We know that moving to a new location to serve for a year can feel daunting! The BVS staff are committed to supporting you through your volunteer year. We do this through:
- One-on-one meetings with staff during the placement process to help choose your project
- A 9-day in-person orientation with fellow volunteers who are also preparing for their year of service
- Monthly support calls with other volunteers and BVS staff
- One-on-one calls with BVS staff throughout your year of service
- BVS staff available by phone in case of emergency
- Special Older Adult service options
- Health insurance through Catholic Volunteer Network, free of charge
- 5-day mid-year retreat for volunteers in the U.S.
Brethren Volunteer Service is a unique service organization due to our focus on personal relationships with volunteers and individualized support.
Each volunteer will have a unique experience at their project. Once you’ve begun your service, your main support system will be the relationships you build with other people at your project site. The staff at your project site will be there to welcome you! They will pick you up from the airport, get you situated at your new home, help you adjust to a new location, onboard you at your project site, and be there for you on a daily basis.
