and I really like the tune and lyrics. (Don’t worry — if I ever finish it and put it on Spotify, y’all will be the first to know!)

fictional || Me (gasp! I know her!)
gently, slowly, no one’s even noticing me // toying with what they thought they knew

This song is. . . . bad and will probably never be anything other than a draft, but I think I’m going to have to use this line in another song because it has a million possibilities.

to be (overture) || Me (I swear I’ve heard that name before. . . .)
i didn’t come to school to fall for a boy // but why do my emotions love to treat me like their toy?

Okay, I know this is clichรฉ, but don’t worry, it is not finished yet (thank goodness)! I just thought the second half was cool.

I did say this is the Suspiciously Specific Songs Tag, didn’t I? ((((:

Nice Guys || Ryan Higa
CONTENT WARNING: Mild language
nice guys finish last // that’s why i’ll treat you like trash, it’s // not what i really wanna do

I was barely even cognizant when Ryan Higa was popular, but I found this song last year and it’s a bop. The 2010s were a terrifying time.

It’s Nice to Have a Friend || Taylor Swift
something gave you the nerve // to touch my hand // it’s nice to have a friend

Wholesome. I also like how stripped down the song is. Sometimes the simpler songs are nice.

Bejeweled || Taylor Swift
diamonds in my eyes // i polish up real // i polish up real nice

*clears throat*

iykyk

The Green and the Town || AJR
a year from now, we won’t be pretty // a year from now, we won’t be young // but we will live among the giants // before the giants learn to run

I used to listen to this song over and over again just for the breakdown after the chorus. I’ll never get tired of it.

Don’t Throw Out My Legos || AJR
it’s cold out there, you’re standing there // you’re trying to face your greatest fear // you’re shivering, you’re trembling // it’s warm in here, so come back in

The lyrics are just AHHH but the INTRO I CAN’T HELP

Run Boy Run || Woodkid
run boy run! // running is a victory // run boy run! // beauty lies behind the hills

I have no idea what this song is about but that bit towards the end is energizing. I see why it’s popular on TikTok.

All of the Girls You Loved Before || Taylor Swift
a heart is drawn around your name // in someone’s handwriting, not mine

This song makes me think of Cress and Thorne from the Lunar Chronicles. I love them so much. They are #goals.

The Great War || Taylor Swift
always remember // tears on the letter // i vowed not to cry anymore // if we survived the Great War

This song reminds of a Minecraft fanfiction my friend wrote that still lives in my head rent-free and it’s depressing and beautiful at the same time. *sigh* Those were simpler times.

Never Seen Anything (Quite Like You) || The Script
i’m blessed as a man to have seen you in white // but i’ve never seen anything quite like you tonight

This is on my list of Songs to Have At My Wedding, along with Perfect by Ed Sheeran and Band of Gold by the Gray Havens. It’s just so. . . . sweet.

Monster || Imagine Dragons
if i told you what i was // would you turn your back on me? // and if i seem dangerous // would you be scared?

. . . . I may or may not be one of those girls that’s always attracted to the villains. . . . I’ll never tell!

reputation || Taylor Swift

I love anything with a newspaper-y aesthetic and I also love things in black and white. This is my favorite Taylor Swift album cover by far.

All Things Bright and Beautiful || Owl City

There’s something weirdly. . . . meta about this cover. Maybe it’s the way the landscape looks fake or the way it just ends but idk. It doesn’t have anything to do with the album, but I love how this one picture can paint such an interesting narrative.

The Moth and the Lamp || CG5
your shine is gone, i’m in the gray // will darkness be my new every day?

This is one of the dumbest songs I’ve ever heard but it’s just so catchy!

I Want It That Way || Backstreet Boys
tell me why // ain’t nothin’ but a heartache // tell me why // ain’t nothin’ but a mistake

I have no explanation, only an apology.

Cowgirls || Morgan Wallen
CONTENT WARNING: Innuendos
love you like a mustang // one hand on them giddy-up reins

WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN WHAT DOES IT MEAN I DON’T UNDERSTAND COUNTRY MUSIC AT ALL WHAT DOES IT MEANNNNN

Belly of the Whale || Newsboys
in the belly of the whale // in an underwater jail // it’s a tight squeeze // it’s a gettin’ to me but it’s roomier than the tail

I was raised on VeggieTales and Newsboys, so obviously a VeggieTales x Newsboys song is going to be playing 24/7 in my childhood memories. It’s inevitable.

Ooh Ahh (My Life Be Like) (feat. TobyMac) || Grits
my heartfelt desire to be more like You // tryin’ not to quench Your fire with the things i do

When I was younger, I just liked it because of the beat, but the older I get, the more I appreciate the lyrics.

Keys to the Kingdom || Group 1 Crew
so many promises You gave // and we just turned and walked away // but now i see the price You paid // was enough for us to live victorious

Newsboys, TobyMac, and Group 1 Crew. That’s what I was raised on. Also some Lecrae. My dad has a great taste in music.

putting a spin on ride || Egg
metaphorically, i’m the man // but literally? i don’t know what i’d do

Egg’s voice is so beautiful and this is the only one of her covers I’ve heard, but it is heavenly. I love Twenty-One Pilots and her vocals just add so much.

the author || Luz
are you afraid of living life in bold? // how else do you plan on emphasizing what they wrote?

Luz’s voice is just. . . . calming. The vibes are just right.

Okay, I’m going to stop now because WordPress is lagging like crazy and I do not want to crash it. I’m not going to tag anyone, but if you want to do this tag, go right ahead! And make sure you link back to this post so I can see your answers!

Also, I made a playlist with all of the songs I mentioned! Enjoy!

Okay bye!

PrePOSterous. I’m embarrassed to call you my friends.

Just kidding!

April 23 is the day that I post the Me and Music Tag! I do this tag every year because music. And also time. Who KNOWS how my music tastes have changed??!

(Me. I do. They haven’t changed much.)

BUT REGARDLESS, I’m writing this post because I want to. So enjoy!

Rules:

1. Link back to the original post so Sophie can see your answers and listen to the tunes. โœ”

2. For every prompt you choose to do, name 1-5 songs. (I’M GONNA DO IT THIS YEAR GUYS. I CAN DO IT. I BELIEVE IN ME!!!)

3. Have fun and play your music LOUD! โœ”

Midnights || Taylor Swift

Welp. Starting off strong, I see. I just wrote a post not too long ago where I raved about this album, so if you want to see my opinions on it, go read that post.

folklore || Taylor Swift

Is this whole section going to be Taylor Swift? Probably. But this album is just. . . . so well done. I’m jealous. I want to write music like that.

Mercury: Act 2 || Imagine Dragons

Okay good. Something that isn’t Taylor Swift. I like Imagine Dragons. I’m definitely not a superfan or anything, but their music is pretty good. I think this album is the only one I really liked the entirety of.

Hello || OMFG

This song perfectly sums up my childhood because I was in middle school when it was popular on Roblox. That is the single, cringiest sentence I have ever written in my entire life. Moving on.

Alpha || C418

I once saw someone describe Minecraft music as feeling like you can’t go back home because you know home isn’t there anymore. And honestly. . . . accurate.

Africa || Toto
I seek to cure what’s deep inside // Frightened of this thing that I’ve become

I’ll never forget the first time I heard this song. My dad turned on the music video and I judged him hardcore the whole time. But now it always plays at work so my homey memories might fade LOL

Anti-Hero || Taylor Swift
I have this dream my daughter in-law kills me for the money // She thinks I left them in the will

Content Warning: Language

Wow, is this song still in the charts?? Midnights came out months ago!

ceilings || Lizzy McAlphine
But it’s not real // And you don’t exist // And I can’t recall the last time I was kissed

Content Warning: Innuendos

Sadz. But pretty.

Those were the only two songs I recognized on the Hot 100 chart. Usually I know more but nope.

sleeping in the nether || CG5
But I’m having a good time // Getting stupider, stupider, dur dur // But no matter how dumb I get // Just know that // You won’t catch me sleeping in the nether

Every single one of CG5’s songs get my toes tapping. This one is a bop and a mood and a meme all smashed into one. Also I appreciate every single meme he stuffed into this song, especially the Jason Derulo bit

Bring on the Pirates || The Fold
LIKE A PIRATE! // You gotta muddle your speech // LIKE A PIRATE! // Keep your motives out of reach

I don’t like hard rock. That being said, The Fold’s Ninjago songs are fantastic. Especially this one. The syncoPATion thoughhhh

DIP || Connor Price
Pockets so deep its a trenchcoat // European bread I got French toast

I’m SORRY??? Mr. Price????? There are a lot of Connor’s songs that get my toes tapping but this one especially. The bass is bonkers.

The Moth and the Lamp || CG5
She wรคs my lรคmp, he wรคs my mรธth // But we were nรธthing mรธre thรคn lรธst // Yรธu were the light รธf my life // Yรธu mรคde me feel like I cรธuld fly

There are going to be a lot of CG5 songs in this post. This one is a meme and the silliest one at that but it’s so catchy???? I keep catching myself singing it unironically and I’m like “Mia no” but I never listen to myself.

Open Arms || EPIC: The Musical
This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms // I see in your face, there is so much guilt inside your heart // So why not replace it and light up the world // Here’s how to start: // Greet the world with open arms

I cannot WAIT for this musical to come out onstage, but until then, I shall vibe to this song. The ultimate optimist’s theme.

Brand New Sound || Barbie: Rock ‘n Royals
Let’s make the world say, “Wow” // And we’re gonna make ’em hear us

Say what you want, but the soundtrack of this movie is really good. The story. . . . meh. But the soundtrack? *chef’s kiss*

How Bad Can I Be? || The Lorax
How ba-a-a-ad can I be? // I’m just building an economy // How ba-a-a-ad can I be? // Just look at me pettin’ this puppy

I haven’t seen this movie in years, but this song lives rent-free in my head. ‘Tis a bop????

21 Guns || American Idiot
Your faith walks on broken glass // And the hangover doesn’t pass // Nothing’s ever built to last // You’re in ruins

Content Warning: Death

Bet you didn’t know Green Day wrote a musical! I didn’t either. But I like it! It doesn’t run anymore but I kinda wish it did. The premise is interesting.

Test Drive || How to Train Your Dragon

Have I seen the movie? No. Do I know anything about the franchise? No. Is this song inspiring and beautiful? Yes. Yes it is.

Masked Heroes || Vexento

I heard this song once, fell in love, didn’t listen to it for years, accidentally discovered it IN THE SAME PLACE, looked it up, and now I never get tired of it. I’ve only heard a couple of Vexento’s songs, but they’re really good. I should listen to more. . . .

The Weekend Whip: Anacondrai Remix || The Fold
Jump up, kick back, whip around and spin // Ninja, ninja, come on, come on, we’re gonna do it again

I will never forget how excited I was to watch season 4 of Ninjago and it absolutely SLAPPED. The theme song, the characters, the story, the plot, those are the same thing, the characters, wait no I already said that, the villains. Just. . . . a masterpiece. Ninjago kinda went downhill from there.

City || Cheetah Mobile

Ah, if there ever is a way to describe my childhood, it’s how obsessed I was with the songs in the Rolling Sky app. That was my main reason for even playing, just to hear the songs. This one was probably my favorite.

Uh-oh. Choosing for this one is going to be hard.

The Legend of Siren Head || CG5
I’m not crazy, just a little on edge // I’ve been seeing something // In the trees and the hedges

Content Warning: Murder

A lullaby? Interesting choice for a song about a demon, but pop off I guess.

what. just came out of my mouth.

MEAN! || Madeline the Person
One thing I like about me is that I’m nothing like you and I never will be // Someone who loves how it sounds when they speak, you’re not telling the truth, no, you’re just being mean

I’m upset this song isn’t more popular. It’s catchy and relatable and the vocals are so pretty!

Best Friend Breakup || Lauren Spencer Smith
Didn’t think it’d hurt this much // When best friends break up

MA’AM????? I’M SORRY??????? I BEG YOUR PARDON????????????

Hits Different || Taylor Swift
Catastrophic blues // Movin’ on was always easy for me to do // It hits different

Content Warning: Language

I’ll tell you what hits different! This song!!

why did i do it again do i not know better

willow || Taylor Swift
As if you were a mythical thing // Like you were a trophy or a champion ring // And there was one prize I’d cheat to win

This song plays at work and I always sing along. I once started singing while I was standing next to a lady and she turned around like “is there surround sound in this store???” It was funny LOL

Stick to the Status Quo || High School Musical (2006)
If you wanna be cool // Follow one simple rule // Don’t mess with the flow, no no // Stick to the status quo

Is that legal? Can I do that? I mean, it was 2006 when this came out. Am I allowed to do this??

Istanbul (Not Constantinople) || Jimmy Kennedy and Nat Simon (1953)
Every gal in Constantinople // Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople // So if you’ve a date in Constantinople // She’ll be waiting in Istanbul

This is my sister’s โœจfavorite songโœจ and don’t let her tell you otherwise because it definitely is.

Jiggle Jiggle || Duke & Jones x Louis Theroux
I got a knack to relax in my mind // Sipping some red, red wine

Content Warning: Innuendos

Back in June, when our youth group made the 24-hour round trip to the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter, this was our theme song, I guess you could say. Me, my best friend, and one of the middle school boys just kept singing it at random intervals and it was fantastic. Everyone else got annoyed with it, but this was our bop.

Catchy Song || The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part
There’s nothin’ that you can do // There’s nothin’ that you can say // This song is stuck on replay // You better sing it every single day

No matter what I do, this song, contrary to popular opinion, does NOT get stuck in my head. Ever. And now that I said that, it will probably get stuck in my head. Shucks.

Ill-M-I || TobyMac
Got succulent flavor, the uprisen Savior // Manifestin’ thru these mics, blastin’ out your graveyard

I will never forget the day I Googled what the lyrics meant and it pulled up the FAQ on Toby’s website and thAT QUESTION WAS THERE AND IT HAD A WHOLE OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM TOBY ABOUT WHAT THE SONG MEANS AND THAT IT’S A COVER AND I DIED LAUGHING. THE FACT HE HAD TO PUT THAT IN THE FAQ WILL NEVER NOT BE FUNNY TO ME.

[Future Mia here. IT’S STILL THERE GUYS. LOOK.]

Been a Minute || Scott Cramer
I bet in every town in heaven // Gas stations close at seven // Try your best to not roll through // The one stop sign intersection // I spent like eighteen years // Just tryna get away from here // But roots run deep and I can’t help it // Now my only thought is // What am I really going to miss

I don’t really like Scott’s music (love his videos though), but this song is just. I’m moving away soon and it just. It hits different. And not like the Taylor Swift song.

OH MY GOSH MIA STOP MAKING THAT JOKE

Bigger Than the Whole Sky || Taylor Swift
And I’ve got a lot to pine about // I’ve got a lot to live without // I’m never gonna meet // What could’ve been, would’ve been // What should’ve been you

You cannot tell me this song is about a breakup. It’s wayyy too sad to be about a breakup.

epiphany || Taylor Swift
Something med school did not cover // Someone’s daughter, someone’s mother // Holds your hand through plastic now // “Doc, I think she’s crashing out” // And some things you just can’t speak about

Pretty. But sadz.

the last great american dynasty || Taylor Swift
They say she was seen on occasion // Pacing the rocks, staring out at the midnight sea // And in a feud with her neighbor // She stole his dog and dyed it key lime green

The bridge is the most immaculate thing I have heard in my life.

Sharks || Imagine Dragons
You think you’re better than them // Better than them // You think they’re really your friends // Really your friends // But when it comes to the end // To the end // You’re just the same as them // Same as them

I love a good secret agent montage. I don’t know why. I just do.

Duh Duh Duh Dum || B2TSM
Hear, my last premiere, full of despair // No need to shed a tear // Gone is my Juliet, I won’t forget the night that I // Hit you with that duh duh duh dum

Content Warning: Language

TwoSet Violin managed to slip past my K-Pop defenses and now I’m upset. BUT this song is really good. And I was greatly surprised by Eddy and Brett’s singing and acting abilities.

Lonely King || CG5
The role of the king is a lonely one to play // But cards in the ring have been dealt in the wrong way // The role of the king is a lonely one to play // No matter the lives of the people before me // All that I seek is the path to glory

Content Warning: Blood

When I first discovered this song, I had no idea what was happening in the music video, but I enjoyed it all the same. I have since furthered my DreamSMP lore knowledge and I think I mostly understand?? But that’s not important. What’s important is how shockingly good this song is???? This is not CG5’s normal style but it is SO good.

(Honestly, I could have chosen any of CG5’s music videos because they’re all amazing, but this one is my favorite.)

Don’t Throw Out My Legos || AJR
Saved up enough to rent an apartment // But far away from mom and dad // My Christmas card looks like a mugshot // ‘Cause suddenly I’m getting sad

Lads. Stop it. Bad. Bad lads. I don’t want to be SAD ABOUT LEAVING THE NEST. I’M ALREADY SAD ENOUGH.

When He Sees Me || Waitress
He might sit too close // Or call the waiter by his first name // Or eat Oreos // But eat the cookie before the cream

I’m with Dawn. If a man eats the cookie before the cream, he can’t be trusted.

Cabinet Man || Lemon Demon
I’m happy for years and years // And, only eating the occasional maintenance man // Only driving a few kids to madness // Maybe they were predisposed to madness, who knows?

ARE ALL OF LEMON DEMON’S SONGS THE EMBODIMENT OF CHAOS????? I’ve only heard two but I’m really just. . . . I don’t know what to. . . . why are his songs the way that they are???? Someone please tell me they’re not all the definition of pure, unadulterated chaos.

Anyway, I love the storytelling in this song. It’d make a cool short story.

My Ordinary Life || The Living Tombstone
They tell me I’m so humble, I say, “I’m turning red” // They let me lie to them and don’t feel like they’ve been misled

Don’t judge me, my life is my own.

Vigilante || Taylor Swift
I don’t start it, but I can tell you how it ends // Don’t get sad, get even

Every. Time. I listen to this song. I have the sudden, inexplicable urge to strut down the runway while glaring into the camera and twirling a knife between my fingers. It just has that Effect.

Take Yours || Matthew Mole
So take these words // And make them right // So one day you and I // Will write our names // In the sky // We’ll confide

THIS SONG JUST CAME ON SHUFFLE RIGHT AS I TYPED THAT OUT AHHHAHAHA *dies* I love this song so much. The ukulele and the unorthodox beat and the tune just aaaahhhhhh I love it.

Electric Love || Bร˜RNS
Baby, you’re like lightning in a bottle // I can’t let you go now that I got it // And all I need is to be struck // By your electric love

This one’s cute. And I love the pre-chorus.

Skeleton || Set It Off
I project pain with the frame that I maintain // Pulling on chains, wanna break what I can’t change // All that rage put away in my ribcage // Comes out in stages, how could I stage this?

