"This book is supposed to be about Ellie, but in reality, half of this book is adjectives and adverbs about how dangerously attractive and buff her cousin, Daniel, is. Or what he’s like. Or how he usually acts. Or how he’s perceived. This was so prevalent that the book felt like Daniel should have been the real protagonist here. I felt like the author was obsessed with Daniel and forgot to give Ellie any personality.

This book was supposed to have generational trauma, which would have been a really interesting topic to explore through the lens of several physics warping universes. There was barely any discussion of Ellie and her sister’s relationship with their mom, despite it being one of the only plot points. This book was really about a comic book villain: Ellie’s sister, Chris. Chris’s motivations didn’t make sense, nor did Ellie’s want to be “real sisters” with her. Ellie claims filial piety, but just claiming filial piety doesn’t justify accepting assassination attempts. The characters motivations and relationships just fell completely flat.

The world building was non existent. Throwing around physics terms doesn’t make a science fiction book. Nothing is explained, it’s essentially just “physics magic”. There was a strong food focus in the beginning, which was promptly forgotten about in the second half.

Finally, why are you using the term skunkworks???? Skunk Works is an already established program in Lockheed Martin. They are exceptionally famous in the engineering space. This just made me confused and think the author was lazy.
