On the 2nd of September, the Committee on Public Health will hold an exchange of views in the series ‘Excellence in Health Science’ dedicated to the topic of childhood cancer to raise the necessary attention to this important topic.

World Hepatitis Day raises awareness of viral hepatitis, a major cause of liver disease and liver cancer. Around 287 million people live with chronic hepatitis B, while hepatitis B and C cause 1.3 million deaths per year and 6,000 new infections every day.

World Drowning Prevention Day raises awareness of drowning, a major yet preventable public health issue that claims around 236,000 lives each year. Children and young people are among the most affected, and over 90% of drowning deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries.

At SANT meeting of 13th of July, Members held an exchange of views in the series ‘Excellence in health science’ with Ronja Dirscherl, Head of Partnerships of Triple P Europe, on promoting youth mental health and healthy behaviours in Europe.

At the meeting of 13 July, experts presented the EPRS study on 'Mental health of young people in a digital era: Cost of non-Europe report'. The study examines the societal and individual impacts of youth mental health issues in the EU, highlighting the potential benefits of coordinated action to address these challenges, and thereby reducing the "cost of non-Europe".
