There was, we learn, such a thing as the Chapeau Morès. Following his life in Dakota, the marquis incorporated a broadbrim hat into his persona, and the term, Chapeau Morès, came into use. It occurs to me, which came first, the Chateau Morès, or Chateau de Morès; or the Chapeau Morès? Using my usual devices for terminological research, I am not locating use of the term, Chateau Morès, or Chateau de Morès, before 1922. And that raises still other questions.