Content Warning: Language

I don’t typically listen to songs like this, bland and predictable in the chord progression category, but I actually really really like this one. And the rap verse is fun.

Cupid’s Chokehold || Gym Class Heroes
We even got a secret handshake // And she loves the music that my band makes // I know I’m young but if I had to choose her or the sun // I’d be one nocturnal son of a gun

This song is so freaking cute. Every time I listen to it, I melt into a little puddle of marshmallow fluff and sprinkles and glitter.

haHA!! I have a whole playlist for this!!

Father’s Day || CG5
Do you ever wonder why // You feel so traumatized? // Clock, notepad, butterfly // Dreams, love and time // Don’t hug me, I’m scared // Pulled the plug and got out of there // Walked away // From the pain of Father’s Day

Content Warning: *laughs maniacally* Just don’t look up Don’t Hug Me, I’m Scared, and listen to this song without context. You’ll thank me for that.

Don’t Hug Me, I’m Scared is an absolutely horrifying franchise and I wouldn’t care anything about it if it weren’t for Film Theory informing me on the nightmare that is the lore. But this song is so. . . . so. . . . well-written, I can’t help but love it, even if it fills me with a sense of dread from the underlying themes.

Children of the Machine || CG5
To create this finest design // You need a magic darker than mine // And a kiss from the angels // Casting demons down the bottom line

Content Warning: Mentions of demons and lust

I LOVE Bendy and the Ink Machine, and I was so excited when the sequel came out. And then AND THEN, I heard this song and I was like “uh” and then I made my sister listen to it, and she usually hates my music tastes but even she was like “that’s good”. Please, I’m literally begging you, if you like tight harmonies even the tiniest bit, LISTEN TO THIS SONG.

Give a Little || LeGrand x CG5
Be kind, be patient, be hard to please // It seems contradicting, but do it honestly // Just give a little, give a little, give a little, give a little // Until you disintegrate

All of these songs are going to have CG5 somewhere XD I love this song though. Especially the sax solos.

Two More Minutes || Jaymes Young
I don’t want nobody else // You lift me off of the ground // I want you all to myself // Please don’t ever let me down

Content Warning: Innuendos

Oh look, a song that doesn’t have CG5. I don’t even remember where I heard this song. I think it was the end card of a YouTube video? Either way, I really like it. Also, the lyrics really remind me of Cress and Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles. I ship them so much ๐Ÿฅฐ

Run Boy Run || Woodkid
Run boy run // This race is a prophecy // Run boy run // And disappear in the trees

Okay, this isn’t a “recent” fave, but I love it SO MUCH. I see why it became a TikTok trend. It’s AMAZING.

Pardon Me || He Is We
Butterflies in the skies, they just fly on by // Yeah, they’re making me sick

Ma’am???? The harmonies??????? The piano??????????? I was not expecting to like this one because it randomly started playing after I listened to a different He Is We song (that I didn’t like) and the piano piqued my interest so I listened to the whole thing. It’s in my favorite song playlist now.

Scatterbrained || Lemon Demon
Now won’t you tell me why I feel so scatterbrained? // The moon still hasn’t come back since it’s waned // It can’t be what I’m looking for // I’m thinking but I don’t know

That uh, piano solo in the middle of the song is uh. . . . it’s uh. . . . how you say. . . . โœจspecialโœจ. I was looking up a different song by the title of Scatterbrained and this song popped up, and I was like, “Oh, I like Cabinet Man, so maybe I’ll like this one!” It. . . . caught me off guard, to say the least. I wish it was on Spotify so I could add it to my chaos playlist, but alas, it is not.

And thus ends this year’s edition of the Me and Music Tag. I kind of want to create a music tag of my own because there were a lot of songs I wanted to add that just wouldn’t fit in any of the categories. So maybe I’ll do that sometime.

Anyway, I hope y’all enjoyed, and I’d love to hear some of your favorites in the comments! I’m always looking for new music.

Toodles!

Reacting to Midnights ~ In Which I’m Like Four Months Late But It’s Just Too Good to Not

Um.

I have become a Swiftie on accident.

It was never my intention to be more than a casual Taylor Swift fan. I listened to a couple songs and I enjoyed a couple songs and then Liesl was like “You should listen to evermore and folklore because they’re pure poetry” and I was like “Whatever you say queen” and then I listened to them and I was like “Holy crap” and then I listened to Midnights of my own volition and I haven’t been able to stop listening to it since. And I have a lot of opinions about it so I’m writing a post and making you all read my opinions. Well, you’re more than welcome to click away BUT DON’T. EVERY WORD THAT COMES OUT OF MY MOUTH IS IMPORTANT.

*serious nod*

*sighhhhh* I’ll never forgive you for this, Liesl.

Anyways, basically how I did this is I looked up the Midnights Wikipedia page and then searched each song up on YouTube alongside the word “clean” and if there was a clean version, that popped up and, if not, I listened to the normal version. So I avoided swear words mostly. (Also the word sexy but I wasn’t anticipating that LOL) Idk if anyone cares but yeah.

Lavender Haze

I’ve been under scrutiny // You handle it beautifully

This one’s fun. I like the word play. Definitely not my favorite and it probably won’t end up in my playlist but it is catchy. And a pretty good start to the album.

Maroon

And I lost you // The one I was dancin’ with // In New York, no shoes // Looked up at the sky and it was maroon

The harmonies are gorgeous. I love this one. And the story it tells is beautiful.

Anti-Hero

I’ll stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror // It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero

Hmm. This one is painfully relatable. It’s been memed to death on TikTok but I still really like it. I usually don’t like the songs that I hear over and over and OVER on the internet but this one is still good. And it has a lot of backstory and creativity.

Snow on the Beach

Life is emotionally abusive // And time can’t stop me quite like you did // And my flight was awful, thanks for asking // I’m unglued, thanks to you

This one gives me some serious Christmas song vibes. Maybe that’s what she was going for LOL Also where is Lana Del Ray? I can’t hear her on the track at all. The chorus is lovely, though, and the harmonies are heavenly.

You’re on Your Own, Kid

There were pages turned with the bridges burned // Everything you lose is a step you take // So make the friendship bracelets // Take the moment and taste it // You’ve got no reason to be afraid

The lyrics are so angelic. I love this one. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the title but it’s definitely not what I had in mind.

Midnight Rain

My boy was a montage // A slow-motion, love potion

This one is. . . . weird. I don’t hate it, it’s just weird. Also I feel bad for that poor boy in the song.

Question…?

‘Cause Iโ€…don’t remember who I was // Before youโ€…painted all my nights // A color I’ve searched for since

This sounds like the kind of song I would write and be super proud of. The beat is great, although good grief they had to censor a lot. Not sure how I feel about the lyrics. I think I have mixed feelings about this one.

Vigilante

Sometimes I wonder which one will be your last lie // They say looks can kill and I might try

I like listening to music with painful amounts of bass. This one fits the bill. This is the song you listen to when you’re about to slash your ex’s tires. Also, the line “I don’t start it but I can tell you how it ends” makes me think of Marie from The Aristocats.

I do have an issue with the lyrics. She should have said “your last life” instead “your last lie”. It would have tied the next line in a little better. But anyways.

Bejeweled

Familiarity breeds contempt // Don’t put me in the basement // When I want the penthouse of your heart

This one’s fun! Also the “NICE!!” sounds like a video game soundbite LOL

Labyrinth

I thought the plane was goin’ down // How’d you turn it right around?

Why. Is the synth. So weird? It sounds like there’s a cat laying on the keys. I don’t know if I can get behind this one.

Karma

Sweet like honey, karma is a cat // Purring in my lap ’cause it loves me

I like all the metaphors she has in the chorus, although, when I first heard “karma is a cat,” I imagined karma sarcastically knocking things off of Taylor’s shelves. Or rather, Taylor’s ex’s shelves. Maybe karma is the cat laying on the synthesizer in the previous song. *shrug* You never know.

Sweet Nothing

They said the end is coming // Everyone’s up to something // I find myself running home to your sweet nothings

This one feels so different from all the other songs. Almost. . . . out of place. Maybe it’s because it’s towards the end of the album. Songs near the end always feel boring and different to me. Not sure why.

Mastermind

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail // Strategy sets the scene for the tale

Kind of a repeating theme in Taylor’s songs and the beginning sounds like the music for a big tech commercial. But the lyric video is beautiful.

The Great War

My hand was the one you reached for // All throughout the Great War

I. LOVE. This one. The story, the beat, the melody. It’s GORGEOUS. I’ve been listening to it non-stop. And it reminds me of my OTP hehe.

Bigger Than the Whole Sky

I’m never gonna meet // What could’ve been, would’ve been // What should’ve been you

This one makes me sad. I heard someone say that it’s about a miscarriage and I like that better than a breakup. And it makes more sense. But whether it’s about a miscarriage or what, I think this song makes more sense in the context of death.

Paris

I’m so in love that I might stop breathing // Drew a map on your bedroom ceiling

The vibes are immaculate. *nodnod*

High Infidelity

You know there’s many different ways that you can kill the one you love // The slowest way is never loving them enough

I like this one. Not enough to put it in my playlist but it is still very nice. And I really like that little prechorus//bridge thing. It’s quite lovely.

Glitch

It must be counterfeit // I think there’s been a glitch

Not sure how I feel about this one. It’s kinda like Midnight Rain. Not as weird, but I’m just as unsure. It is a mood though.

Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve

Living for the thrill of hitting you where it hurts // Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first

I love this one too. It might beat out The Great War for my favorite song. It’s so beautiful. And so sad. I can almost feel her pain.

Dear Reader

No one sees when you lose // When you’re playing solitaire

The autotune is funky but I quite like the lyric video. Although, half the time, I have no idea what she’s talking about.

Hits Different

I heard your key turn in the door down the hallway // Is that your key in the door? // Is it okay? Is it you? // Or have they come to take me away?

This song is what hits different. *slaps knee*

That was

That was a terrible joke I’m sorry.

It is a really catchy song though. I get it stuck in my head all the time.

Andddd that’s all! Overall, I really really like this album. It’s different than the other Taylor Swift songs I’ve heard but it’s a good different. And I’m feeling very inspired right now. I may write an album of my own.

Hmm……

Drama Camp Days Three And Four [June Adventures Part Two] ~ In Which We Have Vocal Intensives And I Name Various Inanimate Objects (As One Does)

Welcome ladies and gents to June Adventures Part Two! I’m sorry it took so long for me to write this. But here we are, part two, full of as many crazy stories as the last part (if not more).

Also, I just wanted to say, I got rubber bands the other day for my braces and WOW are they not fun. How do people survive with these things???? I’m so glad I didn’t get them before Drama Camp happened because WOW that would have been a miserable month.

Okay, I’ll stop rambling now and start the post. Off we go!

Where we last saw our heroes, they’d just received the cast list and were excited about vocal intensives, which would take place Thursday and Friday. Auditions and other such chaos had just taken place and the rest of the week was sure to be just as crazy. Let’s review our characters — and their characters — shall we?

Me: Lady Larken
Chloe: The Minstrel
Anna: Lady-in-Waiting
Eden: Lady-in-Waiting
Emma: Rowena
Jordan: The Jester
Caden: Prince Dauntless the Drab
Emily: Queen Aggravain
Evan: Sir Harry
Lucy: Lady-in-Waiting
Brileigh: Princess #12/Lady-in-Waiting
Ethan: The Wizard
Bryson: The Silent King
Nevaeh: Princess Winnifred
Valerie: Lucille

* For the vast majority of the first day, we only referred to each other by our character names. And of course we celebrated the part each person got, as they were all well-deserved and aptly cast.

Actually, I still refer to most of the cast by their characters’ names. Especially Nevaeh. *waves to Nevaeh*

* Something you will see throughout all of these posts is a ridiculous amount of stuff just. . . . happening. There were a lot of random and surprising mishaps this year for whatever reason. Anyways, something happened that resulted in Cheryl, our director, and Emma, her daughter, being out during the vocal intensives. We were all pretty disappointed, especially because it was the first real day of rehearsals, but hey, the show must go on.

* Because of scheduling conflicts with the theater, half of our rehearsals took place at the church across the street, where Jonathan is the music minister (and where my family used to go to church. It’s pretty nostalgic getting to work in the music room, where I’ve had many a choir rehearsal). Unfortunately, whenever we did scene work, we had to do it on the stage in the sanctuary which is MUCH smaller than the stage at the theater, especially because there’s a piano and choir loft that take up 2/3 of the stage. We made it work though.

* There were a lot of the songs in the show with “All” parts, so we went over several of those with Jonathan. After listening the CD upwards of a thousand times, me and my sisters were quite the experts, but hey, a little practice is always nice. After finishing with us, Jonathan sent us out with Cheryl’s co-director, Jeremy. Jeremy is amazing. We stan Jeremy. Anyways, everyone (including Jeremy) went out to the sanctuary to work on staging, while Nevaeh and Caden stayed back with Jonathan to work on some of their solo parts.

* In the sanctuary, everyone highlighted their scripts (except those who already had the night before aka me) with Jeremy talking about random things in the background. After everyone finished, Jeremy told us to get on the stage. We all picked a random place to stand, and then he made us close our eyes. We took a moment to get into character, and then Jeremy watched us improv a scene. It was fun! I love doing improv! I’m terrible at keeping a straight face, but I love it nonetheless.

The scene we improv-ed took place during a ball thrown by the queen (aka Emily). The ladies-in-waiting stood around and chatted, the king said hello to guests, and the queen stood in a corner and sulked as only the queen could do. This was my first time really getting into character, and I enjoyed getting to know Lady Larken. I walked around the queen’s ball, greeting guests and thanking them for coming. Suddenly, to my Lady Larken’s astonishment, I looked over to see Evan Sir Harry, Larken’s lover, on one knee in front of the queen!

“Harry!” I said, over the din of knights and ladies chatting. “Why are you proposing to the queen?! I thought you loved me!”

Harry jumped to his feet. “Well, I was just, I was, I mean, I was greeting the queen!” he stuttered.

I shook my head. “By proposing to her? She’s MARRIED!”

Harry was visibly embarrassed. “Well, okay, how was I supposed to greet her?”

“By BOWING, maybe??” I retorted, demonstrating by bending at the waist. Harry started to say something, but I called the king over. “Your majesty, did you see what Sir Harry did?” When the king shook his head, I explained, “He was trying to propose to your wife!” The king may not have been able to speak, but you could see the shock on his face. Meanwhile the queen didn’t move, rolling her eyes at us ridiculous peasants.

Jeremy interrupted our lively conversation by introducing a new character to the mix, one who wasn’t even the script: the dastardly SIR CHAMBERLIN *bum bum bum* (played by him, of course). Sir Chamberlin *bum bum bum* had visited the court before. He was from a neighboring kingdom and was not especially liked by our royal court, particularly Harry and Larken. That was because he was seeking Larken’s hand in marriage. Larken had told him a thousand times that she and Harry were a thing, but some men just don’t listen. *insert eyeroll here* He kept flirting with Larken, who very awkwardly try to escape the situation. Harry just watched.

He’s a stand-up guy, that Harry. SMH.

* After lunch, Jonathan did more solo work with Nevaeh and Caden, but I got to stay back with them as I sang a bit with Caden (three words. Literally three words) and had a whole song with Nevaeh. ‘Twas fun. We had some laughs. (But when do we not??)

* After we were done, everyone came back and we did more work on the “All” parts. We made it through 9 out of 13 songs, which is lowkey impressive for the first day. I mean, they’re not called “vocal intensives” for nothin’!

* Random story from one of our breaks: me, Emily, and Nevaeh were just hanging out and chatting, and somehow we got onto the topic of rats (literally don’t even ask), and Emily asked Nevaeh what she would do if a rat ran across the stage while she was singing. Nevaeh made a face and said, “I’ma be out, bro. Bye! Y’all can deal with that by yourselves! Although Winnifred would probably befriend the rat.” (She didn’t exactly look thrilled with the fact that her character would befriend a whole rat.)

“Yeah,” I agreed, “she would probably adopt the rat and call him Monty.”

Emily looked at me. “I admire your ability to just name random inanimate objects.”

I was flattered. “Why thank you!” Of course, both of us overlooked the fact that rats aren’t exactly inanimate, but it’s the thought that counts.

Evan, who was sitting to my left and listening to our conversation, turned off his phone and held it in front of me. “Name my phone.”

I studied it for a moment, then promptly replied, “Bill.” (What? The phone had Bill vibes!)

Evan, if you’re reading this, don’t forget. Your phone is Bill.

Vocal Intensives ~ Day Two

* Day Two was even more intense than day one, if you can believe it! Whereas day one was more focused on group work, Jonathan did a lot more solo work on day two. But, by the end of the day, we had the music more or less down! (Not well, but we had it.) And there’s something satisfying about singing through the whole soundtrack at the end of vocal intensives. ‘Tis nice.

* Jonathan abandoned us had a doctor’s appointment at 10:30, so we spent about an hour in the sanctuary working on โœจ blocking! โœจ It took awhile (probably longer than necessary) but we got the first song and scene mostly staged. I stand in the same spot the whole time, so obviously I wasn’t the one who made the whole process take an hour. Kidding, kidding!

* We took a short break to wait for Jonathan, as he still wasn’t back yet. The door opened and we were all expecting Jonathan to walk in, but instead, Emma came around the corner! We were all very excited to see her, as we’d missed her a lot yesterday and she got several hugs.

* When Jonathan FINALLY came back *pauses to cast a joking glare at Jonathan* we worked on, you guessed it, MUSIC!! Emma caught on fast, despite missing the entire first day. I was proud of her.

* Lunch always had a chaotic air to it (that’s a lie, everything had a chaotic air to it) but boy, was this lunch wild. A bunch of us sat around in the corner and ate and chatted. Bryson stood nearby and ate, and Nevaeh and Emma made fun of his lunch. It was all in good spirit, but I mean, the man brought an entire bag of Fritos Scoops and nothing else. What was he expecting?

In a similar vein, Emma, Nevaeh, and Emily were horrified by the sandwiches me and Chloe were eating. Although, everyone’s horrified when they find out I like this, so. I mean, we were eating a classic (though unpopular) Southern treat! What’s so wrong with banana-mayonnaise sandwiches? They taste almost exactly like banana-peanut butter sandwiches, with a slight tangy flavor depending on how much mayonnaise you use. Don’t bash it. Try it first. Then come back and tell me how you feel about it. *glares at Emma, Nevaeh, and Emily*

In other chaotic lunchtime news, Jordan straight-up took a nap in the sanctuary on a pew (how was that comfortable??) and one of the guys that ended up quitting later on committed a big no-no and left without permission to get a pizza.

When he came back and we found out what he’d done, we had a lot of questions.

“You left??”

“Did you get in trouble?”

