Tucson Police arrest two following man’s death

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The Tucson Police Department arrested two people in connection with a man’s death on Sunday, Oct. 19.

Police said officers responded to a home in the 500 block of East Mabel Street following a report of an injured person in the front yard.

The TPD said 25-year-old Alec Richard Newling was taken to the hospital following a confrontation with two other people. He died at the hospital.

The TPD said officers served a search warrant on the home, spoke to witnesses, collected evidence, and processed the scene. 

40-year-old Joshua Vincent Lee Poe and 19-year-old Gavin Sean Whitaker were both arrested.

Poe faces charges of second-degree murder, misconduct involving weapons by a prohibited possessor, and tampering with physical evidence. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 30.

Whitaker faces charges of second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence. His initial court appearance can be seen below.

Whitaker’s next court appearance is also scheduled for Oct. 30.

Both men are being held on $1 million bond.
