Originally I read this for a local Black Queer Pride bookclub event. I was trying to catch up, since the event I would be attending was the last in the series. So I started reading Zami on a casual Sunday afternoon, sitting outside of a vegan resturant in sweltering hot weather. Immediately, I was enthralled by Lorde's voice. I was enthralled by the storytelling and simultaneously wanted more.

I wanted to know about her queer relationship, what being queer actually meant to her, whether she connects with indigiqueer or forms her queerness along similar indigenous constellations. I wanted to know more about this female partner that exists "outside" of her primary relationship. How did they meet? Why did this not occupy as much space as her ruminations on two white b ...more