“What did Jeremy say?”

“Where did you even go???”

“I went to Domino’s,” he replied.

“Did you eat a whole pizza??” I asked in astonishment.

“Yeah,” he shrugged.

“Was it a large?” Emily asked.

“Yeah,” he shrugged again.

“WHAT??!!” we shrieked.

“WHERE DID IT GO???” Emma asked, gesturing to his skinny figure.

He shrugged yet again. “I dunno.”

So yeah. That was a thing that happened.

* After lunch, me, Nevaeh, and Emma worked with Jonathan on the song we sing together. Not much came out of that besides a lot of unnecessary giggles, a slightly exasperated Jonathan, and Emma’s new nickname for him: Johnny-Than-Than.

In our defense, he 100% signed up for this when he agreed to help Cheryl.

* Evan had abandoned us left for a doctor’s appointment ages ago and he still wasn’t back, so when it was time to work on our duet, it was just me. But, Ethan, Evan’s understudy, came in and sang for him. My part in that song was pretty high, but I love singing high and I have a range that surprises even me so it was a lot of fun! But of course, since I am a glutton for punishment, I requested to sing a note two steps higher than what was written. For anyone who understands such jargon, I went from singing an Eโ™ญ5 to a G5 (translation: high). And I had to hold it out for seven measures with only a quick little breath before (translation: long and difficult). Despite my attempts to torture myself, I still really enjoyed performing that song. ‘Twas fun.

* After Jonathan finished with me, he sent me out to the sanctuary where everyone else was going over lines (except Ethan and Emily, as it was their turn to work with Jonathan). I sat on one of the pews and jumped right in with them! Jeremy was in charge and we know that when Jeremy is in charge, things get a little weird. The voices he did when he read the lines of the actors that were out were just *chef’s kiss* top-notch. That was our first time doing a table-read (well, pew-read) and it was very fun! Nevaeh sat on me a lot.

*moves on without elaborating*

* After the day was over, my voice was quite tired. But it was definitely worth it. I’d say vocal intensives was a success! We had the music down and started work on blocking and lines. Y’know, amidst all the other randomness that happened.

Well, it took ages to come out, but I hope y’all enjoyed part two of the June Adventures series! I certainly enjoyed reminiscing and laughing at all the nonsense we got up to. The next post in this series will be about week two, Drama Camp days five through eight (if I can fit it all into one post. I may need to stretch it out. We’ll see).

I hope y’all enjoyed this post, and I shall see you in the next one!

Toodles!

Drama Camp Days One and Two [June Adventures Part One] ~ In Which I am Reunited With Previous Cast Members, We Have Auditions, and I Win “Zip Zap Zowie”

HIIII GUYS IT’S THE LONG-AWAITED DRAMA CAMP POST!!!!!! Or at least the first one. Who knows how many parts this series is going to have? Probably a lot. I have much stories to share.

Before we begin, I just want to make sure everyone understands exactly what Drama Camp entails. Basically, it’s a four week-long program that takes place every June. It’s hosted by my local theater and kids from all over the city participate. It’s not the kind of camp where you actually stay in cabins or whatever. Every Monday through Thursday (and sometimes Fridays), we drive to the theater and have rehearsal from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, and then we go home. It’s exhausting and demanding but SO much fun. Thankfully, they give us weekends off to recuperate from the previous week’s work before they throw us back in the following week. Drama Camp is available to anyone under 19 that wants to participate. I think the youngest cast member the program has ever had was six years old. We get a variety of people.

Drama Camp was started in 2019 by one of our homeschool co-op friends, and, since she knew that I liked to act, she texted my mom about it. Me and my oldest sister took part in the first show. I had SO much fun and realized how much went into a show that wasn’t a church program (as that was all I’d been in prior to Drama Camp). The next year was 2020 and we all know what happened then. BUT, the next year, three weeks before June, we got an email that Drama Camp was going to happen again! The show was intentionally smaller to avoid risk of sickness which meant a smaller cast, but it was still loads of fun. And this year, we did a full-size show again!

That should be a decent crash course of everything you need to know. Hopefully the rest of this post should make sense!

NOW ON TO THE CHAOS!!!!

Drama Camp always starts on a Tuesday, and the first two days are workshops, with auditions on the second day. After that, we have full rehearsals up until our performance! This post is going to cover the workshops and auditions. So without further ado, let us begin!

May 31st [Day One — Workshops]:

* We arrived at the theater at 9:00 AM, bright and early, but the front door was locked, so we waited. Two girls, Emma (the director’s daughter) and Jordan (one of her friends), came around and told us to go in through the back door. Emma and Jordan were in last year’s production and it was great to see them again! I gave Emma a hug because some stuff went down last year (let’s just say there was a lot of offstage drama last year that wasn’t resolved until a couple of months ago) and told her her hair smelled good. She gave me a sarcastic response. She hasn’t changed at all since last year. But I love her!

* Since we were there so early, we got to see most people come in. There were a bunch of familiar faces, and a decent amount of new faces, too! A couple of the people that were there the first couple of days ended up dropping out of the cast because they were busy or they got sick or they just didn’t want to be a part of the show, but it wasn’t anyone I cared about. I’M JUST KIDDING WOW THAT SOUNDED REALLY BAD GAH!!! We actually lost a lot of good talent. But we pulled together at the end and an understudy got to shine, so that was cool.

Anyway, the final cast ended up being:

Me (me)
Chloe (my sister, 13)
Anna (my other sister, 11)
Eden (my other other sister, 9)
Emma (of course)
Jordan (also of course)
Caden (was there the first year)
Emily (was also there the first year)
Evan (was there last year for our Godspell production, played Jesus)
Lucy (new)
Brileigh (also new)
Ethan (also also new)
Bryson (also also also new)
Nevaeh (new, but we met her in the parking lot before we went inside)
Valerie (new but came to see last year’s show)

I really enjoyed this year’s cast. They were all wonderful, and so so talented! I’m hoping to see all of them next year.

* When we made a circle at the beginning it was almost perfect, and I was worried about us. (It’s a known fact that theater kids DO NOT know how to make circles.) Fortunately, all the circles after that were quite imperfect, so I guess it was just a one time thing.

* To break the ice, Cheryl made us introduce ourselves by an animal, so hi, I’m Mia the moose.

* After introductions of the people and the program and all that jazz, Cheryl had us do an acting exercise. We split into two lines, and one person from each line came forward and did a little part. My line’s part was a 90-year-old and we said, “How are you doin’, sweetheart?” and the other line’s part was a toddler and they said, “Do you have any gum?” I was across from Ethan, so we come forward and I say my part and play the part and Ethan’s playing his part, AND THEN he says his line in his NORMAL VOICE (which is quite deep) and everyone just lost it. It was amazing.

* After that chaos, we did an exercise that consisted of two characters talking about shoes. It was supposed to be a workshop of voice inflection and mood and all that jazz, and it was fun. The kicker was that I was barefoot. I was wearing no shoes. So what shoes were we talking about? Who even knows?

* GUYS OKAY LISTEN UP BECAUSE THIS WAS THE ABSOLUTE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY

OKAY SO, THERE’S THIS GAME CALLED “ZIP ZAP ZOWIE” THAT CHERYL AND EMMA LOVE. EMMA ALMOST ALWAYS WINS AND WHEN SHE DOESN’T, CHERYL WINS. TO PLAY, YOU HOLD YOUR HANDS IN A PRAYER POSITION IN FRONT OF YOU. SOMEONE STARTS BY SAYING “ZIP” AND MAKING EYE CONTACT AND POINTING AT SOMEONE. THAT PERSON THEN SAYS “ZAP” AND POINTS TO SOMEONE ELSE AND THAT SOMEONE ELSE SAYS “ZOWIE” AND POINTS TO ANOTHER SOMEONE. AND YOU JUST GO AROUND LIKE THAT UNTIL SOMEONE SAYS THE WRONG THING OR HESITATES. THEN THAT PERSON STEPS OUT OF THE CIRCLE AND GAMEPLAY CONTINUES.

SO WE WERE PLAYING AND BEFORE LONG, THERE WERE THREE PEOPLE IN THE CIRCLE, ME, EMMA, AND JORDAN. JORDAN DIDN’T LIKE THE IDEA OF COMPETING AGAINST EMMA ONE-ON-ONE (THE LESS PEOPLE THERE ARE, THE HARDER, AND ONE-ON-ONE IS AN INSANE CHALLENGE) AND THE NERVES GOT TO HER. AND SUDDENLY IT WAS JUST ME AND EMMA. EMMA. THE CHAMPION OF THE GAME. I WAS TERRIFIED.

OVER A YEAR AGO, I CAME UP WITH A POTENTIAL STRATEGY TO HELP YOU WIN IN ONE-ON-ONE ZIP ZAP ZOWIE AND I’D NEVER HAD THE CHANCE TO TEST IT UNTIL THAT DAY. MY HEART WAS ABSOLUTELY POUNDING. I WAS TERRIFIED.

EMMA STARTED AND I PUT MY PLAN INTO ACTION. INSTEAD OF PAYING ATTENTION TO WHAT SHE WAS SAYING, I TUNED HER OUT AND FOCUSED ON SAYING “ZAP ZIP ZOWIE” OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I WAS IN THE ZONE GUYS. I FELT IT. I COULD HEAR HER VOICE BUT I COULDN’T HEAR WHAT SHE WAS SAYING. I COULD SENSE EVERYONE WATCHING BUT I COULDN’T FEEL THEIR STARES. I WAS CONSUMED IN MY ZIP ZAP ZOWIE-ING.

AND THEN EMMA FALTERED.

I WAS IN SHOCK. I LEGITIMATELY COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. IT FELT LIKE A DREAM. AND THEN EMMA WAS SCREAMING AND CHERYL WAS CHEERING AND I REALIZED.

I WON.

I BEAT THE ZIP ZAP ZOWIE QUEEN.

Y’ALL, THE HIGH I GOT FROM THAT. . . . IT WAS SOMETHIN’ ELSE, LEMME TELL YA.

SO YEAH, THAT’S THAT.

ARE Y’ALL PROUD OF ME?

* After that glorious moment, we did a read-through of half the script and goodness gracious half the cast could not read I was concerned. But I guess we can’t all have the homeschool blessing. *flips fabulous homeschooled hair*

* We did some small group work, just to practice playing off of each other, and I was in a group with Brileigh, Emily, and Bryson. Our scene was kind of short, so we mostly just chatted. Bryson played the silent king, and he did pretty good. I figured it’d be fun if he actually got cast as the king. Anyways, we were on break and most of us were hovering around the piano, and I just hear someone calling my name, and I look in the wings and Bryson is sitting in a tall chair and he just goes, “Now I’m really a king, I have a throne and everything!” He’s great. I love him.

* I mentioned we were all hovering around the piano and that was because Evan was going to serenade us! He played a piece by Bach (I don’t know what it’s called) and also Solfeggietto (by Bach) which was *chef’s kiss*. And Emma played the chords to a song and sang, but I didn’t know the words, so I just kind of hummed harmony and then Evan hummed bass and we had a little jam session. IT WAS THE BESTTTT!!! I love having musical friends. I always walk away from a jam session happy. And when we were done, Bryson kept reiterating how great it was. Definitely a highlight.

* When our small groups performed, the people who weren’t onstage gave positive feedback. Well, when they were giving feedback to our group, Jordan and Emma could not stop gushing over this little shrug that Bryson did. After the fact, he and I were talking and he was just like, “I didn’t even realize I did it; it was just subconscious.” I didn’t see The ShrugTM, but those who did see claimed it touched their soul. Bryson credited our vocal director, Jonathan’s, shoulder exercises from earlier. Everyone was begging Bryson to do the shrug again, but he decided to play it coy and said, “You’ll just have to wait until I’m cast as the king.” So he decided to torture us.

* JORDAN’S MOM BROUGHT DONUTS ‘NUFF SAID

* Before rehearsal started, when we were still waiting for everyone to arrive, several of us got into a conversation about books, and that’s how me and Nevaeh (nuh – VAY – uh) became friends. Okay, well technically, we were introduced to her in the parking lot when we first arrived, but we BONDED over books, and that’s the next best thing. And I am telling you this because Nevaeh will be a prominent character throughout the rest of this series. SHE IS IMPORTANT. REMEMBER HER.

June 1st [Day Two — Workshops + Auditions]

I’m just going to say this: Day two was chaos. I’m not going to share everything that happened out of respect for the privacy of my friends, but I will say, a LOT more happened than what I wrote here.

* We did more small group work that morning, and our group ended up doing the same scene as Group 2 (Evan, Nevaeh, Emma, and another girl who ended up quitting), which was funny. They did better, but they were more organized. It was fun, though. We got a lot of good feedback.

* Whenever we did vocal warmups, Jonathan had us stand around the piano, and we all had accidentally designated spots. Me, Jordan, and Emma always stood along the back of the piano, Chloe and Nevaeh to my left, Brileigh to my right, and everyone fanning out from there.

(Also, side note, I’ve been under Jonathan’s teaching for several years. He’s always been the vocal director for Drama Camp, but he’s also the music minister at the church across the street from the theater. My family used to attend that church, and even after we changed churches, I still participated in the youth choir for several years, until we started attending a church with evening church. Anyways, because I’ve been under Jonathan for so long, I have his vocal exercises memorized backwards and forwards, even at what point in the exercise he has us change vowels [e.g. starting out by singing “doo” and then changing to “dah” and then “dee” and then back to “doo”]. If I ever need to warm myself up for singing, I’ve got myself covered. [I’ll probably still hear everything in Jonathan’s voice though LOL])

* We had a break and after we came back, there was a sporadic “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” sing-along. ‘Twas fun. I was Dolores.

* During lunch, while we were sitting in the lobby, I heard someone playing the piano in the auditorium, so I went up to investigate. It was Bryson! He was trying to figure out the tune to a song, so I just hung of the piano while he did that. I felt like Lucy from “Peanuts” XD (Also, this is probably obvious, but the piano is a lot harder to play when you’re looking at it over the back. Everything’s upside-down!) After Bryson finished, I figured out the chords to some Pirates of the Caribbean songs and we had fun with that.

Now. Auditions. The rollercoaster. I hope y’all are ready. (I definitely wasn’t.)

* I went into the bathroom to make sure my hair looked alright (vain, I know, but I fixed it without a mirror and I had to be sure), and I found Nevaeh and another girl, Hailey (she quit), in the bathroom. I didn’t pay any attention to them at first, but I quickly came to realize that dear, sweet Nevaeh was freaking out about auditions and Hailey was trying to calm her nerves. We prayed together and I think that helped Nevaeh a lot. After our prayer, we continued talking about cats and stuff and Nevaeh practiced a little. I honestly don’t know what she was worried about, she absolutely killed her audition. We could hear her singing from the lobby. It was gorgeous.

* Brileigh summoned us out of the bathroom because something happened to someone and we went out to investigate. Unfortunately, another something happened to the same someone, which resulted in Cheryl being called in and she sent us out of the lobby so she could be alone with the someone. (All of that was redacted out of respect for the someone’s privacy.) Most everyone went into the bathrooms, but me, Hailey, and Bryson panicked and went into the auditorium. The something happened in the middle of one group’s auditions, and they were just standing awkwardly on the stage. The judges weren’t talking. The three of us sat in the house completely silently. Guys. It was miserable. We were all worried about the someone and NO ONE was saying anything. If any of y’all like to read, you’ve surely seen the phrase, “The tension was so thick, you could have cut it with a knife.” NEVER has that statement felt so TRUE!! So yes, out of all that, I learned that writers do not exaggerate when they talk about tension.

Fortunately, we didn’t have to sit in there for more than five minutes before Cheryl called us back in. We went and got everyone out of the bathrooms. Everyone was understandably a little shaken up, so we just sat in quiet groups and chatted (mostly about auditions with a little bit of Harry Potter thrown in). Thankfully, there were no more negative incidents (well, other than Emma getting chased by a spider and Bryson skooshing it), and the third group out of four went in to audition.

* During that audition, absolute chaos ensued in the lobby. Bryson started reading us a children’s book and then there was a myriad of random and chaotic jokes and then Brileigh started attacking Ethan and was WINNING (keep in mind that Brileigh is 10 and barely taller than my waist, and Ethan is, like, 5′ 10″, and can bench 200 pounds), and their battle ended with Ethan on the floor cowering in fear. It’s like I told my friend, thespians be crazy. When Group 3’s audition ended, we rushed to return everything to normal so they wouldn’t suspect anything. Although, we were pretty loud, they probably heard us even though the doors were closed. To this day, I still don’t think they know exactly what went on while they were auditioning. Unless they’re reading this blog post, which in that case. . . . hey guys! You didn’t miss much. ๐Ÿ™‚

* After that, it was my group’s turn to have our auditions. I actually felt pretty good during my audition! I was confident and bubbly, and I enjoyed it, which is definitely not how I usually am. I’m always riddled with anxiety during auditions. I think it’s because everyone else was panicking about their own auditions and I was so busy trying to calm their nerves, I didn’t have time for nerves of my own. I guess my anxiety has the “mom-friend override” XD Anyways, I auditioned first because none of the others in my group felt comfortable going first.

I guess I should explain how auditions work. Basically, we’re split up into groups of four or five. Each person in the group chooses a scene from the script to audition with, and they read the lines for the biggest character in the scene. The others in the group read for the supporting characters. It just gives the judges an idea of how you act and play off of your fellow actors. Then, the person auditioning sings one of the songs we learned during the first day. (Jonathan teaches us two of the simpler songs in the script, and we can choose the one that we’re more comfortable in to sing so the judges can get a feel for our voice.) After that, another person in the group auditions and we keep going until everyone’s done!

I auditioned for Princess Winnifred the Woebegone, the lead. When I was researching the show before camp, I decided that I might like to be either Winnifred or Lady Larken, a lesser part, but still pretty prominent in the show. But, as I was reading the script the night before, I absolutely fell in love with Winnifred’s character. I wanted to be her so bad! I actually had a lot of fun performing my scene, and I think I did good on the singing. I was a little tense, but everybody’s tense during auditions. Emily went after me and she auditioned for the villain, Queen Aggravain. Then, it was Brileigh, who auditioned for Lady Larken, and finally Bryson, who auditioned for the Silent King. Everyone did beautifully on their auditions (at least in my opinion) and I was excited to see what part they would get!

And then, we went home and waited five hours for the cast list to come out.

It was worth the wait.

