I liked it well enough although it wasn't quite as suspenseful as the preceding serial, however, I would have preferred the sex scenes as fade-to-black because Jamesson isn't adept at writing intimate scenes or sexy characters.
Additionally and IMO, the insta-spark between Rufus and Sprinkles was heavyhanded and unnecessary.

If you love a dark and twisty read…GRAB THIS DUET! Thought-provoking and brilliant! 5 heart-pounding stars! Sydney Jamesson started her Duty Bound Duet with a bang and never let up – not from the first page of Duty of Care Book #1 to the very last page of The Caretakers Book #2. From start to finish this was an at times difficult, dark, twisty, utterly gripping and rewarding read. The writing was exquisite, no other word for it. We ate up everything about this duet. It was heartbreaking and at times horrific, but it was also a story about the triumph of love and unbreakable bonds. A story of good vs evil and so much more!
This is our second read by Sydney Jamesson. After falling in love with her standalone The Darkest Corners , we couldn’t wait to read more from this talented author, and her latest release blew us away! If you’re looking for a new ‘new to you author‘, we URGE you to add Sydney Jamesson to your list and pick up this rollercoaster duet! It was brilliant! Creative and thrilling, with subject matter so sensitive, we can only surmise the research and pain it must have taken for the author to bring this to life. We were reminded that day in, day out, people are living this horrific existence and that evil lurks at every corner. It’s certainly food for thought, and Sydney Jamesson does a stellar job of bringing that depravity into a work of fiction yet also making our hearts soar, as we hoped, with everything we had, that good would triumph over evil.

You know us, we don’t do spoilers… ever, and we certainly won’t be spoiling any aspect of this duet for you as the shocks, surprises and twists that left our mouths agape, are such a huge element of the story, we want you to experience everything just as we did.
Emily Parsons (nee Derbyshire) and her sister Rita were inseparable. After the death of their beloved mother, they were orphaned at 12 and 5, with the older Emily pledging on her mother’s deathbed to always look after Rita and promising to give her the best life possible. And it’s a promise she takes very seriously, especially within the inner walls of the Summerville Children’s Residence – the cold stark place Emily and little Rita now call home.
‘Growing up, we didn’t have much of anything, but we had an abundance of love.’
It would be a place that would shape the girls into adulthood. The innocent, sweet Rita, would always be protected and loved, the fierce and protective Emily would see to that. The sisterly bond was beautiful and unbreakable, until the day Emily received news that would devastate her to her very core. Her twenty three year old beloved sister, Rita had committed suicide. Emily was bereft, making it her life’s mission to find out what could have possibly led her life loving sister to take her life.
“We have to accept that we may not see the people we love, but that doesn’t mean we love them any less.”
Little did Emily know it was a mission that would bring her face to face with evil, leading her to the underbelly of the criminal world and into a world of sickness and depravity where the mighty dollar is worth more than an innocent life.
Enlisting the help of a lonely rugged American PI/Hacker named Robert Blackmoor, Emily discovers a world she had only read about, and as we uncover the events that led to the loss of Rita, we become so uncomfortable and tentative about turning the pages, fearful of what we would find, but desperate to find out. Yes, it’s horrifying and ugly, but we revel in Emily’s bravery and tenacity to bring justice for her sister, and in the process find a man who understands on a level like no other.

Told in present and past switches, we learn about the sisters in the lead up to Emily receiving the news of her sisters passing, feeling as though we were living their lives with them, experiencing their predicaments, such was the vividness of Sydney Jamesson’s painfully beautiful storytelling. We felt revulsion, pain, and anger. We felt sadness and hopelessness, yet somewhere deep inside was a feeling of hope.
‘Over time, I’d developed a thick, impenetrable skin whereas Rita had remained soft, well-intentioned and trusting.’
Whilst parts of this story were horrific, it wasn’t written for shock value, more to bring forth the integral core of the story, putting us front and centre, ensuring we experienced the plight of the characters through their eyes. With lead weight in our stomachs, we were torn between our eagerness to read on and the trepidation of what was to come.
‘The man across the hall had become my confidante and my saviour; he had given me the strength to overserve the darkest aspects of human nature, to come face to face with evil.’
Simmering under all the ugliness is a beautiful love story between the world hardened Emily, and the mysterious Robert, who’s own background story was heartbreaking and tragic. Two kindred souls with the same goal and the way their love story came to fruition was breathtaking. Robert and Emily made our hearts soar.
‘He trusted me enough to reveal himself: the man behind the bearded mask, the unseen cyberman without a name or public identity; the passionate man who had loved and lost and believed he might be able to love again.’
The Duty Bound Duet was an intense read and one we couldn’t put down! From the gobsmacking end of the first book to the seamless way Sydney Jamesson took us deeper into an ugly world where human life is regarded as a commodity and where evil lurks in the second book – we couldn’t look away. This is a duet we’ll be thinking about and discussing for a long time to come. Now, that’s how you keep a reader riveted and entertained! And talk about a heart-pounding ride to the finish! Wow!

