"Gregor Samsa is a travelling salesman who hates his job, yet continues working because he has taken responsibility for paying off his father's previous business debts and supporting his family.
What struck me most is how Gregor is treated almost like a machine. His employer and society seem concerned mainly with his productivity. He works continuously without really looking at himself or asking what he wants from life. As long as he is earning and supporting his family, he is useful.

But everything changes after his transformation.
The people closest to him begin to see him as a disgusting pest rather than the person who sacrificed so much for them. Gregor becomes psychologically paralyzed by his circumstances. The transformation exposes something deeply uncomfortable: was he loved for who he was, or had his value become closely tied to what he could provide?

Kafka is a terrific writer when it comes to carving human emotions into his characters. Every character feels alive, and the scenes are so vivid that I could almost see them unfolding around me.
I loved this book. It has become one of my favorites by Kafka because it exposes the uncomfortable reality of human expectations—even within the closest relationships.
Gregor gradually loses his human identity and dignity. He begins adapting to the habits of his new insect-like existence—crawling on the walls and developing a preference for rotten food.
But the deeper transformation is psychological.

His faith in his relationships begins to break down as he is increasingly treated as a burden, even by his mother and sister. He is confined to his bedroom and hidden from others. At times, he hides himself beneath the sheets because he does not want his family to see him.
Slowly, Gregor loses interest in the things that once gave him pleasure. His hope begins to disappear, and he becomes increasingly isolated until his death.

Reading this book shook me. I felt Gregor's loneliness and the pain of being treated as filthy simply because he had become helpless and could no longer work or earn.

What makes his tragedy even more painful is that he had spent so much of his life working for his family. Yet when he could no longer fulfil that role, the same relationships became difficult for him to rely upon.
Kafka seems to hold up a mirror to society and ask an uncomfortable question:
What happens to a person when they are no longer useful?

Gregor's transformation reveals how quickly a person can be reduced to their usefulness. As long as he contributes financially, he has a purpose in the eyes of his family. Once he can no longer contribute, he becomes a burden.

This idea goes far beyond Gregor's family. It made me think about how society often measures people by what they produce, earn, or provide rather than by who they are.
For me, Gregor's transformation represents much more than a physical change.
His family was supposed to be his greatest source of support. Yet even those closest to him gradually turn away from him when he becomes helpless.
The loss of his physical appearance seems to expose the hidden conditions within his relationships. The affection and respect he once received begin disappearing when he can no longer fulfil his role as the family's provider.

That is what makes his story heartbreaking.
Gregor becomes isolated, devastated and emotionally broken. His sense of worth disappears because he begins to believe that he is no longer worthy of love or even of existence.
His transformation therefore becomes a powerful psychological metaphor for alienation, rejection, loss of identity and the human need to feel valued.

The Metamorphosis was written in 1915, yet the emotions it explores still feel remarkably relevant in this decade.

That is perhaps what affected me most.
Human relationships can sometimes become transactional. People may unconsciously measure one another by what they can give, earn, provide or contribute. When that usefulness disappears, relationships can change in ways that are painful to witness.

Kafka exposes this reality through an extraordinary and disturbing story.
For me, The Metamorphosis is not simply about a man who turns into an insect.
It is about what happens to a human being when the world stops seeing him as human.

It is about loneliness, dignity, family, usefulness, rejection and the devastating need to be valued for who we are rather than for what we can provide.
I loved this book, and it is definitely one of my favorites by Franz Kafka."