Me: Lady Larken
Chloe: The Minstrel (part narrator, part character)
Anna: Lady-in-Waiting (background character)
Eden: Lady-in-Waiting (background character)
Emma: Rowena (a lady-in-waiting, but more important)
Jordan: The Jester (part narrator, part character, besties with the Minstrel)
Caden: Prince Dauntless the Drab (the main guy character)
Emily: Queen Aggravain (y’know, the character she auditioned for!)
Evan: Sir Harry (Larken’s lover)
Lucy: Lady-in-Waiting (background character)
Brileigh: Princess #12/Lady-in-Waiting (she had a little part at the beginning of the show and played a lady-in-waiting for the rest)
Ethan: The Wizard (Queen Aggravain’s right hand man)
Bryson: The Silent King (the part he auditioned for!)
Nevaeh: Princess Winnifred (100% deserved, too)
Valerie: Lucille (a lady-in-waiting, but more important, like Rowena)

Cheryl also cast understudies this year, which she’d never done before. I thought that was pretty cool. I didn’t understudy for anyone, but Emma was my understudy and I thought that was cool as well. It’s actually a really good thing Cheryl cast understudies this year because, aside from lots of people being out during rehearsals, the girl who was actually cast as Lucille ended up quitting and Valerie was her understudy! So Valerie got the chance to shine onstage.

I was disappointed I didn’t get the part of Winnifred, but I was okay with my role. And as rehearsal went on, I actually really came to like playing Larken! It was a way different role than I played and such a fun challenge! I had to play a character that was delicate and graceful and desperately in love (all things that I am not. Well, besides the last one LOL) and it was SO FUN exploring the deep recesses of myself to bring her to life.

(Actually, the thing I was most excited about when I first found out I was going to play Larken was getting to yell at Evan in the middle of the show XD Sorry Evan! I still love ya!)

So yeah! That’s a decent summary of the first two days of Drama Camp! I hope y’all enjoyed! The next post will be about the last two days of week one and the chaos that ensued during vocal intensives. (You will quickly learn that all of these posts are about chaos ensuing. There are different genres of chaos that ensued, but chaos always ensued. *nods*)

That’s all I’ve got to say. Bye y’all!

Me And Music Tag ~ In Which I Try Very Hard Not to Lose My Mind (I Promise, I Do)

On this exact day one year ago, I did the Me And Music Tag. (You can find that here) I thoroughly enjoyed it, as I am rather obsessed with music of all kinds. (Who am I kidding, music is literally my life.) As I scrolled through my old posts (yeah, I do that sometimes), I saw it and thought to myself, Huh, I reckon my music tastes have changed quite a bit since I last did this. And I have a playlist now, full of all of my favorites and then some. I should redo this tag.

So here I am.

Sometimes my reasoning is so flawless it scares me.

I’m going to do my best to not use any of the songs I listed raved over last time, but there are absolutely no promises, and it will be a miracle if I can get through this post without losing my mind. So, without further ado, off we go!

Rules:

1. Link back to the original post so Sophie can see your answers and listen to the tunes. โœ”

2. For every prompt you choose to do, name 1-5 songs. (Last time, I greatly ignored this rule, but I will try my very best to follow it. No promises though. I have 497+ songs to choose from ๐Ÿ˜ฌ)

3. Have fun and play your music LOUD! โœ”

Portable Sounds || TobyMac

If anyone knows me, they know that I am one massive TobyMac fan. I was raised on DC Talk and TobyMac and I still love his music SO MUCH!!!! It just keeps getting better with every song he releases! But Portable Sounds is definitely my favorite. I used to listen to this album literally every day for weeks on end.

His Story – The Musical || Anna Miriam Brown

This. Musical. Granted, it’s only an audio musical right now, but it’s so good. It’s a musical about the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus but it was inspired by Hamilton, which just makes it a thousand times better. And — get this — it was written by a sixteen-year-old who knew almost nothing about songwriting and music theory. And yet she did such a beautiful job.

Twenty-One Pilots || Twenty-One Pilots

What an imaginative album name ๐Ÿ˜‚ I discovered Twenty-One Pilots a couple of months ago, and I absolutely love their music so much. But their first album is by far my favorite.

Encanto || Lin-Manuel Miranda and Germaine Franco

I’m sorry guys. But who isn’t obsessed with this soundtrack? Even the instrumental music is SO GOOD!!! Expect to see more of these songs sprinkled through this post.

Belly of the Whale || Newsboys
Woke up this morning kinda blue // Thinking through that age-old question: // How to exit a whale’s digestion?

My. Siblings. Are. Obsessed. With the VeggieTales Jonah soundtrack. I, on the other hand, am absolutely exhausted with it. But this song is fun. I have dedicated my life to learning that super speedy part towards the end. Haven’t succeeded yet. But I’m close. I can smell it.

Light of Christmas || TobyMac feat. Owl City
Light of Christmas shining through // Our eyes, our smiles, you know it could shine on through // All the good that we do for the people that don’t have it so good

I remember listening to this song in the credits after we watched Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas, just sitting in the floor of the living room. It’s a pretty good song, and one of my favorites.

Promised Land || TobyMac
Always tryin’ to do what’s right // Straight and narrow’s gettin’ tight

This one reminds me of my eternal home in Heaven.

Freedom || Pharrell Williams
Your first name is Free // Last name is Dom // ‘Cause you still believe // In where we’re from

For whatever reason, this song makes me think of my old bedroom. I don’t know why. My brain is weird.

Ready For Home || Capital Kings
My weary head is swimmin’ straight for your shore // I feel a calling // From the one I adore

I mean. . . . this song has “home” in the title! It reminds me of my eternal home in Heaven, too.

[I wrote this section back in March, and the charts have definitely changed since then, but I’m too lazy to go back and change it sooo]

Alrighty, I looked up Billboard’s Top 100 chart and literally all of these are TikTok/YouTube Shorts songs. And I bet most of them have language in them as well. Here are the ones I noticed.

We Don’t Talk About Bruno || Encanto
Seven-foot frame // Rats along his back // When he calls your name // It all fades to black

I’m not surprised by this one.

Enemy || Imagine Dragons x JID
Your words up on the wall as you’re praying for my fall // And the laughter in the halls and the names that I’ve been called

I love Imagine Dragons. This song is fun and, alas, relatable. (Also that little chuckle before the chorus just gives me so much serotoninnnnn)

Surface Pressure || Encanto
Line up the dominoes, a light wind blows // You try to stop it topplin’, but on and on it goes

Well what do you know? Another Encanto song! In my opinion, this one is better than WDTAB, but that’s just me.

The Family Madrigal || Encanto
Look, it’s Mr. Mariano, hey // You can marry my sister if you wanna but // Between you and me, she’s kind of a prima donna // Yo, I’ve said too much and thank you but I really gotta go!

HEY IT’S ANOTHER ONE

Boyfriend || Dove Cameron
I don’t need to tell you twice // All the ways he can’t suffice

Content Warning: If you want to listen to this one, definitely look up the clean version. There’s quite a bit of language sprinkled throughout.

I really just listen to this song for the beat. It’s pretty good. The lyrics are a little weird though. Although it does make a good character song.

Numb Little Bug || Em Beihold
Do you ever get a little bit tired of life // Like you’re not really happy but you don’t wanna die // Like you’re hanging by a thread but you gotta survive? // ‘Cause you gotta survive

This one is relatable as heck, and pretty dang catchy.

What Else Can I Do? || Encanto
I’m so sick of pretty, I want something true, don’t you?

OH MY GOODNESS IT’S ANOTHER ONE

Dos Oruguitas || Encanto
Ay, mariposas, no se aguanten mรกs // Hay que crecer aparte y volver // Hacia adelante seguirรกs

Ah, there it is. My favorite Encanto song. I literally cry whenever I listen to it.

Waiting on a Miracle || Encanto
Can’t keep down the unspoken invisible pain // Always waiting on a miracle

AND YET ANOTHER ONE

Insane || Black Gryph0n and Baasik
Hey! Sorry, but you just got in my way // I promise honey, I can feel your pain // And maybe I enjoy it just a little bit // Does that make me insane?

Content Warning: Demons, hell, murder, etc.

I am obsessed with this song. Admittedly, it’s a bit dark, but it is sO AMAZING!!!!! Literally, I can’t help but pretend I’m in a music video. And yes, I will be the first to admit that I have issues.

Catchy Song || The Lego Movie 2
This song is now in your brain // And in your brain it will remain!

No, I am not going to apologize.

Blood // Water || grandson
When the last tree’s fallen, the animal can’t hide // Money won’t solve it // What’s your alibi?

Content Warning: So, looking up the lyrics, I realized this song is actually quite dark, so listen at your own risk, I guess.

This one is also kind of dark, but it’s fantastic at the same time. As you will notice throughout this post, I have a rather interesting taste in music.

Greedy || OR3O feat. Swiblet
Welcome to my casino, lads, are you down for a deal tonight? // Let’s see if the luck is in your hands, if you’re ready come on and roll the dice

Content Warning: Gambling, murder, the devil. Gosh, why are all these songs so dark?

Anddddd, this is a Cuphead song. I usually ignore if a song was written for a video game or something, and just focus on the song.

The Run and Go || Twenty-One Pilots
You’ll have to watch me struggle // From several rooms away // But tonight I’ll need you to stay

Content Warning: Implications of murder, mention of demons (but not, like, seriously or anything), evasion of authorities?

I don’t think I’ll ever understand why TOP put such a heavy topic to such a bouncy, fun tune, but I love it nevertheless.

Cake || Melanie Martinez
You smell just like vanilla // You taste like buttercream // You’re filling up my senses // With empty calories

Content Warning: An unhealthy relationship, I guess

Help.

Follow You || Imagine Dragons
Taking those, taking those losses if it treats you right // I want to put you into the spotlight

I. LOVE. This song. It’s definitely at the top of my favorites list. The tune and the lyrics and the theme just ahhhhh it’s so gooddddd.

House of Memories || Panic! at the Disco
And when your fantasies // Become your legacy // Promise me a place // In your house of memories

I feel like this song would make a pretty good prompt for a short story or something. And it works pretty well for several of my characters.

Monster || Imagine Dragons
If I told you what I was // Would you turn your back on me? // And if I seem dangerous // Would you be scared?

This is another one that I pretend I’m in a music video for. And, in my opinion, it makes the perfect character theme song.

Join Us For a Bite || JT Music
We’re only playing // Just wanted to make a few new friends // You plan on staying? // When you’re with us, the party never ends

Content Warning: Cannibalism, I guess? Also, general insanity.

This song was written as a Five Nights as Freddy’s theme song, but I know literally nothing about FNAF, so I listen to this song for the beat. It is SO FUN to dance to. I’m obsessed.

Live For the Drop || Capital Kings
What we have, it can’t be bought // What we do, it can’t be taught

How can I resist dancing to a song that is literally focused around the drop?

The HampsterDance Song || Hampton the Hampster
Alright, everybody now here we go // It’s a brand new version of the do-si-do

I am genuinely very sorry for having this on my list. But. . . . it’s a bop, sooo. . . .

Take Me As I Am || Lecrae
I thought at first I had to clean up my life // Now I’m hearin’ I just need to cling to the Light // I’m ready to do it, but Lord, I pray You understand // My life is a mess, will You take me as I am?

Content Warning: Hell and the Devil (obviously), death/crucifixion (also obviously)

This. Is. Amazing. Definitely one of my favorite Lecrae songs. And painfully relatable.

Feeling Good || Michael Bublรฉ
Stars, when you shine // You know how I feel // Scent of the pine // You know how I feel

Literally the only Michael Bublรฉ song I’ve ever heard, but it is SO fun. I love it a lot.

Unity || TheFatRat
Keep on walking to the sound of the drums // Feel the fire run through our lungs // Find our treasure in the light of the sun // And show the whole world who we are

You know when you’re listening to a great song, and you just can’t help but smile because it’s so amazing? Yeah, that happens when I listen to this song. SO good.

Thumbs || Sabrina Carpenter
Somewhere in the world, you got a robber and a bank // And the bank robbed the people, so the people rob the bank // And the police came to get him, but they let him get away // ‘Cause they’re all just workin’ to get paid the very same

Content Warning: Robbery (as proved above)

The BEAT on this song is AMAZING!!! And it’s so catchy!!

You’ll Never Be Alone || Capital Kings
Sometimes life is an ocean // We’re just trying to flow // We get caught in slow motion // From the undertow

This song always gets my toes tapping.

Natural || Imagine Dragons
‘Cause you’re a natural // A beating heart of stone // You gotta be so cold // To make it in this world

AHH, the bass is inCREDIBLE on this song!!!! SO fun to dance to!

Invisible || Julius Dreisig & Zeus X Crona
Do you think that I’m invisible?

I have no words.

Oh no. Broadway.

Okay, okay, calm down. I’ll just list the songs that are actually in my playlist from movies/TV/Broadway, because I have a surprising amount of favorites that aren’t in my playlist for whatever reason.

Six || Six
You could perhaps call us // The Tudor Von Trapps // I’m just kidding // We’re called the Royalling Stones

I really enjoy all of Six, albeit a little inappropriate (but, let’s be honest, what Broadway musical isn’t inappropriate to a degree?), but this song is my favorite. It’s the finale and it has a pretty different feel to the rest of the show.

Moral of the Story || Ashe
Some mistakes get made // That’s alright, that’s okay // You can think that you’re in love // When you’re really just in pain

Content Warning: Language, an unhealthy relationship?

I think this is from Netflix, but I heard it on YouTube. It’s kind of calming. There is one swear word in the bridge, which is annoying, but I just looked up the clean version.

First Burn || Lin-Manuel Miranda
Heaven forbid someone whisper // “He’s part of some scheme” // Your enemy whispers // So you have to scream!

Content Warning: Cheating ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY LIN CUT THIS SONG FROM HAMILTON!!!!! IT’S SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE SONG IN THE SHOW!!!! But, at least he published it so we could lose our marbles over it.

She Used to Be Mine || Waitress
She’s imperfect but she tries // She is good but she lies // She is hard on herself // She is broken and won’t ask for help

I hate this song as much as I love it. It’s so beautiful and so sad and there’s just so much emotion in it. I would want to perform Waitress just for this one song ๐Ÿ˜…

Little Girls (2014) || Annie (2014)
Locked in a cage with all the rats // I’ve slipped through the cracks and now I’m // Stuck with the scraps and I can’t // Seem to find my way back

I’ve never seen the movie, but I like the song, so *shrugs*

Entertain Me || Bridgerton: The Musical
I’m not crazy, but my sanity is circling the drain

Content Warning: Implications of murder

Fool For You || Bridgerton: The Musical
I can fight my own battles // And I won’t be a fool for you

I’ve also never seen Bridgerton, but the demo musical that Barlow and Bear wrote is really good. These are my two favorites.

Wait For Me || Hadestown
But if all you got is your own two legs // You best be glad you got ’em

Content Warning: Death

I’m gonna be honest, I had high expectations for Hadestown, and it kind of let me down. But I did enjoy this song, so y’know.

Everything is Awesome (Tween Dream Remix) || The Lego Movie
Everything is awesome // When youโ€™re living out a dream

Okay, I mean, this is a classic. And the remix is a bop.

Miracle Whip || The Fold
They say “No, No” // We say “Go, Go”

Clearly I am still a child who has a taste in Lego shows. But Lego Ninjago is fantastic, as is the music. This is my favorite out of all the songs.

He Lives In You || The Lion King 2
He lives in you // He lives in me // He watches over // Everything we see

Never seen the movie. Love the song though.

Goodnight, Sweet Possums || Ice Age

*melts* BUT WHY’S IT GOTTA BE SO SHORTTTTT– Fortunately, I found a video with the melody looped for three minutes, so that’s great.

My Jolly Sailor Bold || Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
My heart is pierced by Cupid // I disdain all glittering gold // There is nothing can console me // But my jolly sailor bold

At the time of writing this, I haven’t seen the movie, but I found the song on YouTube, and it’s so haUNTING AND I LOVE IT HALP

Edit: I’ve seen the movie, and I think that’s my favorite mermaid/siren design I’ve ever seen. Amazing.

Test Drive || How to Train Your Dragon

Also haven’t seen this movie, and also found this song on YouTube. It’s so majestic.

Remember Me || Coco
For even if I’m far away // I hold you in my heart // I sing a secret song to you // Each night we are apart

*sobs*

Entertaining Angels (O2R Remix) || Newsboys
Close as a brother // The way we used to be // I’ll hold my breath // And I’ll wait for you to breathe

I don’t know why, but I just get hit with a massive wave of nostalgia whenever I hear this song. I have vague memories of listening to it when I was little, so I guess that’s why. Although, I still have no idea what the lyrics mean.

Give Me Your Eyes || Brandon Heath
Step out on the busy street // See a girl and our eyes meet // Does her best to smile at me // To hide what’s underneath

In seventh grade, I went to a week-long music camp and one of my classes was drama. We didn’t perform a play or anything, but we acted out a little story on top of this song. I played the stressful part of Jesus. It was great.

Light Up the Sky || The Afters
So I’ll run straight into Your arms // You’re the bright and morning sun // To show Your love, there’s nothin’ You won’t do

I heard this song on the radio all the time, and forgot about it when I got older. One of my favorite feelings is when something triggers a little something inside your brain and you grasp at that thought, trying to remember what on earth was triggered. That happened on the way to the aforementioned music camp last year. I’m glad I remembered it because I really love this song.

Monody || TheFatRat feat. Laura Brehm
Summer in the hills // Those hazy days I do remember // We were running still // Had the whole world at our feet

Some people come up with the weirdest artist names. Anyway, this song was in a game me and my brother played when we were little, and I recently rediscovered that game, so y’know.

Ooh Ahh (My Life Be Like) || GRITS feat. TobyMac
The fear of never falling in love // And the tears after losing the feelings of what you thought love was // Like the dirt still up under the rug // My life be like bad characteristics covered in Christ’s blood

I went through a phase where I was obsessed with this song, and sometimes my dad would randomly play it in his truck, because he knew I was obsessed with it. One of these days I’m going to learn all the words.

While You Were Sleeping || Casting Crowns
United States of America // Looks like another silent night // As we’re sung to sleep by philosophies // That save the trees and kill the children

The choir at our old church performed this during a Christmas program awhile back, and ahhh it’s such a good songgg!!

Your Door Was Locked || Element Animations
How could this happen so close to Christmas day? // He just took all of the presents and ran away!

Element Animations was my childhood, and this song is just so goofy. It’s quite a fascinating story told, as well.

Start Over || Flame feat. NF
So dry your eyes, lift up your head // Hallelujah, God is not dead

I’ve heard this song since I was just a wee lass, and I still love it to this day.

Joyful Noise || Flame
He paid the sin price, being beat by Roman guards // But when He resurrected, gave us a life free of charge // Now me and my boys need to be in a psych ward // ‘Cause we went crazy for God, our lives was scarred

Also grew up with this song. It’s fantastic. The wordplay is so fun.

I Will Follow || Chris Tomlin
Who You love, I’ll love // How You serve, I’ll serve // If this life I lose // I will follow You

I will admit, I’m not that big of a Chris Tomlin fan, but this song’s alright. And it’s a good message.

