EU-Caribbean Parliamentary Co-President expresses solidarity with Jamaica following hurricane Melissa
Brussels, 29 October 2025
As a Member of the European Parliament and Co-President of the Caribbean-EU Parliamentary Assembly, I wish to immediately express my deepest solidarity with the people, Parliament and Government of Jamaica in light of Hurricane Melissa across the island and its devastating impact.
My thoughts are with all those affected, and with the emergency services working tirelessly under extremely difficult conditions.
The scale of this disaster calls for urgent mobilisation. The international community, in particular the European Union, must stand by Jamaicans by delivering swift assistance and ensuring sustained medium and long-term support to strengthen social resilience, supporting economic recovery, and rebuilding critical infrastructure.
This tragedy is yet another reminder of the vulnerability of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to the worsening effects of climate change. The EU must not wait. It must act and stand with Jamaica and other Caribbean communities that may also be affected in the coming hours.
In order to facilitate a swift start into the new legislative term, the Parliament has prepared for the new Members a series of brochures providing a detailed information on the EP's role in the external policies of the EU as well as the work of parliamentary standing delegations.
Welcome to the website of the European Parliament's Delegation to the Caribbean-EU Parliamentary Assembly.
