From the very first day we crossed paths in college, I felt deep down that this was the person I wanted to share the rest of my life with. A couple of years later, we made the decision to embark on our professional journey together. From farrier work with horses to catering, and eventually into pre-press with the early MacIntosh computers, we navigated the highs and lows of our careers while always finding excitement in each moment. Soon, people began calling us the inseparables. Despite spending nearly every waking hour together, we had remarkably few disagreements, as any tensions were quickly dissolved by our shared sense of humor and mutual respect.
Sadly, this special person left this world far too soon. Though we were blessed with children who help to fill that empty space, not a day goes by without a thought for that extraordinary person.
For this project, I chose lovebirds as a symbol of lifelong companionship. The vibrant red signifies love, while the teardrop shape in the center, with its intentional gaps is obvious and intentional. Walnut was chosen for its solidity and warmth, embodying the strength of the relationship we shared. To add another layer of meaning, the project is shielded by an invisible layer, representing a protection for the heart.
Feel free to change the quote and symbol to suit your needs, using the settings supplied. The acrylic protection and stand offs are not necessary but I found this meaningful and esthetically appealing.
Further suggestions can be found in the free downloadable file.
The idea is original. The lovebirds were ai generated with atomm.
From the first day our paths crossed in college, I felt deep down that this was the person I wanted to share with for the rest of my life. A few years later, we made the decision to embark on a professional adventure together. From farrier work with horses to restoration, and finally to prepress with the first MacIntosh computers, we've gone through the ups and downs of our careers while always finding excitement in every moment. Very quickly, people started calling us "the inseparables". Even though we spent most of our time together, we had remarkably few disagreements, as our tensions were quickly dissipated by our shared sense of humor and mutual respect.
Unfortunately, this special person left this world far too soon. Even though we were fortunate to have children who help fill that void, not a day goes by that I don't think of this amazing person.
For this project, I chose lovebirds as a symbol of a companion for life. The bright red symbolizes love, while the teardrop shape in the center, with its intentional spaces, is obvious and deliberate. Walnut was chosen for its strength and warmth, embodying the strength of the relationship we shared. To add another layer of meaning, the project is protected by an invisible layer, representing a protection for the heart.
Feel free to change the quote and symbol as needed, using the parameters provided. Acrylic protection and brackets are not necessary, but I found them meaningful and aesthetically appealing.
Further suggestions are available in the project file.

The first step after optional protection for cut lines (tape for wood, washing up liquid for acrylic), is to cut out all the pieces. Immediately after cutting the clear acrylic I protect it with cling film to avoid any scratching. TEST the size of the holes of the acrylic layer with the chosen stand offs BEFORE cutting (do a cut test).
If opting for cutting out the lovebirds and inspirational text, make sure to collect the pieces in separate paper cups or plates immediately after cutting to avoid loss of pieces.
Optional engraving settings and suggestions are in the included file for download.
Leave the adhesive backing on the cork backing until ready for use.

Leave the adhesive backing on the cork back until you are ready to use it.

Sand all wood until smooth for best results. Only sand the front sides and leave the back rough for gluing.
Spray paint the smaller heart and detail with primer followed by two coats of color. Leave to thoroughly dry overnight.
Oil the walnut heart.
The next day, assemble the wooden pieces together with wood glue and stick the cork backing to the back of the walnut heart. You can use wood glue or cork with an adhesive backing. At this point you can add a hook for wall hanging.
Before starting the next step, take a deep breath and gather your patience ;) You can use a weeding tool (sharp pointed needle type tool - I use a leather sewing awl, your nails to remove the backing and then push the letter firmly in place with a rounded headed tool - see photos).
Remove the backing of the text letter by letter and use the original cut out acrylic as a guide for the text. Remove the backing of the lovebirds which should cut out in nearly one piece, and place firmly on the painted board left hand side.
Leave the pieces to bond a couple of hours before applying any pressure.
Sand all the wood until it is smooth for the best result. Only sand the front sides and leave the back rough for gluing.
Spray paint the little heart and details with a primer, then apply two coats of color. Let dry completely overnight.
Oil the walnut heart.
The next day, assemble the wooden pieces using wood glue and glue the cork backing to the back of the walnut heart. You can use wood glue or cork with an adhesive backing. At this point, you can add a hook to hang the heart on the wall.
Before you take the next step, take a deep breath and arm yourself with patience;) You can use a weeding tool (a sharp needle-type tool - I use a leather punch, your nails to remove the backing, and then press the letter in tightly using a round-head tool - see photos).
Remove the support letter by letter and use the originally cut acrylic as a guide for the text. Remove the support from the lovebirds, which should cut into one piece, and place them firmly on the left side of the painted panel.
Allow the parts to stick together for a few hours before applying pressure.

Mount the stand offs and clear acrylic to the assembled base. Protect with a lint free cloth or film if totally dry until use or gifting.
Fixez les entretoises et l'acrylique transparent à la base assemblée. Protégez avec un chiffon non pelucheux ou un film plastique jusqu'à ce que le produit soit complètement sec avant de l'utiliser ou de l'offrir.