I Hear a Symphony || Cody Fry
With simple songs I wanted more // Perfection is so quick to bore // You are more beautiful by far // Our flaws are who we really are

The piano in this song reminds me of listening to the song during the offering at my childhood church. It was usually a pretty arrangement of some song played on the piano.

Cake By the Ocean || DNCE
I-I-I-I-I-I keep on hopin’ we’ll eat cake by the ocean

Content Warning: There is language in this song. So yeah.

I know I heard this song when I was younger, because the nostalgia hit is unbelievable. It’s pretty good. Although the lyrics are SO weird.

Is this not the whole post? I mean, how could I possibly not sing to the songs I love? Fine, fine, I’ll pick some of my favorites.

Among Us Song [Imposter Imperceptible] || NerdOut feat. JT Music, GameboyJones, Bonecage, Loserfruit, TheOrionSound, Classify
Somewhere within these walls, a villain does exist // It walks inside the halls // And crawls beneath the surface of your ship

Content Warning: Murder, knives, I think there’s some language, various other Among Us nonsense

I hate that I like this song. I don’t really like Among Us, I’m tired of the Internet’s obsession with it, but THIS SONG is amazingly catchy. NerdOut, how could you brainwash me like this?? The rhythm is BEAUTIFUL, though. Definitely my favorite style of rap. I don’t know how to explain it, just go listen to it!!

Why Can’t I? || Liz Phair
Why can’t I breathe whenever I think about you? // Why can’t I speak whenever I talk about you?

Content Warning: Language

Can I just say, this song is one big, fat mood.

I Knew You Were Trouble || Taylor Swift
And the saddest fear comes creeping in // That you never loved me, or her, or anyone, or anything

I’m not that big of a Taylor Swift fan, but I have fallen in love with this song. It’s so catchy and fun, and it makes a great character song.

Born Without a Heart || Faouzia
I’d rather be heartless // Than have my heart in pieces

Wow, what a name. But this song makes a great character song, and I love it immensely.

Something Beautiful || Tom Walker
We find the light on darker days // We seize the joy through all the pain

I just. . . . I don’t even know what to say.

GRRRLS || AViVA
I am the latest colors, I stand above my throne // Waiting for an invite to never come along

Content Warning: Maiming. . . . I guess?

I have absolutely fallen in love with the fast paced-ness of this song. Like. . . . it’s so good.

Brave || Sara Bareilles
Nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do

Help.

Pompeii || Bastille
And the walls kept tumbling down // In the city that we love // Gray clouds roll over the hills // Bringing darkness from above

Why do the lyrics of this song work for so many situations? Also, someone please tell me I’m not the only one who sings songs based off of something someone has said, because I do that a lot.

Friend, Please || Twenty-One Pilots
Friend, please remove your hands from // Over your eyes for me // I know you want to leave but // Friend, please don’t take your life away from me

Content Warning: Implications of suicide (as proved above)

I. LOVE. THIS SONG. So so so pretty.

The Judge || Twenty-One Pilots
But I’m not good with directions // And I hide behind my mouth // I’m a pro at imperfections // And I’m best friends with my doubt

I taught myself this song on my uke. I really just don’t understand how TOP are so good at writing songs! It’s not fair!

Ride || Twenty-One Pilots
“I’d live for you” and that’s hard to do // Even harder to say, when you know it’s not true // Even harder to write, when you know that’s a lie

Content Warning: Bullets?

Oh gosh. I think I have an obsession. *cough*

Record Player || Daisy the Great x AJR
I’ve got a record player that was made in 2014 // Dyed my hair blue, it came out a seasick sort of green // I like vintage dresses when they fall just below my knees // I pretend I scraped ’em climbing in the trees

I found this song because a bunch of people were doing a “one breath challenge” where they were trying to sing the whole chorus in one breath. It’s actually really easy. I do it every time the song comes on ๐Ÿ˜…

Trust In You || Lauren Daigle
When You don’t move the mountains // I’m needing You to move // When You don’t part the waters // I wish I could walk through

I can’t get over how catchy the chorus is!!

Heart of Stone || Britt Nicole
They say that the armor makes you strong // I might be safe but I’m all alone // Been hiding from the Light for way too long // Tell me You can break this heart of stone

This. Song.

Oh gosh. I still don’t really listen to old music. Let’s see what I can find.

Africa || Toto (1982)
It’s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you // There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do

Dang, this song is older than I thought. Huh.

Blue (Da Ba Dee) || Eiffel 65 (1998)
I have a blue house // With a blue window // Blue is the color of all that I wear

I mean, it’s not that old, but it was in the 90s. That was a long time ago. And I love the KNY Factory remix.

Bye, Bye, Bye || ‘N Sync (2000)
Don’t really want to make it tough // I just want to tell you that I’ve had enough

Before my time? Yeah, it’s old. Definitely. Also, sidenote, I didn’t realize ‘N Sync existed so long ago. I thought they were more recent. Maybe I’m thinking of One Direction.

What If I Stumble? || DC Talk (1995)
Did they see the fear in my eyes? // Are they so revealin’? // This time I cannot disguise // All the doubt I’m feelin’

I love DC Talk. And I forgot this song existed until it came on my Pandora station, and I was like, “Well, another song for my playlist!”

Put Your Head On My Shoulder || Paul Anka (1959)
Put your lips next to mine, dear // Won’t you kiss me once, baby? // Just a kiss goodnight, maybe // You and I will fall in love

This is probably the oldest song I’ve ever liked. I’m usually not a big fan of music this old, but this one just caught my attention, for whatever reason. I’ll probably play it at my wedding.

Tom’s Diner || Suzanne Vega (1987)
I finish up my coffee // It’s time to catch the train

Okay, technically, I like the AnnenMayKantereit x Giant Rooks cover better, but the original is still pretty good.

Alpha || C418

I mean, it would be a crime to not have this song in this section. Minecraft was my childhood guys. I feel like most people don’t like this song because they’ve only heard the beginning, but towards the middle when it gets to that string part. . . . *chef’s kiss* Absolute masterpiece.

Unstoppable || Sia
All smiles // I know what it takes to fool this town // I’ll do it ’til the sun goes down and all through the night time

Alright, so, me and my sister were sitting on the couch while my dad watched his sports (it was either football or basketball, I don’t remember which), when a Samsung commercial came on. Andddd it had this song. I just looked at my sister and she looked at me, and we burst into laughter.

Goin Down || Group 1 Crew
And I ain’t gotta let you know what it is // Too cool for these kids, where the fridge?

I had this song stuck in my head when I went to the orthodontist for the first time, and now it reminds me of the orthodontist and vice versa. Brains, man. They’re so weird.

Reverb || Jamie Grace
I can write a song but can’t right my wrongs // I’m a broken vessel like the rest of y’all

When my sister first got her mp4 player (like an mp3 player, but with a โœจ different number โœจ), some of the first songs she downloaded were those by Jamie Grace. Reverb was one of them, and we used to stay up late listening to the music and horsing around. It took me forever, but I eventually memorized the whole rap. Yeah, I’m cool like that.

Priceless || for KING & COUNTRY
I see you dressed in white // Every wrong made right // I see a rose in bloom // At the sight of you

This song always makes me think of white roses and cellos, which then makes me think of white cellos, and honestly, my brain is weird.

There will probably be a lot of these. Brace yourself.

Truth Be Told || Matthew West
There’s a sign on the door, says, “Come as you are” but I doubt it // ‘Cause if we lived like it was true, every Sunday morning pew would be crowded

Guys. This. Song. Something I’ve learned in the past several years is that “I’m fine” and “I’m just tired” are usually a cry for help. Be careful with these phrases.

Grow As We Go || Ben Platt
When you’re high, I’ll take the lows // You can ebb and I can flow // And we’ll take it slow // And grow as we go

Okay, but Ben Platt’s voice is just. . . . a masterpiece. A freaking work of art. Like, sir??? Why you so talented???????? I looove his music. This song is one of my favorites.

Hold Her || for KING & COUNTRY
Hold her tonight // Oh, God, would you hold her tonight? // ‘Cause I’m not there to stay close, keep watch, tell her she’s not alone // Hold her tonight

Honestly, Joel and Luke are so sweet with their wives. This song is just ahhhh!!

Soaking Neptune (Remastered 2020) [1 hour version] || elybeatmaker

I have no words. The entire song is a *chef’s kiss*

Control || for KING & COUNTRY
I will raise my voice and sing // It’s all I’ve got left to bring

My gosh, the chorus though. SO good.

We Trust || His Story the Musical
So we trust that You’re here // We trust that You’re holding us // Through every storm You’re making us brave // You call the lame to walk on the waves

There’s nothing quite like the calmer songs in musicals. They’re almost like lullabies, but with more drums. And His Story has such beautiful songs.

Blessings || Laura Story
‘Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops? // What if Your healing comes through tears? // What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You’re near?

Speaking of lullabies. I used to listen to this song when I couldn’t sleep.

Hallelujah || Leonard Cohen (but especially the Pentatonix version)
Now I’ve heard there was a secret chord // That David played, and it pleased the Lord // But you don’t really care for music, do you?

Content Warning: Love things

I don’t think my love for this song will ever go away. Sometimes, I’m just awed by songwriters’ abilities.

God of Heaven
Saints before, He’s guided safely // History’s pages signed by Him // Author of our days and hours // Things to come are held secure

I have no idea who wrote this song, but it’s a masterpiece. Especially when performed right. I was able to perform it with the adult choir back in middle school at church and that was SO MUCH FUN.

Like My Father || JAX
And if he lives up to my father // Maybe he could teach our daughter // What it takes to love a queen // She should know she’s royalty

Who gAVE HER THE RIGHT?!!?!?!?

Ring Pop || JAX
Oh, we got all we’ll ever need // I think our grass is pretty green

Again, hOW DARE SHE?!?!??!?!

Perfect || Ed Sheeran
Baby, I’m dancing in the dark, with you between my arms // Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song // When I saw you in that dress, looking so beautiful // I don’t deserve this, darling, you look perfect tonight

All I’m saying is, if my future boyfriend doesn’t randomly turn this on and ask me to dance, then What Is The Pointโ„ข?

the author || luz
I don’t wanna stay here // I wanna be in your arms by the sea // Studying your freckles curiously // Focused on your eyes so delicately

As a writer, I approve. And the lyrics are so aesthetic!!

Supermarket Flowers || Ed Sheeran
I hope that I see the world as you did ’cause I know // A life with love is a life that’s been lived

I feel like this song would make a great funeral song. Maybe I’ll have it at mine. Although, if I keep choosing funeral songs at the rate I’m going, my funeral will be a straight concert.

Before You Start Your Day || Twenty-One Pilots
Look in the mirror // And ask your soul // If you’re alright // Put out the glitter // That your soul // Hides behind

If I don’t get a boyfriend who sings something like this to me to put me to sleep at least once, then, again, What Is The Pointโ„ขโ„ข??

Taxi Cab || Twenty-One Pilots
And then one turned around to say // We’re driving toward the morning sun // Where all your blood is washed away // And all you did will be undone

Content Warning: Death

Pretty.

Oh Ms Believer || Twenty-One Pilots
We get colder // As we grow older // We will walk // So much slower

Pretty, also.

CWJBHN || Jake Scott
Even if we burn this down // Even if we can’t be friends // ‘Cause you hate me in the end // Can we just be happy now?

The harmonies though.

Surrender || Natalie Taylor
We let the waters rise // We drifted to survive // I needed you to stay // But I let you drift away

This song is the most calming song I’ve ever heard. At first, I didn’t really like it, but it started growing on me, and then, well, the rest is history.

Jungle || Emma Louise
And I’m complicated, you won’t get me // I have trouble understanding myself

Okay, the lyrics kind of contradict the category I put this in, but there’s just something about Emma Louise’s voice. It pretty.

Never Seen Anything (Quite Like You) || The Script
Well, I’ve seen you in jeans with no make-up on // And I’ve stood there in awe as your date for the prom // I’m blessed as a man to have seen you in white // But I’ve never seen anything quite like you tonight

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, if my future boyfriend doesn’t sing this to me, then What Is The Pointโ„ขโ„ขโ„ข???

Memories || Maroon 5
There’s a time that I remember when I never felt so lost // When I felt all of the hatred was too powerful to stop

This one makes me sad, but it’s so lovely.

This Isn’t the End || Owl City
An eight year old girl had a panic attack // ‘Cause the father she loved left and never looked back // No longer the hero, she counted on // He told her he loved her and then he was gone

Content Warning: Suicide

Help????

So Will I || Ben Platt
The mountains won’t start moving // And the rivers won’t run dry // The world will always be there // And so will I

Double help?????????

Runaway || AURORA
And I was dancing in the rain // I felt alive and I can’t complain

Triple help???????????????

You Are Enough || Sleeping At Last
When we grew up, our shadows grew up too // But they’re just old ghosts that we grow attached to // The tragic flaw is that they hide the truth // That you’re enough, you’re enough, you’re enough

STRINGS

Let Her Go || Passenger
Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low // Only hate the road when you’re missing home // Only know you love her when you let her go // And you let her go

Now this, is a fantastically sad song. Aaaahh!

This Is Home || Cavetown
Get a load of this monster // He doesn’t know how to communicate // His mind is in a different place // Will everybody please give him a little bit of space?

Content Warning: Death, and general haunting-ness

The ukulele, though. I especially love the Sarah In the Bathroom x This Is Home mashups. They’re so pretty and they blend surprisingly well.

Training Wheels || Melanie Martinez
I love everything you do // When you call me really dumb for the stupid things I do

Content Warning: Language, relationship things

I don’t know, I just like how unconventional this song is. The accompaniment is gorgeous.

Home || KUN
We are not alone // We’re going home // No pain will last forever

So pretty and simple and angeliccccc

Hmm. I don’t typically cry at songs, but let’s see what I can find.

hey siri || salem ilise
Hey Siri, could you tell how to fix my broken heart // No one made it stop // I just can’t get it to start

I just. . . . I don’t even know what to say. It’s just so sad. Someone needs to give Salem a hug.

Human || Christina Perri
Your words in my head, knives in my heart // You build me up and then I fall apart // ‘Cause I’m only human

I think Christina Perri needs a hug, too.

Two Oruguitas || Lin-Manuel Miranda
Wonders await you // Just on the other side // Trust they’ll be there // Start to prepare // The way for tomorrow

I know, I know, I’ve already done this song, but AHHHH IT’S SO GOODDDDDD

Don’t Cry || Maddie Malekos
Just don’t cry // Letโ€™s pretend we see blue skies // Letโ€™s pretend that we’re all good, wonโ€™t fall apart // ‘Cause we’re all good, no need to restart

Maddie wrote this song and posted it on TikTok in two parts, and someone made a video of both the parts together, and I have adopted that video into my playlist, the end. And yes, contrary to the title, I do cry.

Exile || Taylor Swift
I think I’ve seen this film before // And I didn’t like the ending // You’re not my homeland anymore // So what am I defending now?

Okay, but why is this song so sad?? Taylor needs a hug, too!

If You Could See Me Now || The Script
Would you call me a saint or a sinner? // Would you love me, a loser or a winner? // When I see my face in the mirror // We look so alike that it makes me shiver

Content Warning: Death, a little bit of language, drinking, smoking

My empathy is off the charts with this one. I think he needs a hug wHY DOES EVERYONE NEED A HUG FOR HEAVEN’S SAKES

Heaven (Fix Things) || Jamie Grace
Everything that’s broken is in Your hands // And You hold the power to turn mountains into sand // And You can make a river out of dry land // But You won’t always fix things // On this side of Heaven

Madam, who gAVE YOU THE RIGHT

Pass It On || Kurt Hugo Schneider
Like the happiness you bring // Or the harmony you sing // Everybody needs some love in their life

How dare this man be so talented? My tears do not come from sadness, they come from amazement and awe and also how pretty the song is.

Control || Zoe Wees
Don’t know if you get it ’cause I can’t express how thankful I am // That you were always with me when it hurts, I know that you’d understand

The absolute emotion in this song is incredible. I just. . . . wow.

You Broke Me First || Tate McRae
Yeah, you could say you miss all that we had // But I don’t really care how bad it hurts // When you broke me first

Just. . . . sadz.

Catchafire (Whoopsi-Daisy) || TobyMac
Spark to a flame, I’m flippin’ up my game // I caught the fire and I’ll never be the same

The beat, though. Definitely very energizing.

joy. || for KING & COUNTRY
Back when I was young, my eyes were full of life // But now that I am older, I live at the speed of light

I love the story told in the music video. Too often, people are focused on the bad. More people should focus on the good. I mean, no wonder so many people are depressed and anxious.

Legends Never Die || Against the Current
When everything’s lost, they pick up their hearts and avenge defeat // Before it all starts, they suffer through harm just to touch a dream

Definitely one of my favorites. The chorus is incredible.

Good Day || Nappy Roots
We’re gonna have a good day // And ain’t nobody gonna cry today // ‘Cause ain’t nobody gonna die today! // Save that drama for another day // Hey, we’re gonna have a good day

Who doesn’t want to have a good day?

Well, I’m not sure how many of these I can think of, but we’ll see what I’ve got.

Please Don’t Let Me Go || Group 1 Crew
It’s hard to feel alive when you’re cold // It’s hard to reach the sky when you’re low // Sunlight is hard to find in a storm // How can I give love if my soul’s been torn?

This song just has so many poetic parts. And the vocals are so pretty.

What Other People Say || Sam Fischer & Demi Lovato
I used to not take chances with God’s name // But it’s been so long since I last prayed // And now I’m all messed up and my heart’s changed // ‘Cause I care more about what other people say

I do not like how relatable this song is. But this line is just *chef’s kiss*.

Y’know, I think all the songs with good lyrics are interspersed throughout this post, so, yeah, I don’t really have anything good to put here. Oh well.

I’m not usually one for music videos, but I have a couple.

Love Me Like I Am || for KING & COUNTRY
It’s amazing that You can // Love me like I am // Even when I can’t //You still love me as I am

Okay, first of all, who gave Luke and Joel the rIGHT TO DO THIS TO ME?!??!? I just clicked on the video like, ooh, cool, new fK&C song, and then THIS SONG HAPPENED LIKE ?????? THAT’S NOT OKAY!!!!! But, fr, it’s a good song. Check it out.

Dare to imagine // Dare to believe in // A true love that gave us // A reason for living

Band of Gold || The Gray Havens
Yes, I threw away the key // That bound my heart to yours // To the bottom of the sea // I don’t need it anymore

This video is so cute! I love the story. Also, if I don’t have this song at my wedding, I will literally fight someone.

I actually don’t have any for this one. :/

Heehee, I have a lot of these. . . .

