V&A Museums. Easy access to trains for day trips. Great pubs with reasonable priced meals. Loved the markets not the crowds so much. Atch your purse at markets. Don't go during school holidays. Lots of eclectic little shops to find the unusual. Don't stay near a football ground on a Saturday, bosun's and drunks everywhere. The Zoo was extremely disappointing needs a cash injection.

I really wanted to post, as a way of countering the negative publicity from certain quarters around London. I am not a Londoner - but was born and brought up on the periphery of London and still visit very frequently for work and occasionally for pleasure. I also frequent cities across Europe, so have direct comparisons. London is like any city, there are things that one has to be careful about but I'd say that it is not the war-zone that it is often depicted as. It's a bustling, lively, busy but over-archingly safe city - I have never, in my 40-odd adult years of visiting all parts of the city, felt in the least threatened or unsafe - I have worked in some of the more deprived areas of London and even there, being solo after dark for me has never bred any fear, or the need to take any precaution I would not take anywhere else. Public transport is excellent. While the "speed" of the city is in contrast to where I live in the UK, I don't think I have experienced rudeness at any stage, which is more than I can say for one or two cities with a high tourist / transient population elsewhere in Europe. I'd strongly recommend it as a place to visit for it's history, it's modern culture and the access it affords to the rest of the UK.

London is truly a must visit Tourist City, with a lot of history and lovely ancient architecture. The Hop on Hop Off buses, truly make visiting the tourist sites very convenient. Not to mention the audio commentary, that gives a brief ode to these places and a lot of witty trivia. Loved the St. Pauls Cathedral, London Tower, Hyde Park, Covent Garden Did a day tour to the Windsor, which gave a wonderful feel of the countryside, royalty and history.

I have been to London many times, so have seen most of the tourist highlights. This trip, we just wandered and enjoyed the incredible parks and discovering all the little side streets and treats. We walked from Southbank to Notting Hill and the Portobello Markets, loving the fresh air and spaciousness of the parks - incredible to have such green in a huge city!
