A well-written, quietly beautiful book in which the setting is as much of a character as the people are. It wasn't personally my cup of tea, but there's no denying that this is an excellent book.

I plucked this out of my town's not-so-Little Free Library, and I'm so glad I did. The stories in this collection read like modern-day fairy tales or fables full of exquisite details, fantasy characters, and wisdom that affirms the way of things. One of the stories invokes Matisse's (really Baudelaire's) "calme, luxe et volupte," and the notion really sums up the entire collection. I will go back to this book again and again.