Isle of Flightless Birds || Twenty-One Pilots
I am cold, can you hear? // I will fly with no hope, no fear // And the ground taunts my wings // Plummet as I sing, plummet as I sing

Content Warning: Mentions of suicide and demons

Okay, is it just me, or does the accompaniment make one epic villain song? Like, I can’t stop listening to it. It’s amazing.

You’re Somebody Else || Flora Cash
Well you look like yourself // But you’re somebody else // Only it ain’t on the surface

*sobs*

Hermit the Frog || MARINA
When my heart just burst like a glass balloon // I let it fly too high and it shattered too soon

Content Warning: Language, mentions of the devil (I don’t know if that would trigger anyone, but just in case)

I’m still yet to figure out what this song is about, but I like the tune, soooo. . . .

Pity Party || Melanie Martinez
It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to // Cry if I want to // I’ll cry until the candles burn down this place // I’ll cry until my pity party’s in flames

The beat is just fanTASTic!!!

At this point, I think the entire Minecraft community is in agreement that this is the best music disc ever.

Content Warning: Language

prom queen || Molly Kate Kestner
And she’s got the looks and the boys on hooks // But she’d trade it all for a heart that’s whole

Content Warning: This song’s a little bit risquรฉ, so it just depends what you’re comfortable with ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

This song is incredible. I have no words.

Everything Black || Unlike Pluto feat. Mike Taylor
In a nocturnal state of mind // Children of the night // But it’s the only way of life

This is like “Blue” but about black stuffs. It’s cool. I like it.

Ticking || TIN

Idk why, but this song makes me happy ๐Ÿ˜Š

The Easy Way || His Story the Musical
I can make You squirm // โ€˜Til You don’t know what to say // So take my advice // And take the easy way

Content Warning: The devil (obviously)

Easily my favorite song in the whole musical. In this song, Satan is tempting Jesus and the style is just *chef’s kiss* SO good.

Who I Am || His Story the Musical
I don’t know how to stop it // It’s like ropes are being tied to my hands // I’m becoming someone’s puppet // Numbness grows, darkness expands // Things are going blurry // I’m losing all control // But somehow I donโ€™t feel worried // When I’m walking with the pull

Content Warning: The devil (also obviously)

Probably my second favorite. This is the song where Judas decides to betray Jesus, and it’s so haunting and beautiful and mysterious, like ahhhh

Let’s see if I can find any that haven’t been placed in other categories.

Run Away || Ben Platt
He wrote her poems, songs, and prose // She knew that he’d propose // She only wondered when

The story in this song is precious. I looove the recurring themes and ahhh it’s just such a clever song!

Bleeding Out || Imagine Dragons
I’m bleeding out // So if the last thing that I do // Is bring you down // I’ll bleed out for you

Content Warning: Blood (no, duh)

Is this a love song? Sure. Sure it is. It also makes a great character song.

Without You || for KING & COUNTRY
What do you do when you don’t get better? // Strong arms get too, get too weak to hold her // Oh God, give me just enough strength to make it through

This is an adorable song that Luke wrote for his wife and her vocals really add to the melody. Such a masterpiece.

For rich or for poor // May not have much but this I’m sure // Until my dream comes true // I’ll be praying for you

I just. . . . this song is so cute.

Shower || Becky G
You light me up inside // Like the Fourth of July // Whenever you’re around // I always seem to smile

Painfully relatable, this one is.

Stereo Hearts || Gym Class Heroes feat. Adam Levine

The music analogies in this one are so fun!

Grenade || Bruno Mars
Should have known you was trouble from the first kiss // Had your eyes wide open // Why were they open?

Content Warning: The devil, grenades and bullets and such, death, technically

The emotion in this song is incredible.

Bad Liar || Imagine Dragons

ACK

Love Is Gone || SLANDER feat. Dylan Matthew
I can’t breathe, I’m so weak, I know this isn’t easy // Don’t tell me that your love is gone

His artist name is SLANDER? Wow, that doesn’t match the song at all. It’s such a raw, emotional song, and the piano is gorgeous.

Death Bed (Coffee For Your Head) || Powfu feat. beabadoobee
I don’t know why this has happened, but I probably deserve it // I tried to do my best, but you know that I’m not perfect

Content Warning: Death

It’s so saddddd

Someone You Loved || Lewis Capaldi
Now the day bleeds // Into nightfall // And you’re not here // To get me through it all

Okay, I understand why this song is so popular. Lewis Capaldi has an incredible voice.

In Case You Don’t Live Forever || Ben Platt
In case you don’t live forever, let me tell you now // I love you more than you’ll ever wrap your head around

SO CUTE EEP

Me and My Broken Heart || Rixton
All I need is a little love in my life // All I need is a little love in the dark // A little but I’m hoping it might kick start // Me and my broken heart

This one’s kind of sadz. But I guess broken hearts are kind of sadz.

And thus concludes the updated version of the Me and Music Tag! Out of my almost 500 song playlist, I included 161 songs, so I guess that’s pretty good. If anyone wants to see the rest of my playlist, you can check it out here.

Also, wow, this post took me weeks to write. I enjoyed it, but hoowee, I’m glad I started so early!

Feel free to do this tag for yourself! I’d love to see some of y’all’s musical tastes!

That’s all!

๐ŸŽต Did you not just read the post?? Listen to one of those songs! ๐ŸŽต

2021 Goal Recap! ~ In Which I Make a New Year’s Wishlist

Ta-da! A New Year’s resolutions post! Actually, it’s more like a wishlist. Hence the title. I’ll be recapping all the goals I made back in February of 2021 (which is also my second most popular post, which is a little crazy ๐Ÿ˜…) and making new goals for 2022! The last time I looked at that post was back in the summer, so it’s been a hot minute.

Now we shall see how well I did! I’m scared and excited. Here we go!

Writing:

1. Reach 50 followers on my blog โœ”

When I made this goal, I was at 32 followers. Now, I am at 68! That’s more than double than what I had before! Thank you guys so much for reading all my crazy ramblings every month. It means a lot! โคโค

2. Complete at least one of my unfinished novels/novellas โŒ

Aw, look at how cute and naive I was at the beginning of the year! I actually thought I could finish the rough draft of one of my novels! Cute little Mia. I didn’t really do that much writing last year. My bad.

3. Post some of my writing on my blog โœ”

Check and check! I posted more than I thought, and I’m pleased with myself. (If you want to read any of it, you can check it out here.)

4. Get back to writing in my journal โœ”

This didn’t really happen until the end of the year, but I have gotten back to regularly writing in my journal. ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ

Reading:

1. Read all the books on my TBR list โŒ

AHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHHAHHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHA–

2. Start taking more book suggestions โœ”โ“

I mean….kind of? Not really sure.

Art:

1. Keep up with my reading journal โŒ

Failed right out of the gate, but I got into bullet journaling again!

2. Draw my characters โŒ

I made moodboards for four of them, which included headshots, but that’s as far as I’ve gotten.

3. Do more canvas painting โŒ

Also no.

Music:

1. Learn ten new songs on the piano โœ”

I bought 11, learned 10, and added about a thousand more to my wishlist. I need a new binder to keep my sheet music in, because the keyboard can’t handle my overly stuffed 2-inch binder. It’s a problem.

2. Compose an orchestral piece โœ”

I think I actually composed three. I’m very proud of all of them, AND one of them is predominantly a piano piece, which is cool.

3. Write 20 lyrical songs โœ”

So, I went and grabbed my current song notebook, thinking that was where my songs from 2021 started, but it turns out they start back in one of my old song notebooks, but I was too lazy to grab that notebook, so I just counted the finished songs in my current notebook, and it came out to exactly 20. I guess I smashed this goal.

I also didn’t count the half-finished songs I have, but if I had, that would have probably pushed the total to 30 XD

4. FINALLY master Canon in D โœ”โ“

I’ve mostly gotten it down. There are a couple little spots that won’t straighten out, but I think that’s the best I’m going to get ๐Ÿ˜…

5. Learn guitar โŒ

I failed this one hardcore. I’ll just have to stick with ukulele.

Personal:

1. Not fail school โœ”

I haven’t flunked anything yet. Yet.

2. Get a job โŒ

I went from two small jobs to none, but I’m hoping to start waitressing or something this year, because, let’s be honest, we all know I need the money XD

3. Become less articulate โœ”

Why. . . . why did I put “less articulate”? I think I meant “less inarticulate” or simply “more articulate”.

If that’s what I meant, then I think I did pretty well with this one. I went from being a sarcastic wallflower to actually initiating conversations with people I wanted to be friends with. It was hard at first, but I have to remind myself that anything embarrassing that I do will be forgotten within a few months and those people probably want me to talk to them as much as I want them to talk to me. Once I got that in my head, talking didn’t seem as daunting.

I mean, to be honest, I am still horribly socially anxious, but I do everything in my power to keep from overthinking anything that happens, and just focus on the good things that happened. If someone wants to mistreat me, that’s their business, and there are dozens of better people I can surround myself with.

4. Get my driverโ€™s license โŒ

Not yet. Maybe this year.

5. Have better relationships with my friends and family โœ”โž•โŒ

I went up on the friend level and down on the family level. Or maybe I just flatlined on the family level. I still talk to them and hang out with them, but besides my oldest sister, I don’t really talk to them all that much.

I hate that I’m becoming the stereotypical, anti-family time teenager.

When it comes to my friends, however, I’ve started making more and asking questions and writing them letters and texting them so I can get to know them on a deeper level. I’ve even made friends with GUYS!!! GUYS!!!!!!! I would have NEVER imagined myself doing that in the past, but somehow it happened. *shrugs*

Well, that recaps all the goals that I set last year for 2021. Now, let’s make some goals for 2022, shall we?

Writing:

1. Reach 100 Followers on My Blog

I’m so close!! I need to get more diligent about publicizing my blog so I’ll have more traffic. And you guys can help too, by sharing my posts with your friends!

2. Finish Plotting My Five-Book Series

I have plotted two and a half books so far, and I have quite a bit to go. Hopefully this will be the year I finish my plot. I’ve been working on it for almost two years!

3. Rejoin YWW

I left the community back in August to focus on school, and I miss it SO BADLY!! I was hoping to rejoin in January, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to. I miss the community and I definitely want to rejoin to help with my writing.

4. Keep Up With My Penpals

I’m starting to wonder if I may have too many penpals because I keep falling behind in my replies. I have two more letters to get done, then I’ll actually be caught up for the first time in months!

Art:

1. Post Two or Three Art Posts This Year

I love sharing my art, and I should have an art post coming out soon! I can’t wait!

2. Keep Up With My Bullet Journal

I’ve been doing pretty good with this so far, and I really hope I can make it through the whole year with my bullet journaling. Who knows, maybe I can even share some of my spreads!

3. Draw My Friends

I think they would appreciate it. Plus, it’s an idea I’ve had for several months.

Music:

1. Learn 10 New Song on the Piano

I’m carrying this one over from last year. I need to put a dent in my wishlist somehow!

2. Write 25 New Songs on Piano or Ukulele

Not just verses and choruses, like I’ve been doing, but full songs with verses, a chorus, chords, all the trimmings.

3. Learn a New Instrument

Yeah, okay, we’ll see if I can actually go through with this one. I would love to learn cello, but cellos are a wee bit expensive, so we shall see.

4. Get Voice Lessons

This is something I’ve been wanting for a couple of years now, but we haven’t really found the right teacher. Hopefully I can find someone and have a few lessons.

Acting:

1. Perform in At Least One Show

Preferably more, but this kind of thing is out of my control. We’ll just see where 2022 takes me!

2. Write a New Play For My Siblings

My sisters have been nagging me about writing them a musical or a play to perform, so I guess I have to write them one. And maybe I can get some pictures of our little “performance” and make a blog post out of it!

3. Learn to Dance

Maybe not like, all the dances, but I am a TERRIBLE dancer, so I need all the practice I can get!

Personal:

1. Meet an Online Friend IRL

There is actually the possibility of this looming on the horizon and I’m ACTUALLY FREAKING OUT!!!! Expect a blog post about it, if it happens.

2. Experiment With Beauty Products

I’ve been toying with the idea of trying out makeup for a little while, and I also thought it might be fun to dye my hair or something. I don’t know. It’s up to my parents, I guess.

3. Get a Job

I have an idea of where I want to work, so maybe over the summer I can start working there! Hopefully. It depends on if they like me or not ๐Ÿ˜…

4. Get My Driver’s License

I NEED THE POWER TO GO TO THE STORE AND GET FOOD!!!

I think those are all the goals I want to achieve. I may come back and add more, but these are what I have for now! I’m so excited to start working towards them.

What do y’all think of my goals? What kind of goals are you working toward this year?

Love,

Me and Music Tag ~ In Which MUSIC

If I had an official songwriting station, it would look like that. Or messier. Probably twice as messy.

Anyways, what’s up folks? As promised in my last post, here I am with a music post! I found this tag on Maya’s blog and then Liesl did it a couple of weeks ago and reminded me how badly I wanted to do it! I’ve been wanting to do it since the end of March, but, you know, awards come first.

I have a three-page-long list of some of my favorite songs (it’s impossible to have all of them. Like holiday songs. I don’t have any of those) that I have been stockpiling for a long time and I am going to attempt to cram them all into this one post.

Something tells me that putting 137 songs in one measly post is going to be a challenge. (And yes, I did just count all of them to get that figure) But, I am going to try my best!

Also, I put the graphics in rainbow order because I am set in the Moriah Elizabeth way of thinking, and plus, who doesn’t love rainbows?

So, let’s get started!!

WARNING: MUCH FANGIRLING AHEAD

The Rules:

  1. Link back to theย originalย post so Sophie can see your answers and listen to the tunes. โœ”
  2. For every prompt you choose to do, name 1-5 songs. (Sorry, but I love way too many songs to be able to stick to this XD)
  3. Have fun and play your music LOUD! โœ”

Aladdin 2019 || Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, and Alan Menken

Speechless sold me on this one. But also, Will Smith’s versions of the songs are just spot-on! And yes, I am not ashamed to say that I have almost the entire soundtrack memorized.

Frozen II || Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez

How could you not love this one? Into the Unknown and Show Yourself topped Let It Go, which many of us (yes, me included) did not think was possible XD And honestly, Kristoff’s song Lost in the Woods was just…..a jam XD I love everything about this soundtrack and each and every song is on my piano music wishlist.

Hamilton || Lin-Manuel Miranda

Honestly, I just….if you know, you know.

Dear Evan Hansen || Benj Pasek and Justin Paul

Same reasons as Hamilton XD

Annie || Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin

When I first listened to the Annie soundtrack, I didn’t think I was going to like it very much. But, it definitely exceeded my expectations, and yes, it’s the hard-knock life for me too, my peeps.

The Greatest Showman || Benj Pasek and Justin Paul

ASKEKKLAKEWLSZI YES JUST YES

Send Me || Lecrae
America ain’t Christian, they just practicin’ the ritual

The first time I ever heard this song, my dad was driving in our neighborhood towards our house. Nothing in the lyrics remind me of home, I’m just reminded of where we were when I heard this song. *shrugs* Brains are weird.

Shine || Newsboys
Shine. // Make ’em wonder whatcha got. // Make ’em wish that they were not // On the outside looking bored

Before I knew this was a Newsboys song, my dad would play it on the piano. I can remember him playing it before we moved to the house we’re at now, and I would jam out to it.

This turned out being a nostalgia section ๐Ÿ˜…

I don’t listen to any of the songs in the secular charts, so I looked up Billboard’s Christian Hits list.

Truth Be Told || Matthew West
But didn’t you say the church should look more like a hospital // A safe place for the sick, the sinner and the scarred and the prodigals

Truth is being told in this song, and I absolutely love it. Matthew West is a talented songwriter, and I should listen to his music more often.

Start Right Here || Casting Crowns
What if the church on Sunday // Was still the church on Monday too?

Another song that tells the truth in a hard but true way. This is one of my favorite Casting Crowns songs, just because it starts with a powerful punch to the Christian conscience.

Church Clap (feat. Trip Lee) || KB
Preach the gospel, and stand back // Look for changed lives not for hand claps

When I went to camp a couple of years ago, there were Church Clap flash mobs everywhere you turned XD I love this song, and honestly, it’s impossible to not dance when it comes on.

Move || MercyMe
I just might bend but I won’t break // As long as I can see Your face

Every time this song comes on, I cannot stop bopping my head up and down! When I’m in a decent place (aka not at my desk XD) I just have to bust a move or two or twelve.

More Doors For Me || elybeatmaker and Grian
A door // For me // Another door for me

Resource Gathering || elybeatmaker and Etho
Listen to my jabbering // About the resource gathering // My never-ending stammering // As I’m resource gathering

Yes, I listen to Hermitcraft remixes and I am not sorry at all XD If you don’t watch the Hermitcraft Minecraft videos you should, because they’re amazing and pretty funny!

More Doors For Me and Resource Gathering are my favorite Hermitcraft remixes and they’re such jams! I can’t help but tap my feet along to the beat!

Horizon || TobyMac
There’s coming a day, coming a day we gonna rise up // We won’t give up the fight

I have actually jumped up and danced along to this song before. In my bedroom where no one could see, but still XD This is my favorite song from TobyMac’s The Elements album, and…..I just love it so much.

Live Out Loud || Group 1 Crew
Give an autograph not because I’m a star // But ’cause a lil’ bit of nice goes far

The beat is just…..something on this song, and I love all the background stuff Manny added towards the end XD Sometimes, Group 1 Crew songs make me laugh, sometimes they make me jam, and sometimes they do both!

Start Somewhere || TobyMac
I said some things that I regret // And if I could, I’d take ’em back // If I could turn my words around // You wouldn’t hear a sound

What genre of music is this song? Whatever it is, I love it XD Toby’s always been good about having a diversity of genres for his albums. And the gunshot at the endddd XD

Brave || Moriah Peters
I know, I know I’m no superwoman // But impossible is possible with You

Moriah Peters’ voice is super strong in this song, and it just makes me want to rock out! Admittedly, this is the only Moriah Peters song I’ve heard so her voice might be strong in other songs, but I digress.

Ill-M-I || TobyMac
Ill-M-I, Ill-M-I, Ill-M-I, Ill-M-I and you // Illuminati comin’ thru

This is….definitely one of the stranger ones of TobyMac’s songs, but I can’t help but tap my toes along to the beat!

Stand By You || Rachel Platten
Oh, tears make kaleidoscopes in your eyes // And hurt, I know you’re hurting but so am I

Yes, I put this on my list instead of Fight Song, and no, you will not see Fight Song anywhere on this list XD I love Fight Song, but Stand By You is my favorite of the two. (Whoa, rhymes)

Concrete || Britt Nicole
‘Cause we found each other // We won’t buckle under // We’ll break the edge of the knife

WARNING: MORE HEAD BOPPING AHEAD (get it? ๐Ÿ˜‚)

I just heard this one for the first time the other day, but it’s going on the list of favorites because I LIKE IT.

