Candle-lighting ceremony in commemoration of the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide in Rwanda [organized by the Outreach Programme on the Rwanda Genocide of the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI), and the Permanent Mission of Rwanda to the United Nations]
Remarks by: Ms. Asha-Rose Migiro, Deputy-Secretary-General of the United Nations; H.E. Mr. Eugene-Richard Gasana, Permanent Representative of Rwanda to the United Nations; H.E. Ms. Susan Rice, Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the UN (TBC); Mr. Francis Deng, Special Adviser of the Prevention of Genocide; Mr. Edward Luck, Special Adviser on the Responsibility to Protect; Ms. Jacqueline Murekatete, Rwandan genocide survivor.
The ceremony will be followed by film screening, "As We Forgive", a documentary about the power and pain of reconciliation in Rwanda, followed by a discussion with the film's director, Ms. Laura Waters Hinson, and a genocide survivor, Ms. Yvette Rugasaguhunga.
