A Senior Researcher at both CERN and Yale University, Dr. Lagouri contributed to the groundbreaking discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 as part of the ATLAS Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Dr. Lagouri is a former distinguished Marie Curie Fellow, a member of the Hellenic High Energy Physics Society (H-HEP) and the American Physical Society (APS). She currently chairs the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) Policy Working Group, and has led the MCAA Switzerland Chapter for 4 years.

Introduction to the Scope of the Book

This book, “Particle Accelerators and High-Energy Experimental Particle Physics”, will explore the critical relationship between particle accelerators and experimental research in high-energy physics. It will emphasize the experimental side of collider-based particle physics, focusing on how accelerators like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have advanced our understanding of the fundamental particles and forces shaping the universe. Covering key topics such as the evolution of particle colliders, it will explore the significance of detectors like ATLAS and CMS in testing the Standard Model and probing physics beyond it, with major breakthroughs like the discovery of the Higgs boson. The book will also highlight the importance of global collaboration and cutting-edge technology in high-energy experiments, while discussing future collider projects that promise to push the boundaries of energy frontier in particle physics. Designed for researchers, students, and enthusiasts, this work will bridge theory, experiment, and technological advances, offering insights into the profound discoveries made possible by particle accelerators.