Well, that was long. Next category!

Um….๐Ÿ˜…

Yeah, I technically already did this one when I did the first category XD Here are some of my favorites:

Disappear || Dear Evan Hansen
No one should flicker out or have any doubt // That it matters that they are here

Requiem || Dear Evan Hansen
I gave you the world, you threw it away // Leaving these broken pieces behind you

Satisfied || Hamilton
I know my sister like I know my own mind // You will never find anyone as trusting or as kind

Burn || Hamilton
Your sentences border on senseless // And you are paranoid in every paragraph

Aaron Burr, Sir || Hamilton
If you stand for nothing, Burr, what’ll you fall for?

You Will Be Found || Dear Evan Hansen
So let the sun come streaming in // ‘Cause you’ll reach up and you’ll rise again

The Hard-Knock Life || Annie
‘Steada treated // We get tricked // ‘Steada kisses // We get kicked

Speechless || Aladdin 2019
I will take these broken wings // And watch me burn across the sky

Friend Like Me || Aladdin 2019
I got a powerful urge to help you out // So whatcha wish? // I really want to know

Rewrite the Stars || The Greatest Showman
All I want is to fly with you // All I want is to fall with you

Never Enough || The Greatest Showman
Towers of gold are still too little // These hands could hold the world but it’ll // Never be enough

The Other Side || The Greatest Showman
If I were mixed up with you, I’d be the talk of the town // Disgraced and disowned, another one of the clowns

From Now On || The Greatest Showman
Let this promise in me start // Like an anthem in my heart

Show Yourself || Frozen II
Something is familiar // Like a dream, I can reach but not quite hold

When I am Older || Frozen II
‘Cause when you’re older // Absolutely everything makes sense

All is Found || Frozen II
Yes, she will sing to those who’ll hear // And in her song, all magic flows

Made For Me || TobyMac
Well I got white skin and she got brown skin // But milk and coffee’s always been a beautiful blend

This is such a sweet song that Toby wrote for his wife, and I used to listen to it all the time when I was little. It’s still one of my favorites to this day.

Get Back Up || TobyMac
And there’s always scars // When you fall that far

I heard this one before I knew TobyMac’s name. The radio is a magical place when you’re nine-years-old (or younger), and my jaw never fails to drop when I hear a song from the ancient days of my childhood XD

Hall of Fame || The Script
Do it for your people, do it for your pride // How you ever gonna know if you never even try?

I heard a clip of this song in a Disney Jr. commercial (I have younger siblings, okay?), and I had no idea what it was called, and then, to my surprise, it was in a baseball commercial which actually cited the name of the song and the songwriters, so I looked it up and listened to it and promptly fell in love with it! (Plus, it’s so much fun to play on the piano)

Blessings || Laura Story
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise?

I first remember hearing this at my grandmother’s funeral. I was six or seven at the time, and my little mind thought that it was such a beautiful song.

My fifteen year old mind thinks the same thing ๐Ÿ˜…

Does this mean I haven’t matured much?

Probably.

Creeper Rap || Dan Bull
Darling, oh, what you crying for? // Did somebody break your diamond sword?

Yes, I’m sorry, another Minecraft song. I love almost all of Dan Bull’s Minecraft raps, but this one was the first I heard.

Sometimes having Minecraft-obsessed friends is a good thing.

Now that I’ve listened all of the raps, Creeper Rap is probably my least favorite, but still. Memories.

Thrive || Casting Crowns
Joy unspeakable, faith unsinkable // Love unstoppable, anything is possible

We sang this at the end of a homeschool group end-of-the-year program, and I totally forgot about that until my brother reminded me a few weeks ago. I didn’t know this song at all, but I think I managed to do a pretty good job learning as we went XD

Eye of the Storm || Ryan Stevenson
And when the tears of pain and heartache are pouring down my face // I find my peace in Jesus’ Name

Back during Tropical Storm Irma and Hurricane Michael, we had to go hide in the hallway. Whenever that happens, this song is always playing in the back of my mind and helps me be strong for my younger siblings.

In the Light || DC Talk
This only serves to confirm my suspicions // I’m still a man in need of a Savior

Yeah, this song is kind of maybe possibly dated just a little, but, I mean….DC Talk!

DC Talk was definitely before my time and I don’t usually listen to music that old, but there are some songs that I really like for whatever reason. This was the first song that I ever heard by them (Jesus Freak followed soon after), and…..um….I’ve kind of forgotten how to sing anything besides the harmony part XD

Priceless || for KING & COUNTRY
Sisters, we can start again // Give honor to the end, love // We can start again

FOR KING & COUNTRY

City on Our Knees || TobyMac
Tonight’s the night // For the sinners and the saints // Two worlds collide in a beautiful display

Another TobyMac song that I heard on the radio when I was little. There are quite a few of these. Don’t worry, I won’t list all of them XD

But….isn’t this all these songs? I….I don’t understand this one…XD

Yeah, I sing or hum along to every song I know. And I don’t sing terribly, thank you very much XD (I have actually found it very different to sing badly, whether accidentally or on purpose ๐Ÿ˜… Is that a good thing?)

Here are some of the ones I love to sing along to:

Undeniable || TobyMac
Your work doesn’t stop with me // Your signature’s on everything we see // From the hills of Negril, Jamaica // To the kid that the doctor said would never make it

This song is just so beautiful. It’s a reminder that God is in control of everything, and it’s impossible to deny that He exists. I love singing it so much!

iContact || Group 1 Crew
I canโ€™t explain it, the lovely things that You do // Whatever it takes, gotta make eye contact with You

I don’t know too many of the lyrics to this song, but what I do know, I sing along to because of the clever wordplay in places XD I love Group 1 Crew, if you couldn’t tell.

Favorite Song || TobyMac
I’ma leave my selfish melodies // Wanna be in Your beautiful symphony

When I first heard this song, it was stuck in my head for THREE STRAIGHT DAYS. It’s very catchy, and fun to sing!

With You || Jamie Grace
See I misplaced my master plan // Courtesy of my attention span

This song is just a sweet reminder of what’s it’s like to spend some time with God, and it’s catchy, like most of Jamie’s songs.

Alligator Sky (No Rap Version) || Owl City
Remember to live, because you’re gonna be thrilled to death

I loooooove the melody on this one!! Owl City’s songs are always so beautifully written!

Believer || Imagine Dragons
I was chokin’ in the crowd // Building my rain up in the cloud // Falling like ashes to the ground // Hoping my feelings, they would drown

I don’t like the lyrics on this one as much as the rest of the song. (Maybe it’s the songwriter in me, but I rarely pay attention to the lyrics of a song when I first hear it) I do love the chord progression, and this song gets stuck in my head every time I hear it ๐Ÿ˜…

Demons || Imagine Dragons
Don’t get too close, it’s dark inside // It’s where my demons hide, it’s where my demons hide

Content Warning: Mentions of demons, as obviously proved from the title of the song

I love how this song starts with piano and then switches to the dynamic that all of Imagine Dragons’ songs have. And the melody!! Ahh, so pretty!!

Enemy || Newsboys
Who was I to sit and judge? // Always pointing my crooked finger

The melody of the chorus makes this song my absolute favorite Newsboys song! *turns on song and hums along*

He Knows My Name || Francesca Battistelli
I’m not living for applause // I’m already so adored

This is one of the few songs that I paid attention to the lyrics when I first heard it. I think it’s a good reminder that we don’t need to be loved by everyone, because God already loves us.

He Said || Group 1 Crew
Who you are ain’t what your going through // So don’t let it get the best of you

When I first heard this song, I didn’t know who Group 1 Crew was, then I found out and fell in love with their music, and it made me happy to discover that this song was theirs. I love Group 1 Crew so much!!

If We’re Honest || Francesca Battistelli
There is freedom found when we lay our secrets down at the cross

I heard clips of this song in various places until I listened to the whole thing. This is one of my favorite Francesca Battistelli songs.

One Song at a Time || Jamie Grace
We be passin’ out love like the offering’ plates // And we be spreadin’ this joy like it’s jelly or jam

This is one of Jamie Grace’s debut songs and it’s really pretty. I think it also reflects every musician: If you hand them their instrument, they’ll play a tune and sing and dance the whole night through.

Warriors || Imagine Dragons
Here we are, don’t turn away now // We are the warriors that built this town // From dust.

Honestly…..the amount of shouting in this song is ridiculous. I feel like you could kill your voice singing like that.

I still like it though XD

We Live || Superchic(k)
Waking up to another dark morning // People are mourning // The weather in life outside is storming

Content Warning: Death, cancer, general sad things

I think this genre is called Urban Pop? Maybe? Whatever it is, it’s one of my favorites.

Made to Love || TobyMac
I feel a breeze cover me called Jehovah // And Daddy, I’m on my way

This has always been my favorite TobyMac song, and it always will be. Probably. He’s not retired yet XD

It’s a great reminder that we’re here to love and show God’s light.

Hermitgang || Rendog, MajesticTaco, Xisumavoid, Welsknight, ImpulseSV, Docm77, Skellythekid and MumboJumbo
You’re guilty of getting murdered with words // Y’all are out-gunned, go home nerds

Content Warning: This is a diss track, so lots of roasts, mentions of death, and gruesome Minecraft references (that aren’t technically gruesome in the game)

Yes, another Hermitcraft song. This one is not a remix, actually. It’s a song that several of the YouTubers put together themselves, and it’s very well-done. I love rapping along XD

Mumbo AFK || elybeatmaker and Grian
Mumbo Jumbo you are AFK // I’m gonna take that mustache away!

This one is a Hermitcraft remix. Technically, it was just a little ditty that was sung by Grian, a YouTuber, and his fanbase went nuts with it!

It’s a total jam!

Arch-Illager Rap || Dan Bull
You can try assembling a rebellion of adventurers // It’s never gonna bother me, my friend, so don’t pretend it does

Content Warning: This is technically a Minecraft song so there’s a little bit of Minecraft lingo, hypnosis, shunning, burning, and mentions of liquor (but they’re referring to potions. Rhymes are a thing). I promise it’s not as bad as it sounds.

Minecraft Dungeons is such an awesome game, and Dan Bull made sure to make a rap for the boss, the Arch-Illager. This is my favorite out of all his raps, and singing and rapping along is so much fun!

Greater || MercyMe
Bring your doubts // And bring your fears // Bring your hurt // And bring your tears

NOSTALGIA

I don’t remember where I heard this song for the first time, how old I was or anything, but it still sends me on such a nostalgia trip when I hear it!

Go || Hollyn
You must have some magnet in your soul // Pullinโ€™ me away from what I know

Content Warning: This song implies a very unhealthy relationship so interpret that as you will.

It’s the prechorus that sold me on this one. MINOR CHORDS

Work of Art || Britt Nicole
Comparing is poison // That’s killing you and me // The lies of perfection // We ain’t gonna believe

I love Britt Nicole’s voice so much, and she doesn’t disappoint on this song. The melody is absolutely beautiful!!

Normal || Jamie Grace
And I know it’s a little bit 1991 pop song, to say, “Just be yourself” // So call me a 1991 pop song, don’t wanna be nobody else

This is one of Jamie’s more recent songs and OH MY GOODNESS I JUST LOVE IT SO MUCH

If you listen, you’ll understand.

True Colors (Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake version) || Tom Kelly, Billy Steinberg, Justin Timberlake, and Anna Kendrick
Show me a smile then // Don’t be unhappy // Can’t remember when // I last saw you laughing

When we first watched Trolls, we were obsessed with the soundtrack and listened to it all the time! My dad and I used to duet on this song, and it’s so beautiful!

Um….I don’t really listen to old music all that often. I prefer songs with a more modern feel to them. I think the oldest songs I’ve listened to are Disney songs ๐Ÿ˜…

Irene || TobyMac (2001)
You got to reach up to touch rock bottom // The powers that be keep you downtrodden

Content Warning: Implications of a woman pregnant outside of wedlock

This song is from Toby’s first solo album, and it’s my favorite on the album. The Hebrew feel to the chorus is so perfect and I love it so much!

My Friend || DC Talk (1998)
And I remember when you used to say // “Jesus is the way” // I never thought I’d see your light begin to fade

I love the melody of the verses! Up and down and back again, and the guitar adds a lot to it.

River Flows in You (Piano Version) || Yiruma (2001)

I honestly didn’t know this song was this old, because I’ve only been aware of its existence for a couple of years. It’s so pretty and it makes a perfect lullaby!

Yeah, these are the oldest songs on my list ๐Ÿ˜… They’re before my time, so I count them as old XD

God Girl || Jamie Grace
I’m a God girl that’s who I’ll be // From the top of my head to the soles of my feet

I have known this song for quite some time, and I love the message of it. When my sister heard it for the first time, I sang along and she gave me weird looks.

Although, she does that often.

Pigstep || Lena Raine

Yes, this is a real song and don’t you dare try to convince me otherwise.

I’ve been playing Minecraft for almost seven years, and the music never really suited my tastes. I mean, sure, it was nice, and it fit the atmosphere, but it wasn’t the kind of music that I like to listen to. And then, last summer, Mojang added the Pigstep music disc and my world exploded. I love it so much.

Keys to the Kingdom || Group 1 Crew
So many promises You gave // And we just turned and walked away // But now I see the price You paid // Was enough for us to live victorious

I was riding home with my dad after Wednesday night church and we were listening to the TobyMac radio on Pandora. This song came on, and my dad went, “I like me some Group 1 Crew.” I was surprised because I’d never heard any of their songs and yet my dad seemed to know who they were. Curious, I listened to the song and promptly fell in love. I love Group 1 Crew so much.

Beloved || Jordan Feliz
Sometimes a heart can feel like a heavy weight // It pulls you under and you just fall away

I loved this song because of the beat and it was one of my favorites. I listened to it all the time. Then, we left our homeschool group, which was where some of my best friends were, and suddenly, I found myself pretty friendless. My sister was being invited to sleepovers and playdates all the time but my friends never invited me over. I was really disappointed, and I was starting to slip into depression a little bit.

And then, this song came on and took a whole new meaning for me.

Whenever I feel bad, I listen to this song. It doesn’t always cheer me up 100% of the time, but it does chase away some of the storm clouds of life.

Love Feels Like || TobyMac
But in the depths of the trenches // Is the richest of riches // Love is calling us to more

In the aforementioned homeschool group, every week one of the families would do a “family presentation” where they told a little bit about themselves so everyone could get to know them better. Well, one of the families consisted of some massive TobyMac fans, and, for their family presentation, they did a lip sync of this song! It was honestly very well done, and ridiculously funny XD

While You Were Sleeping (Original Christmas Version) || Casting Crowns
United States of America // Looks like another silent night // As we’re sung to sleep by philosophies // That save the trees and kill the children

That line hits hard, doesn’t it? I remember when our church choir performed this song in the Christmas program. I cried.

Thunder || Imagine Dragons

Me and my sisters were playing on our trampoline once, and I was playing a very dramatic character who liked to call lightning from the sky at random times and shout, “LIGHTNING CRACKABOOM THUNDER FIRE DEATH CRACKABOOM” and my sister sang this song whenever I did that XD

Sixteen || Jamie Grace
Bear with me // I’m only sixteen

I’m fifteen but I know what it feels like to have so much pressure on your shoulders as you grow. This song reminds me that I’m only a teenager and I’m blessed to have a family that will take care of me as I learn what it means to live in the real world.

Still That Girl || Britt Nicole
Sometimes life don’t go the way you planned // And we all have days when we just don’t understand

Every time this song comes on, I imagine a “music video” in my head for it. (That’s one of my favorite things to do. You should try it! Imagine characters doing whatever the song says.) I don’t know why, but my “music video” just kind of calms me down.

*shrugs* I’m a strange child.

Better || Britt Nicole
Paper planes in the sky crashing one at a time // Praying that they don’t land where you hide

This song doesn’t have Britt’s usual feel. The accompaniment only has a couple of instruments and it’s really simple, which I love.

Only Jesus || Casting Crowns
But all an empty world can sell is empty dreams

I heard this song in a few TikToks (no, I’m not on TikTok, I watch YouTubers react to TikToks. I will probably never join TikTok *shivers*). I could only hear bits and pieces in the TikToks, and I was kind of curious as to what song it was. And then, this song came on my Pandora radio and I almost fell out of my chair XD

Not the End of Me || Group 1 Crew
Now I’m sitting here feeling so defeated // It’s like you punched my heart, call that a heart beating.

This song is technically about breaking up with a boyfriend/girlfriend, but it also can apply to losing someone you love, whether by argument, car crash, or something else. The chorus is very calming.

Heaven (Fix Things) || Jamie Grace
And I believe, everything that is broken is in Your hands // And You hold the power to turn mountains into sand and You can make a river out of dry land

God won’t always fix things here on earth, but when we get to Heaven, all the pain and hurting will disappear. It’s a good reminder in every scenario.

Live About It (lo-fi) || Jamie Grace
You could call it opposites attract // For a king to live among the pack // Or just call it like it is // The way we need to live

This song squeezed a tear or two out when I first heard it. It’s so pretty and Jamie Grace’s vocals really bring it to life.

You’ll Never Be Alone || Capital Kings
Last week you were sayin’ that somethin’ just ain’t right // Layin’ in your bed stayin’ up all night

This is another song that I’ve come up with a “music video” for. Not going into details, but my “music video” makes me cry sometimes.

I’m Sorry || TobyMac
We overlook the broken // The homeless // And discard the poor // While we celebrate the rich and beautiful // With a wide-open door

Content Warning: This song is about current events soooo…..

*wails*

If you know, you know.

Remember Me (Lullaby Version) || Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez
Know that I’m with you the only way that I can be // Until you’re in my arms again // Remember me

*wails again*

This song is so beautiful, and the context makes it 1000x better.

Giants Fall || Francesca Battistelli
The stones inside your hand might be small // But watch the giants fall

He said to them, โ€œBecause of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, โ€˜Move from here to there,โ€™ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.โ€

Matthew 17:20

Dream Big || Jamie Grace
Just give me a shot, just put me on your stage // I’ll sing, then clean up, and put the chairs away

This song is a reminder to trust the Lord and work hard to make your dreams come true.

Stronger || Mandisa
Hold on and let Him hold your hand // Go on and fall into the arms of Jesus

I don’t listen to Mandisa all that often, but I do like this song. The pain isn’t going to last forever and God is holding you in the palm of His hand. It’s motivation to stay strong and push through the pain and know that God is caring for you every step of the way.

Hero (Red Pill Remix) || Superchic(k)
If we make a choice and be the voice for those who won’t speak up for themselves // How many lives would be saved, changed, and rearranged?

Content Warning: Mentions of suicide, guns, pills, self-harm, and bullying.

The content warnings might turn people off, but this is a great song about standing up for the people who are harming and killing themselves because of the way they’re treated. I prefer the remixed version than the original solely because of the beat.

