Research summary
Historically, patients with chronic rhinitis (having symptoms such as frequent runny nose, congestion and or post-nasal drip) have had limited surgical treatment options such as a vidian neurectomy. Cryotherapy to the posterior nasal nerves is an emerging. minimally invasive treatment that can be administered under local anaesthetic in the outpatient setting. NICE has recommended that cryotherapy for chronic rhinitis is investigated further, particularly which subtypes of rhinitis and the duration of benefit. The investigators intend to assess the feasibility of the treatment in the setting of an NHS outpatients prior to potentially developing a randomised trial. Therefor there will be a small sample size of 5-10 patients. Patients who decide to take part may expect to have two additional visits to their standard care, these being: the treatment visit and a 6 week follow up in addition to a usual 3 month follow up. Patient Reported Outcome Measures will be taken at the additional visits as well as the usual visits. Investigator data such as duration of procedure and ease of administration will also be measured.
