The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) was an exhibitor at the Women in STEM Africa Summit 2026 which took place on 3-4 September 2026 at Kenyatta International Convention Center (KICC) in Nairobi. Under the theme “Uncovering Talent. Powering Innovation. The summit, Shaping Africa’s Future, convened politicians, technology leaders, academics, entrepreneurs, innovators and young STEM talent to discuss ways to advance Africa’s place in the global innovation economy.

Artificial intelligence is no longer a distant prospect for Kenyan Universities. It is already changing the way students learn, professors teach, researchers study, and institutions provide services. The challenge for Kenya's higher education industry is no longer whether AI will disrupt institutions, but rather how Kenya will shape that transition. This question was fundamental to the National Policy Dialog on the Development of an Artificial Intelligence Framework for Higher Education in Kenya, which was held from August 18 to 20, 2026, at the CBK Institute of Monetary Studies in Ruaraka, Nairobi. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Commission for University Education (CUE) co-sponsored the three-day dialog, which brought together representatives from CUE, the Ministry of Higher Education, universities, DAAD, the UbuntuNet Alliance, and other stakeholders to discuss the opportunities, risks, and policy implications of AI in higher education.
