This book is haunting and beautifully written. It's also one of the most unique examples of genre bending I've ever seen. It has elements of the horror and thriller genres but the character study within is so well drawn it is also wildly funny and deeply dramatic. If I had the money to option this book for a film, I would do it in a heartbeat. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is length. It's far too short. It's really good that I wanted more, but not good that I didn't get it. Amazing book.

This book is so rich it's overwhelming to read. I feel it could be a masterpiece with some strategic editing - mainly to clear redundancies that become quite conspicuous throughout. McCarthy is not like Faulkner or anyone from the past. He is his own point of comparison and I value his existence as one of the few writers of our time who is both intellectually satisfying and wildly visceral.
