Northern Nevada Legal Aid celebrates 60 years of helping the community
RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Northern Nevada Legal Aid celebrated 60 years of providing free legal services to the region on Saturday, Oct. 19, at its Silver & Gold Gala at the Atlantis Casino in Reno.
“For 60 years, Northern Nevada Legal Aid has stood for one simple belief: everyone deserves access to justice no matter their income or circumstance,” said Executive Director Dave Spitzer.
Spitzer said the mission is made real daily by its staff who work tirelessly to serve the community.
“Tonight, we celebrate the progress we’ve made together and the promise of all that’s still ahead,” Spitzer said. “Thank you for being part of our story.”
The gala program included Todd Torvinen, who spoke about the organization’s roots.
Retired Judge Frances Doherty highlighted Northern Nevada Legal Aid’s past.
James Conway detailed the work the nonprofit does, which includes child advocacy, civil law self-help, domestic violence, senior law center, immigration, adult guardianship, and consumer/housing.
“We provide access to justice,” according to Northern Nevada Legal Aid.
Judges Jennifer Richards and Kendra Bertschy talked about what the organization has become.