Once again, Emily Parsons finds herself in a position to help locate Louise Travers.. a missing 16-year-old. Emily had noticed her while waiting for a train .. saw the three men who abducted her, but she just wasn't fast enough to help the girl.
With the help of a computer hacker, Robert Blackmoor, they must find Louise before she disappears in the world of the Dark Web, especially human trafficking.
Tracking the abductors is almost impossible, but Emily and Robert get some additional help. There are eyes on Emily, watching her every move ... friend or foe?
In the midst of all this, her past jumps up and slaps her in the face, she doesn't know who she can trust to keep her secrets.
This is an excellent addition to this 2-book series. I would love to see more of these characters. The characters are deftly drawn, willing to do whatever it takes to protect the innocent. The action is non-stop, starting on the very first page. It's a fast-paced page-turner.
The story is told by varied characters .. one of which comes from the kidnapped teenager. This may be a TRIGGER for some as there is graphic descriptions of physical and sexual abuse.

FIVE STARS AREN'T ENOUGH!
The cliffy in DUTY OF CARE, book one of The Duty of Care Duet drove me nuts and I couldn’t wait to dive into THE CARETAKERS. The author doesn’t hang about! From word go, she threw me back into the deep end of Derbyshire sisters’ world, giving me a bird’s eye view of happenings in what would become yet another nail-biting thriller.
“You are a force to be reckoned with, Emily.”
Did Jamesson scratch the surface in Duty of Care? Well, yes and no! It’s a dark read, but I found the conclusion even darker and much scarier if that were possible. The author’s done her homework, too. So much so that I had trouble getting my head around some shocking facts. How could I have been so naïve to think that what she’d presented didn’t exist on such a large scale in these days we live in? Honestly, it got to the point when I didn’t know whether to strangle the author or not because man, can she write absorbing psychological suspense or what!

“You do indeed, Emily.”
Emily and Robert’s previous achievement was worthy of celebrating; however, Emily’s guilt-ridden and more to the point, she’s annoyed with herself. Trying to help someone after such turbulent times failed miserably. There’s no calm in her heart, and she’s determined to get to the bottom of it. Robert is well aware that they’re about to tread on dangerous ground but this guy with a heart of gold is prepared to go all the way for the woman he loves. Swooning here ladies and gents ‘cause this American crack computer hacker and investigator struck all my cords!
‘Robert Blackmoor didn’t do polite conversation; his idea of small talk involved putting the world to rights in twenty easy steps and even fewer sentences.’
In Duty of Care, I learnt how strong the sisters’ bond was. She’s been Rita’s protector for too long and it’s time to let go, to believe in her and trust Robert’s instincts, too. Rufus, a new character who’s also got his work cut out for him, literally blew me away. The question I had was would Emily’s faith in the people she cared for stay true. And although she’s not one to get her knickers in a twist easily, in a couple of scenes I certainly wondered how she’d react. Should I have been concerned? You’ll only find out by reading this duet!
“You’re kinda hard to break away from, Emily, even if trouble seems to follow you around like a goddam shadow.”
Suspense abounds in a well-planned plot. Jamesson’s creative skills are of the highest caliber, and with the amount of detail she’d conveyed, I never thought for one second that the dual narrative from the least expected was overdone. Although I thought the conclusion was the bomb, I do think there’s room for more where this came from! In fact, a spin-off would be a real treat...even a continuation of their make it or break it world of intrigue would be welcome. This is without a doubt, a must-read for lovers of nail-biting reads who lap up plots overflowing with twists and turns where you least expect them to arise. Bravo, Jamesson!

This book continues along its dark path with even more twists and turns that featured in book one. Not for the faint hearted as this author spares no details in her descriptions. You are able to picture every dark, deviant scene in all its glory.
Emily (who I would liken to Lara Croft) continues on her vigiliante mission to rescue those who have fallen foul to sex traffickers. She has come a long way from the scared child that had to grow up fast. I like that we get to see her softer side and is given a love interest who is even more of an enigma. It was always going to take a special charcater to hold her attention.
Psychological suspense is one of my favourite genres; you never know where the story is going and what secrets will be uneathed along the way. I can say this kept me guessing right until the very last page was turned. What an absolute thrill ride this duet took me on!

