I got this one as a gift from my partner. I'm traveling to a number of different countries this year where norse people lived, so I figured I would go through this as a reminder. In my 20s I was a bit of a Nordic history 'fan-boy' lol so somewhere in the back of my head I thought that I knew a good chunk of this info.

But I was pleasantly surprised to learn a decent amount. The author doesn't go into great detail about any one thing, but recounts tales, poems and sagas that I was less familiar with (along with the more familiar stuff). And the illustrations were quite nice.

But, on the negative side, I gotta say, there is something about how this book is organized that isn't great. The section about humans seemed rushed, which made the introduction to new characters brief and with little context, which didn't make for a good read. I know sagas can be a little vague on information at times, but I've listened to podcasts that go through various sagas, and they do their best to fill in the blanks, so I would hope that a book would also do the same.

So I had mixed feelings, but it was an overall enjoyable read."
