사고로 화성에 홀로 남겨진 우주인의 생존기.
온갖 과학지식을 동원, 물을 만들고, 감자를 길러내는 그 성공의 짜릿함.
패스파인더를 찾아와 끝내 지구와 통신을 하고야 마는 끈질긴 집념. 온갖 불가능해 보이는 상황에서도 유머와 긍정은 잃지 않는다.
그의 구조를 위해 총 역량을 동원하는 지구, 그 인간애.
끝내 화성중력을 벗어나 그를 구조하기 위해 온 헤르메스호를 만나는 마지막 챕터에서 내 손은 땀에 젖을수 밖에 없었다!
공기, 물, 음식, 그리고 같이 사는 사람들이 너무나 소중하다는 뻔한 교훈도 나쁘지 않다.

영어책 읽는 속도가 느려서 끝까지 읽은 책이 많지 않은데, 읽는 즐거움에 잠을 줄여가며 읽었다.

내게 과학적인 기본 지식이 있었다면 훨씬 재미있었을 것 같다. 아쉽게도 글 속의 과학적인 해결책들을 이미지화 하는 것이 쉽지 않아서 완벽하게 즐기지 못했던 듯 하다. 신선한 소재와 넘치는 위트를 높이 평가한다.