This is book 2 of the Duty Bound Duet - and wow! This book has Emily on a roller coaster ride of intrigue. Sydney Jamesson is such a gifted writer that you are immersed in this seedy world that we do not want to think exists. I was glued to the unfolding story as Emily bravely works to rescue those who have found themselves the victims of sex traffickers. And with the help of Robert, well I loved the story even more! I found myself horrified, heartbroken and in tears at times, but Sydney is just that good. I highly recommend these books!

Book one Duty of Care was excellent so I was sold on the sequel straight away.
After unraveling what happened to her little sister Rita, Emily Parsons and the intrepid Robert Blackmoor have a new mission; find missing teenager Louise Travis.
Along the way they encounter gangsters, ex SAS soldiers (Rufus is a good one though) and they start to unpick the criminal world that takes and abuses.
Where Duty of Care alternated between past and present, The Caretakers is written from Emily’s POV with interspersed sections written in third person about Louise and what her experiences are. It all works so well together.
Such a well written couple of books. Action packed with little clues scattered throughout. Heroes and villains, good coming from bad, evil to be dealt with and cleared out like stinking rats.

If you think book one is fast-paced then you better hold on to your seat for the final instalment of The Duty Bound Duet
The main characters from the first book has a new mission and that is to find the kidnapped girl, Louise, whom Emily met at the train station. With the help of Robert, Rita and Rufus they go all out planning a daring rescue.
Told in dual points of view of Emily and Louise, this is a nail-biting story of human trafficking and is seen through the eyes of Louise. The horrors she witnessed and experienced are dark but also shows her resilience in spirit. Time is running out for her and we hope that Emily's gang of "Avengers" will reach her before it is too late.
In this book we witness Emily's relationship with Robert evolving into something more meaningful and who knows what's next for Rita and maybe Rufus? I am fascinated with Emily's metamorphosis from a woman who thought she is only good at crunching numbers to a lady who is bad-ass enough to forge ties with the underworld and turning them into allies.
"There is no room in our world for denial, distrust or doubt. Come what may, we won't be swayed, and our resolve won't be shaken."
I wish the author would consider making this book into a series because she created interesting, strong and diverse characters that make them a formidable team. I highly recommend this book!

This is book 2 of a duet and although the main thread of this story stands alone from book 1 I would suggest reading them in order. This is a psychological thriller and not as much a romance. Yes, there are some significant relationships, but romance is just on the side of the main story. This time Emily is trying to save Louise from being lost in a world of darkness.

WOW! Just wow!
Well the Caretakers continues where Duty of Care ended and it was sooo damn good!
I still can't believe that I totally enjoyed this books although I'm a hopeless romantic.
Well the good thing for me was that there was some romantic moments... but most of the time this book was SO THRILLING THAT I COULDN'T STOP MYSELF FROM READING!!!

I sat on the edge of my bed and sometimes I had to take some breaks to deal with the stuff I just read!
Phew! It's really heavy stuff and totally a topic in our world so it was really refreshing to read this kind of book.
I was so happy to see that there was not just so much darkness! There was HOPE! And I totally felt with the characters and the things they had to deal with!
Emily and Robert are back in the game and try to save someone... I don't wanna spoil you so you should find out for yourself.

Emily Parsons had a very difficult upbringing. She is fiercely protective of those she loves and those that need help. She has had to ward off monsters in her time; however, she is haunted by the blond-haired girl in need of assistance.
Sixteen-year-old Louise Travis was abducted, and Emily feels responsible as she had her safety within her grasp and unfortunately that slipped away from her. She once again enlists the help of the genius computer hacker Robert Blockworthy who must find poor Louise before she is lost to the dark clutches of evil at work. There is so much that can get in their way, especially skeletons from Emily’s closet.
The Caretaker is the second installment and picks up where Duty of Care left us. The edge of your seat stuff from the duet is action-packed from beginning to end and I couldn’t put this book down for a second without wondering what fate awaited the formidable team. Abounding twists and turns will test your nerves to the limit.
Robert, Emily, and her sister Rita help to try and crack the mystery of Louise and where she is. This is a dark and alarming insight into things that exist. My heart broke for their discoveries. The job is big and Robert drafts in the help of a new character called Rufus. I liked him and the working of them all with their different ideas was compelling, to say the least. At times, I had a lump in my throat because I feared for everyone’s safety. Let’s face it, how could I not feel as I did when the incredibly gripping moments had me holding my breath!
We not only get Emily’s point of view, but we learn through Louise’s eyes of her experiences and I found myself willing for the right outcome. The penmanship is a masterpiece, absolutely flawless writing that flows throughout. I loved the evolving relationship between Emily and Robert, and it was endearing to think Emily could have happiness with him. He is such a clever likable character who will seem to go to the ends of the earth to help her in any way he can. Although they were very serious about cracking the evilness that lurked, their feelings shone through. Also, I caught a glimpse of a possible love interest between Rita and Rufus which was a welcome glimpse considering what that poor girl had been through. This psychological suspense was a total thrill seeker and I, for one, think there’s a possibility for more as this duet opens up so many possibilities. Bravo Ms. Jamesson! Beautifully executed and undoubtedly well-researched.
Whilst reading, I had music very low in the background. I found a very fitting tune for this story called My People by Samuel Jack. The lyrics fit so well that I thought of Emily, Rita, Robert, and Rufus and all the other characters fighting and coming out stronger.

