Common Sense for Little Downham - Reclassify Land as a Residential Garden
Important Update: Planning Appeal Hearing Scheduled for 10 February 2026

We're writing to share significant news about our appeal regarding the residential curtilage classification of our garden in Little Downham.

The Planning Inspector has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday, 10 February 2026.

What is a Hearing?

A hearing is a structured discussion led by the Planning Inspector. Unlike a formal inquiry, it's a more informal setting where the Inspector guides the conversation, asks questions, and explores the key issues in the appeal. This format allows for a thorough examination of why our family garden should be correctly recognized as residential curtilage rather than agricultural land.

Can You Attend?

Interested parties can attend the hearing if the Inspector allows it – and the Inspector will usually allow this. If you've signed this petition and want to show your support in person, you'll typically be welcome to observe the proceedings. This is an opportunity for the community to see the planning process in action.

Why This Matters:

This hearing will address the fundamental issue: our land is physically connected to our house, has been in single ownership since the 1800s, and functions as our family garden. Your 270+ signatures demonstrate that this isn't just about one family – it's about fair and consistent planning decisions for everyone in Little Downham!

How You Can Continue to Help:

  • Keep sharing this petition – every signature strengthens the case
  • Spread the word to neighbours and friends who understand the importance of common-sense planning
  • Consider attending the hearing to show community support (details will be confirmed closer to the date)

Thank you for standing with us. Together, we're making the case for fairness and proper governance in our community.

We'll share further updates as the hearing approaches.

I am currently claiming PIP and use my PIP money to help pay for a carer. In the next 12 months or so I expect to receive a review letter/form from the DWP. I am worried that if this new pointing system is implemented and the DWP decide that I don't qualify, what is going to happen to me? I suffer from ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, Raynauds Disease, and Arthritis amongst other things. All this stress and worry doesn't help my conditions. The thought of having to fill in the claim form is bad enough, let alone if I then had to appeal yet again. But if I had to, I would!!
Gina supported: STOP the new 4 point PIP rule
I receive PIP after having to give up work in my 50’s due to ill health. It’s a lifeline for so many of disabled people . Not a community I wanted or thought I would ever join as I had previously had good health and worked full time. Like most people I took my health for granted. It’s not until you become too ill to work and have to rely on benefits just how degrading the whole process is. PIP is the most degrading process I have ever had to go through
Deborah supported: STOP the new 4 point PIP rule
This petition is important to those of us who struggle to maintain independence on a daily basis in the face of chronic health problems, we deserve the right to be treated with dignity.
roni supported: STOP the new 4 point PIP rule
I am in receipt of PIP and UC. I have worked all my life but in 2017 I was diagnosed with a chronic illness. I now have 7 chronic illnesses and can no longer work. To strip me or anyone else of our payments when we already have enough to contend with on a daily basis is wrong and it's cruel. No one chooses to be sick, no one chooses to have mental Health issues. It's unacceptable that we should be further punished due to the fact we are sick. This government has deliberately targeted the elderly, the sick and the most vulnerable whilst inserting a new payrise for themselves. Its an absolute disgrace, why do we the people not matter anymore to this country? Its shameful and I am embarrassed about how badly run this country is. I care about this causes deeply because if we have enough money to give away in foreign aid and on illegals arriving on our shores every day then we should have enough to prioritise our elderly and sick people.
Kelly supported: Reform the Recent Changes to Disability Benefits
I am a benefits adviser working for a charity, I am appalled at these cuts to welfare for sick & disabled people, not just PIP but the sickness benefits too. These changes will plunge people into even greater poverty, increased health crisis & homelessness. It’s devastating for people already struggling with so many challenges, I am truly shocked that this is a Labour Gov
Sara supported: Reform the Recent Changes to Disability Benefits
Although I am a life long Labour member, I completely disagree with these PIP reforms, I receive these payments and struggled very hard against a Conservative government that did it's utmost to prevent me getting it. I cannot believe a Labour government is doing this. Instead of looking at cuts to the vulnerable Close the tax loopholes and make the rich pay their share of the tax burden.
