Have you ever felt like greeting the day as if you were Barbie throwing your doors open to a world bustling with people living ideal lives on a pink beach next to a turquoise sea? Well, if so, Coral Sands Inn & Cottages is for you. This property on Harbour Island in the Bahamas is set on a stretch of beach where the sand is colored pink by a mixture of pulverised coral, tiny red-tinted shells, and foraminifera. A recent redesign of the interiors, unveiled in December 2024, revealed a charming seaside aesthetic: Seashell details are everywhere (7,000 in the restaurant alone), and canopies with wildflower prints are hung over four-poster beds. Days can be spent at the beach bar by the turquoise sea, drinking frosé and eating conch fritters. Begin your evenings with a Pink Mermaid cocktail and then, perhaps, see Harbour Island itself, with its wild chickens and lovely locally owned restaurants. Travellers who want to feel like they’re summering at a friend’s beachfront estate will thoroughly appreciate the laid-back vibe of the Potlatch Club on the isle of Eleuthera. The lush property has only 11 keys on 12 acres, a seamless service team who’ve worked together for more than 20 years at other hotels, and a cluster of storied structures, some of which date back to 1923. In the 1950s, after the property was purchased by a trio of socialites, it became a private hideaway for celebrities like Paul McCartney, who honeymooned here with Linda in 1969. Current owners Bruce Loshusan and his business partner Hans Febles began work on the resort in 2016; Loshusan recruited Nassau-based interior designer Amanda Lindroth to help produce the dreamy, relaxed atmosphere that encompasses what people find enchanting about island life: white shiplap ceilings, pink coral stone floors that extend to the bathrooms, and cosy wooden porches with rattan daybeds and chairs. There’s a feeling of coming home at Eleven Bahama House, with just 11 rooms, this place feels innately yours, if home was a pristine, magazine-worthy beach house. Dating back to the 1800s, the hotel was previously a B&B (supposedly renown for its new year’s eve shenanigans) and now under the helm of Eleven – best known for Deplar Farm in Iceland – its had a stylish reincarnation, mixing historical charm with seaside chic. Think vintage rattan furniture, four-poster beds, grass cloth wallpaper with zingy pops of corals, sea shells and pineapple decor. Rooms are set within low-slung buildings dotted round a central pool with its own tiki bar (which just so happens to be one of the best stocked rum bars on the island) where you’ll want to sip on a Goombay Smash cocktail (shaken up using aged Jamaican rum and homemade coconut rum and apricot liqueur). Enjoy toes-in-the-sand days lazing on a teak sitting chair gazing at that iridescent water or zipping along the coastline onboard the hotel’s private Scorpion rib boat fishing for bonefish on the saltwater flats. Guests can take over the entire place for a raucous seaside getaway too, with accommodation for up to 22.
