Welcome message from the D-CA Chair
We share common values such as democracy, rules of law, respect of human rights and gender equality. We stand firm in our support for the rules-based international order and are ready to defend it at this moment of geopolitical instability.
The EU-Canada Comprehensive and Economic Trade Agreement and Strategic Partnership Agreement provide a framework for a further deepening of our policy dialogue, cooperation and convergence on issues of common concern. Through parliamentary democracy we will work with the Member States that have not yet ratified the Agreement to complete the ratification process.
We have a key role to play in enhancing EU-Canada relations. Interparliamentary meetings with our Canadian counterparts take place once a year and give an opportunity to exchange on a wide range of topics - trade, security and defence, energy security and critical raw material, foreign interference and artificial intelligence.
On 13 January 2026, participants of the Parliamentary Internship Programme of the Parliament of Canada visited the European Parliament. Their visit included a meeting with the Chair of the Delegation for relations with Canada (D-CA), Mr Javier Moreno Sánchez. The participants were particularly keen to learn about the role of the D-CA, how EU-Canada relations can be further deepened, as well as about Mr Moreno's experience in the European Parliament as a Member.
The 43rd EU–Canada Interparliamentary Meeting (IPM) took place in Ottawa on 27–28 October 2025. Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and the Canadian Parliament discussed key issues in EU–Canada relations, including trade, energy, security and defence cooperation, and the responsible governance of artificial intelligence. A joint statement was signed at the end of the IPM reaffirming the strong will to enhance the EU-Canada partnership.
At its meeting of 20 November 2025, the Delegation for Relations with Canada had the great pleasure of hosting Mr John Hannaford, the Canadian Prime Minister's Personal Representative to the EU. The meeting provided Members with an opportunity to exchange views with Mr Hannaford on the follow-up to the EU-Canada 2025 Summit with a focus on trade and defence.
