Hearings
A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. The Joint LIBE-PETI public hearing ‘Border checks and the future of the Schengen area’, based on Petitions 0585/2023 and 0509/2024, focuses on the evolution of the Schengen Area, recent amendments to the Schengen Borders Code and the impact of the reintroduction of internal border controls.

In accordance with Article 53 of Regulation (EU) no 2018/1725 (Data Protection Regulation for EU Institutions) “[t]he European Parliament and the Council shall appoint the European Data Protection Supervisor by common accord for a term of five years, on the basis of a list drawn up by the Commission following a public call for candidates. [...] The list of candidates drawn up by the Commission shall be public and shall consist of at least three candidates".
On 13 January 2025, from 16:00 to 17:15, the FISC Subcommittee will host a public hearing on the impact of taxation on gender equality in the European Union. The hearing is organized in the context of the European Parliament’s Gender Equality Week 2024, which took place from 2 to 5 December 2025.