It is an emotional read that had me raging with anger, sniggering with a few laughs, but mostly biting my nails wanting to know the conclusion.

Louise's experiences are heartbreaking and harrowing, yet through it all she has a fighting spirit that keeps her constantly reassuring herself that she will be found. For a sincere review, I had the chance to read the ARC of The Caretakers, book two in The Duty Bound Duet by Sydney Jamesson.
Hold your breath, because this sequel takes you on a ride with more twists and turns that you readers experienced in the first book. You will follow Emily, Robert, Rita and Rufus trying to find and rescue a kidnapped girl, Louise.
For Emily this is a rescue mission of no return, a mission that reveals the worst nightmare about human trafficking.
This second book is also written in dual points of view, Emily and Louise.
Love Sydney Jameson gripping story telling, the flow in her writing style, how the chapters are organized, the intensifying of the angst to a higher level.
Love the characters insight and strength and evolution. Love the fact that Emily, even in the second book is retelling her story in first person which emphasizes her strength and control, which she is guarding until the end.
Also the fact that we are presented the cruelty and nightmare of the kidnappers organization retold by a brave Louise.
I never thought that I will agree with a book character, that takes retribution in her own hands, but without questioning right or wrong I can accept the outcomes of the action.
Congratulations Sydney Jamesson to this amazing 5 Stars read with all the suspense, twists and edges on the right place.

Oh Sydney you just continue to exceed expectations.
Continuation of Duty of Care's twists and turns are in The Caretakers for sisters who were also best friends, always there for each other and part of each other.
If you need more OMG moments then you are in for so many more for you here. I definitely wasn't ready or expecting part of it.
I was full of every emotion throughout the story as the fight to find Louise intensifies.
Reet definitely has balls which I didn't expect either. Who knew that Emily an office and numbers girl could also be so intense in delivering punishment when required.
Loved the flow of the story and how feelings from each person came through with every word.
Would love to know what will happen next for the awesome foursome and everyone else involved in their little family.

The "Duet" rocked my socks off! The seedy side of life is portrayed in a way that makes you grip your Kindle tighter and tighter. When you go searching for answers and the Dark Web finds it's way into the storyline, a roller-coaster of terror begins. After reading the first book in the series, I was anxious to move on. Is there love, murder, mystery, mayhem, suspense? Yes, there is a bit of sex involved, but it contributes to the theme. It's all there but, will it end happily? Only reading will allow you to get behind the story and see how it ends. It's a guaranteed page-turner.

It’s so dark that it went beyond my comfort zone, but I was hooked by the writer’s style and was determined to see the story through to it’s conclusion.

hook line and sinker...
this book had me hooked and I didn't want to put it down no matter how hard i tried. I loved how emily and rita teamed up to help out a young girl. I loved every moment of the great read and it had me on tender hook each time I turned a page.

Review: Really wished I could give this book more than 5 stars! This was a well worth reading book! The author is able to catch the readers attention and keep them turning the pages while being on the edge of their seats! This is one of those that's hard to put down and unbearable to not continue reading when you need to get other things done!

Once again Sydney Jamesson has given up a story full of shocking twists and turns, that take will take you on a roller coaster ride that you will never forget.

The caretakers is booked two in the Duty Bond Duet. Emily is shattered by the news of her sisters Suicide and with the help of Robert Blackmore she was out to prove her sister did not take her own life; and was out to punish the people who hurt her baby sister. We are taken into some dark places, and we learn what happened to the Derbyshire sisters growing up that shaped them especially Emily. Emily is now focused on finding Louise. Get ready for more secrets to be discovered and brought to light. We are introduced to more characters that will be helping Emily & Robert bring the monsters down. Again pay attention to details from the past, for they will expose & bring justice. Congratulations Sydney Jamesson yo mind blowing story.
