The story is only interesting if you look at it with very gay tinted glasses. In Shippuden, the homosexual themes are so incredibly blatant I would be so surprised if Kishimoto didn't write it that way on purpose. People say Kishimoto intended for Sasuke and Naruto to be gay but didn't to appeal to a wider audience and for the big shonen bucks. I guess that's plausible, but I just think he was experimenting with romance in his story and also that he hates women. Every single main female character aside from Tsunade is absolutely horribly written, which is why so many of the fans are so sure that Naruto and Sasuke are gay.
