A new Alpine Space cooperation has officially begun! On July 2026, partners of the SUPER project met in Dornbirn, Austria, to kick off three years of collaboration focused on making energy planning easier, smarter and more practical for municipalities.
Hosted by the Energy Institute Vorarlberg, the two-day meeting brought the project partnership together for the first time to shape a common vision and turn the SUPER idea into action.
At the heart of the discussions was a simple question: How can municipalities make better use of the energy data and digital tools they already have?
Partners presented existing tools and approaches from across the Alpine region and explored how they could be better connected to support everyday municipal work. The discussions covered energy management, long-term renovation planning, renewable energy development and the potential of artificial intelligence to support data processing and decision-making.
But SUPER is not only about technology. The project will work closely with municipalities through Living Labs, ensuring that the solutions developed respond to real needs, different levels of digital readiness and the practical challenges faced by local administrations. The SUPER framework will be tested in municipalities across the Alpine region, helping to turn data into better energy decisions.
The kick-off also took the partnership outside the meeting room. Visits to the municipalities of Egg and Lustenau offered a first-hand look at the challenges behind energy-efficient renovation, renewable energy planning and the management of public buildings.
The first meeting set the direction for the work ahead – and one message was clear: it is time to move from planning to practical action.
Over the next three years, SUPER will bring together municipalities, energy experts and researchers from across the Alpine region to develop and test solutions that can make the local energy transition more manageable.
