I am one of those "I watch AJLT because I feel like I owe it that much" viewers so I'm very aware of the character's backstory but I thought something didn't add up when watching this episode. So I went back to watch AJLT from the beginning and sure enough, I was right! LTW (stupid nickname) mentions (in s1/ep2) that she lost her father the previous year yet here we are with her dad dying, again! Seriously? Aren't there people who track these things? Yes, normally there are and for a show who has had the same people (sans Darren Star) working on it the whole time you would think one person would have picked up on this. Maybe they did and it's just so toxic to say anything negative (SJP, are we looking at you?) that no one was brave enough to raise their hand. C'mon SATC/AJLT, your viewers are loyal and probably are a few IQ points smarter than say a Rosanne viewer would be, but even that show knew how to address its shortcomings. I'm happy AJLT will end after this season because it's tired and it shows. Time to send the girls off to the big apple's sunset forever.
Though this show deals with modern day issues for the 20 something group, I can relate in so many ways. I used to live in a large city with a group of diverse personalities. We had our own financial and social issues, losing jobs, dating unhinged people, large medical bills, and putting off adult things. Traversing your way through adulthood is challenging but fun at the same time. I have mostly great memories and hung out with some great people in a vibrant city that I miss to this day. I feel this is far superior to Friends as far as real characters. I'm old and I've already rewatched all the episodes. I guess I've never given Nick Kroll enough credit.
