Fathi Abdelmalek received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Institut des Sciences Appliquées et de Technologie, École Centrale de Lyon, Écully, France, in 1996 and 1999, respectively. He had developed models and numerical schemes for nanoscale structures, combining photon–electron interactions with experimental measurements in femtosecond lasers, photonic integrated devices, and sensors. He was a research associate and a research fellow at U.S. and U.K. universities, where he researched ultrafast photonics, nanophotonics for applications in telecommunication and aerospace technology, metalenses, and biosensors for use in medicine and the environmental industry. His current interests are designing and developing a new generation of nanobiosensors for applications in health care (early detection of diseases such as identifying viruses, studying cancer cells’ early detection, brain tumors, and drug delivery) and also using quantum nanophotonic and artificial intelligence for the design of integrated optical smart systems for applications in renewable energy and medical fields. Dr. AbdelMalek received several awards for his research contributions.
