I love a good historical fiction read, and this is an engaging, believable tale with a story line that sheds light on an aspect of the World War ll resistance movement in France that is both intriguing and inspiring. The heroine wrestles between involvement in the movement and fleeing to safety, as well as the guilt she carries for decisions made at pivotal moments. A couple of surprise twists! I felt that the characters could be further developed to make them less one-dimensional (i.e. the mother was of a single note and I found it hard to accept her character’s portrayal despite the emotional toll loss would surely have under the circumstances).