Believer || Capital Kings
I’m never hidin’ this light away // I am more than a dreamer // I’m a believer

The beat is great on this song, and the lyrics are too. It reminds me to shine for God and bring His light into other people’s lives.

Welcome to the category where Mia dumped everything that didn’t fit in other categories! Enjoy!!

Safe || Britt Nicole
You keep trying to get inside my head // While I keep trying to lose the words you said

Honestly, my favorite part of this song is when the strings slide into the chorus at the end. Chills, every time!!

I am Second || Newsboys
I’m second to One // Redeemer, The Way, The Light

This song is a good reminder that human beings aren’t the ones in charge, and that God is Lord over our lives. Plus, it just sounds so good.

Write Your Story || Francesca Battistelli
I’m an empty page // I’m an open book // Write Your story on my heart

As a writer, these lyrics appeal to me so much XD

Burn for You || TobyMac
I’d rather burn for You than fade away // I’d rather burn for You than go my way!

We should all prefer burning for our Lord and Savior, than going our own way. Light that FIRE in our hearts, Lord!!

Forsaken || Group 1 Crew
But here I stand unbroken // Here with an open heart // And in Your hands I give You all of me // Forgiven with a brand new start

I love the entire chorus on this song, but it’s a little too long to fit ๐Ÿ˜… The lyrics are fantastic and the melody is even better!

Goin Down || Group 1 Crew
The night’s young, you can call it underage.

Maybe it’s just me, but this line is so clever XD Young, underage….metaphors, am I right?

Superheroes || The Script
When you’ve been fighting for it all your life // You’ve been struggling to make things right // That’s how a superhero learns to fly

Not all superheroes get their powers from a nuclear blast. Some get their powers by pushing through the pain and hard times.

Dangerous || Group 1 Crew
I want to live dangerous // Risk it all for You, Lord // I need You to wake me up from // The life I’ve known before

We should all be willing to risk everything for the Lord.

Catchafire (White Rabbit Remix) || TobyMac
Catch a fire let it burn within // Catch a fire let it burn for Him

BURN FOR GOD!! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Higher || Unspoken
Leave me in rags and ruins and I’ll praise You through it // Clothe me in glory and riches, I’ll praise You just the same

Whether God blesses us with more than we could have ever hoped for, or takes everything away, we should always praise Him through it because one day, the things of earth will fall away.

My Life Be Like (feat. TobyMac) || GRITS
I believe there’s a bride that’s stunning // And, I believe in the kingdom coming

God’s kingdom is coming. Whether we like it or not.

Games || Jamie Grace
What’s the deal with us? // Why don’t we show more love? // I don’t understand it // Why we seem so tough? // This ain’t a battleground

This song is about saying no to the drama and games and standing up for what’s right. Love is one of the greatest things we can show for someone.

Hello Future || TobyMac
Hello Jesus // I hope You understand // My last departure was never planned

Sometimes we drift away from Jesus, and it can be hard to come back to Him and apologize. But, once you get it over with, it feels like there’s been a massive load lifted off of your shoulders.

The River || Jordan Feliz
All of my dirt // All of my shame // Drowned in the streams that have made me born again

MORE METAPHORS

Obvious? || Hollyn
Isn’t it obvious? // Lose the disguise, look me in the eyes // Isn’t it obvious?

I don’t know why, but I’ve always loved this line. *shrugs*

Satellites || Capital Kings
Light up a torch // Burning on forever // One flame reborn // Our worlds collide

BURN FOR THE LORD!!!

Ready for Home || Capital Kings
Walkin’ these circles got me comin’ unglued // Gave You my heart and then I stole it from You

Circular reasoning is enough to bring anyone unglued XD

Prayin for You || Lecrae
And matter of fact there’s somethin’ else he’s concealin’ // See, the person that I’ve been prayin’ about is really me

Content Warning: Implication of lust

Yeah, I’ve done this before. Pretended I was praying for someone else when, in reality, I was praying for myself. Sometimes, it helps.

Let’s Go (feat. TobyMac) || Group 1 Crew
And make time // To turn someone’s day bright // And change how we live life (Andale, andale) // The future’s what we make it // So let’s go

The “andales” are my favorite part.

On Your Own || TobyMac
Sometimes you gotta go through // What you gotta go through // Just to think it right through // But you’ll never be // On your own

God will put us through things for unknown reasons, but it’s always a part of His overarching plan.

Stand in the Rain || Superchic(k)
The only way out is through everything she’s running from

Sometimes, the only way to get out of what you’re stuck in is to face it head on.

I don’t usually watch music videos, but here are some that I found in my YouTube history.

21 Years || TobyMac
21 years makes a man full-grown // 21 years, what a beautiful loan // 21 years, I love everyone // Thank you Lord for my beautiful son

Toby wrote this song for his son, Truett, after Tru’s death back in 2019, and I CRY EVERY TIME I HEAR IT!!! This is my favorite music video and when it came to the end and had clips of Tru *sobs*

Gobble Gobble (Official Lyric Video) || Matthew West
Oh my my get that turkey in my belly // Oh my my with the cranberry jelly

Hey, like he says in the song, there aren’t that many songs about Thanksgiving, and this one is fantastic XD My sister was complaining about that last year and I showed her this song and it made her happy XD

Diabolical || Welsknight
You say I’m not the real deal, but what good have you done? // You barely said a thing, and then you claim the battle’s won?

Content Warning: Another diss track. Mentions of murder, arson, and demons kind of? It’s mostly MInecraft speak though.

Having a rap battle with yourself is an interesting idea. *applauds Welknight’s brilliance* And yes, this is another Hermitcraft song. What can I say? I’m obsessed!

Help is on the Way (Maybe Midnight) || TobyMac
Sometimes it’s days // Sometimes it’s years // Some face a lifetime of falling tears

Okay but the story in this three minute video is incredible! I love the way it ends. I love happy endings XD

The Worship Song Song || Random Action Verb Worship
With no instruments // Just the voices // With no instruments // With a key change

Honestly, none of the lyrics make sense without context XD Just watch the video XD

The Wellerman TikTok Sea Chanty Mashup
As far as I’ve heard, the fight’s still on // The line’s not cut, and the whale’s not gone // The Wellerman makes his regular call // To encourage the captain, crew and all

I don’t do sea shanties, but this one is so good!! Occasionally there are these gorgeous gems on TikTok that spill over to YouTube.

I literally cannot get this song out of my head.

Born Again || Newsboys
I didn’t wanna fall // But I don’t have to crawl // I met the One with two scarred hands

When this song first came on, I didn’t like the verses too much. Then, the chorus exploded onto the scene and I fell hard! ๐Ÿ˜

Heart of Stone || Britt Nicole
Crash like broken glass shattered on the floor // Finally a victory I’ve never felt before

The beginning of this song was pretty strange, but the more I listen, the more it grows on me.

Dance Monkey || Tones and I
Just like a monkey I’ve been dancing my whole life // But you just beg to see me dance just one more time

The title caught me off guard, but I do really enjoy this song. So many fantastic remixes!!

Headphones || Britt Nicole
Her mom says she’s great // The kids think she’s weird // Honestly she wish she could disappear

One of my friends said she didn’t really enjoy this song, so I listened to it to see why she didn’t like it. I’m still not sure why she doesn’t like it.

Holiday (MyKidBrother Remix) || Britt Nicole
No more drama to mess up my flow // No more questions to answer, no

The siren sounds at the beginning are….odd to say the least, but I like the tune XD

Ignition (Hot Wired Remix) || TobyMac
So don’t blink when you wanna come cross the border // Take a look around or come test the water

The original Ignition wasn’t my favorite but I absolutely love the differences in this one!! Plus, that piano in the last chorus is gorgeous!!

Gotta Go || TobyMac
Tobymac can’t get to the phone // Please leave a message after the tone

I didn’t like this song at first, but it’s growing on me. Plus, little Tru!! So precious!!

Keep Goin’ (feat. Capital Kings) || Group 1 Crew
Goin’ goin’ goin’ goin’ // I recommend, don’t follow no trend

This is one of the newer Group 1 Crew songs, written after Blanca left the group. I wasn’t sure if it would be that great, but I was not disappointed!! Ahh, I love Group 1 Crew so much!!!

Gold || Owl City
I don’t need the stars in the night // I found my treasure

Guys. I am so obsessed with this song. I’ve been listening to it for the majority of this blog post. It matches two of my characters so well and GAH I love it so much!! Plus, Adam Young’s voice is really unique. It adds a beautiful color to the tune.

The Bees are Coming || elybeatmaker and Cubfan
The bees are coming // The bees!

Dibby Dibby Diamonds || elybeatmaker and Grian
Dibby dibby diamonds // Good luck remixing that one!

Dragon Bros || elybeatmaker and Iskall85
Chick-chica chica chica dragon bros!

Guinea Pig Dance || elybeatmaker and Grian
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo // Guinea Pig Dance!

Okay, may as well dump the last of these songs here XD Seriously, Hermitcraft remixes are the best!!

Way Beyond Myself || Newsboys
Like the wind that moves the leaves // Lord, You move me to my knees // Even into something way beyond myself

This one reminds me of Born Again, but….better. Don’t question me. I’m weird.

Stories (Down to the Bottom) || TobyMac
We’ve been down to the bottom // Stories we got ’em, when we hit rock bottom

The tune is the main reason I love this song.

Let it Roll || Group 1 Crew
Feel the rhythm in your soul // And all your worries, let them go

This song is so unbelievably upbeat, and always energizes me!! Plus, it feels so different in several places. It really adds to the song!

This category is a mix of Christian love, God’s love and romantic love.

His Kind of Love (Capital Kings Remix) || Group 1 Crew
Tell me what kind of God would choose to save // The bruised, the broken, the sinners, the runaways

What kind of God would choose to save such horrible sinners? God’s love is incredible.

I prefer the remixed version of this song to the original because I really enjoy Capital Kings’ songwriting style.

Nothin’ on You || Hollyn
Might have a million dollars in the bank // Thirty cars with the yacht on the lake // Just ’cause you got it don’t mean you gotta flaunt it // He’s the one who paid the price, yeah, He got it

The love of Jesus trumps the love of any guy here on earth. *shakes finger* Remember that, you little whippersnappers.

๐Ÿ˜‚ I’m such a nut!

Bella || Jamie Grace
When You call me Your bella // I know I’m Your mija

Spanish! I love Spanish, and it fits so well in this song!!

Only Love || Jordan Feliz
Someone say amen // If you know what I’m talking about

AMEN

One of a Kind || Jamie Grace
To You I’m not as crazy as I think

I am as crazy as I think, but God loves me anyway! (Thank goodness!)

I’ll Wait || The Strumbellas
I’ll wait, I’ll wait to be the one // To catch you when you’re falling

Liesl just introduced me to this song today, and I love it!! The tune and the lyrics work together so well!!

Is….is that really the end?

*wipes brow* Guys, this post took me four days to write. I loved every second, but….yeesh XD

If you want to take on this tag for yourself, I’d love to see it! I really enjoyed raving about all of these songs!!

Do you know any of these songs? Which ones are your favorites?

Thanks for sitting through this entire post ๐Ÿ˜…

My Favorite Christmas Songs!! ~ In Which There Is Much Fangirling (You’ve Been Warned)

Hello everybody!! We are officially in advent, and I am so super-duper stinkin’ excited! Christmas is my favorite time of year, because of the holiday, the presents, the smells, the decorations, the fellowshipping, and, of course, the music! In fact, I’ve been wearing a Santa hat since Thanksgiving, that’s how excited I am! XD

A lot of people are setting up their Christmas playlists and breaking out the Christmas CDs (or is that just me? ๐Ÿ˜… CDs are so outdated…), so I thought I would fill you guys in on some of my favorite Christmas songs!

Traditional

Traditional carols are so much fun to listen to, especially if you can find the perfect rendition of them! Here’s a list of ten of my favorite traditional carols:

10. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

I love this song because of how fun it is!! Every year, my dad records the Christmas specials, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is always one of them! (It’s actually recorded as I’m writing this!)

Sometimes, I’ll be walking around the house, just casually humming it under my breath, and the entire family joins in! And the little extra parts in between lines? Hilarious!

Another reason this song is so special, is that I danced to it when I was little. When I was six, I took dance lessons, and one song we danced to was Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. I still remember one or two of the moves.

9. Jingle Bells

I’ve heard so many fun renditions of this song! And, I mean, how could you not like it? It’s peppy and fun, and it’s been around for so long, it’s practically the foundation of society, am I right?

‘Nuff said. Next!

8. Away in a Manger

This is such a beautifully written lullaby, and I’ve been singing it in Christmas programs since I was five or six. It’s always been special to me, in voice and message. How could you not love a song that is a lullaby to baby Jesus?

And, a Christmas lullaby? Yes, gimme!!

7. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

This song just sounds amazing when sung by a baritone quartet! And, I absolutely love songs in minor keys, which pushes this one towards the top.

Plus, the VeggieTales rendition in Merry Larry and the Light of Christmas is gold.

โ€œGod rest ye merry gentlemen, your undies on display…โ€

๐Ÿคฃ Honestly, I just can’t XD

6. Silent Night

I like this one for much of the reasons I listed under Away in a Manger. This song is so beautiful, and the stuff you can do on the piano with it is amazing. The melody is just stunning!

5. Fรจliz Navidad

I’m also a huge fan of Latin music. There’s just something about the beat that gets me every time! So, obviously, Fรจliz Navidad is going to find its way onto this list. There’s just something about Mexico that I find charming.

I should go there one day.

Anyways, Fรจliz Navidad is spirited and jaunty, and who wouldn’t want to wish their friends and family a merry Christmas? *shrugs* Kind of a no-brainer.

4. We Three Kings

Is this song in a minor key? I think it is. But then it blossoms into major, and *squeals*

It’s just so beautiful! Plus, it’s super fun to sing and play on any instrument.

3. Carol of the Bells

I don’t know what it is about this song that I like so much. I’m still yet to learn all the lyrics (if anyone knows them all, I’d be delighted to chat haha), and I think that may be the case. I like a challenge (usually), and I just haven’t taken the time to Google the lyrics.

Plus, I’ve heard countless instrumental versions, and they give me chills every time! Plus, the Pentatonix version is just *chef kiss* fantastique!

2. What Child Is This

This one earns second place solely for one specific chord progression in the middle. When you sing โ€œThis, this is Christ the Kingโ€, the chords change from C to G, and that gets me EVERY. TIME. So beautiful!

Sorry. I’m a total music nerd.

1. O Holy Night

This one takes the cake. Aagh, it’s so pretty!! I can’t even begin to describe this song. Just know that it’s number one on my list.

Contemporary

Of course, my playlist isn’t complete without some contemporary Christmas songs! These are my top ten (although it was so hard to choose!!)

NOTE: These are songs that are originals by the artists listed. Not versions of traditional carols. Completely original.

10. Bring On the Holidays by tobyMac

I LOVE tobyMac. I was literally raised on his music, and I’m a humongous fan. (It’s my dream to see him live one day!) Obviously, this list would not be complete without one of his songs.

I really like this song, mostly because of the background track. As someone who has dabbled in music a little bit, I’m impressed at how perfect Toby’s songs are. And, I mean, this song is basically saying how great the Christmas season is, and I couldn’t agree more!!

Sing it, Toby!

9. Christmas Is Beautiful by Shelly E. Johnson

I feel like Shelly doesn’t get as much recognition as she deserves. She’s a talented artist, and, since I’ve met her in person (sorry, weird flex), I can say with verification that she is sweet and kind. I love this song because it’s so light-hearted and jazzy! Plus, it’s super fun to play and sing!

Seriously, guys, go check her out! Her music is awesome, and I just love her voice!

8. Light of Christmas by tobyMac feat. Owl City

Yep, another tobyMac song. What did I tell you? I love his music! Plus, this song features Owl City, another artist I love.

This song is about the kindness and care that we should show to people, as we proclaim what Jesus did for us. Plus, the beattttttt

Ah, so good!!

7. I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day by Casting Crowns

Casting Crowns has some pretty powerful Christmas music, if I must say. I know this song is a remix, but it’s so good, I had to include it!

I first heard this song when my church choir performed it for our annual Christmas concert. It’s always held a special place in my heart, just because it’s so pretty, and nothing like the original hymn it’s based on. Plus, the choir version is fun, because the women and men chase each other around at the end. (Vocally, not literally ๐Ÿ˜‰)

6. Gift of Love by Shelly E. Johnson feat. Seth Condrey

Another Shelly song!

I really love this one, simply because the chord progression is my favorite! (Yes, I have a favorite chord progression. Music nerd, remember?) Plus, it’s a lullaby. LULLABIESSSSSS

I love me some lullabies.

This song is so beautiful, as it tells the story of Jesus. And the harmonies are just spot on!

Okay, moving on.

5. Wizards in Winter by Trans-Siberian Orchestra

This is just an instrumental piece, but it’s still great, nonetheless. Not necessarily Christmas, but since it’s in a Christmas album, I’ll count it.

Just listen, and be enveloped by the magical greatness. I mean, I don’t like rock music, but this takes the cake. Plus, my sisters love to jam out in the craziest ways possible. (My family is weird)

Since I’m a pianist, I can fully appreciate the talent of, not only the incredible pianist, but the electric guitarist, and the others. Just imagine the amount of skill and practice it took to play this song! For three incredibly long minutes!

My mind is blown.

4. O Come All Ye Faithful by tobyMac

Okay, again, I know that this isn’t an original song, but I feel that it’s different enough to make this list. Plus, tobyMac.

I mean, c’mon guys. He’s great.

I love this song because, I mean, O Come All Ye Faithful was already a pretty great song, and then Toby made it ten times better.

Toby gets a gold star!

3. Christmas Canon by Trans-Siberian Orchestra

OKAY, CAN I JUST TAKE A MINUTE TO FANGIRL???

Because I haven’t been doing that already…..

I flippin’ LOVE Pachelbel’s Canon in D. It’s the very first song my piano teacher assigned to me, and it’s just so beautiful. How could you not love it? Then, someone makes a Christmas version of it, and adds some absolutely gorgeous and well-sung vocals, and my fangirl side shoots through the roof.

If you haven’t listened, I highly recommend you do. You will not be disappointed, my friend.

2. A Baby Changes Everything by Faith Hill

I have no words for this one.

Just listen. You’ll love it.

The message is so deep.

1. While You Were Sleeping by Casting Crowns

*bursts into tears*

This song is so convicting, and my heart can’t take it! I legit start ugly crying when I hear it. I first heard it as a choir song, and I just……

*melts*

I think I’ll go listen to it.

So! There’s my list of my favorite Christmas songs! If you haven’t listened to them, I definitely recommend them (if you couldn’t get that from the intense fangirling)!

Let me know what you think!
