WCSD investigating reports of financial fraud
RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County School District says it is investigating reports of financial fraud.
According to a spokesperson, the district received a report on the alleged fraud through its dedicated hotline last Wednesday.
It comes after a case was filed in district court by a whistleblower who claims the administrators allowed false overtime charges and fraudulent procurement card transactions among other allegations over several years.
The district tells KOLO 8 News Now it has not been served with related documents but when it receives the complaint, it will resolve the matter in a transparent manner.
In a statement, the district said in part:
“The Washoe County School District takes its role as a steward of public funds very seriously. The district has established systems, procedures and safeguards to ensure accountability in all financial and operational practices. If you have fraud, waste, or abuse to report, you can find the report hot line on WashoeSchools.net "
