DEEA receives Greenlandic delegation to discuss Greenland's sovereignty and security

In a context of an escalating Arctic security crisis and heightened tensions, a DEEA delegation including DEEA Chair Andreas SCHWAB, DEEA Vice-Chair Christophe GRUDLER and DEEA member/Vice-President for the Arctic region Christel SCHALDEMOSE, as well as AFET chair David McALLISTER and the rapporteur of the European Parliament on the Arctic Urmas PAET received three members of the Greenlandic Parliament's Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Committee, to hold a brief exchange of views.

The emergency meeting took place on 14 January. The members of the Inatsisartut's Foreign Affairs and Security Committee, Pipaluk Lynge, Chair, Pele Broberg Deputy Chair, and Nivi Rosing, Member, conveyed the worries and fear of the Greenlandic population following President Trump's recent statements and perceived militarisation of the island. The European Parliament delegation reaffirmed their support to the Greenlandic people, reiterated that Greenland is not for sale, emphasising that Greenlanders must be free to determine their own destiny.
The dialogue between members of both Parliaments will resume with the upcoming Conference of Parliamentarians of the Arctic (CPAR) which takes place in April 2026 in Fairbanks, Alaska.
