For more than 30 years, the Commission has walked alongside South Carolina’s diverse communities by providing in-depth research, fostering and strengthening connections, honoring traditions and cultures, and creating economic opportunities. Our legacy of service continues, now under a new name that reflects our growing mission. In May 2025, the agency’s statute was changed. As a result of this change, we have been renamed as the South Carolina Commission for Community Advancement and Engagement. As we look ahead, our new name represents an evolution: a broader vision, new and deeper partnerships, and more innovative approaches to advancing communities across the state. While our name has changed, our commitment to building strong communities remains unchanged and unwavering. We invite you join us in this evolution. Become a community champion and advocate for positive change in your neighborhood or join our network of partners dedicated to creating opportunities for success. Together, we can shape a future where opportunity and prosperity are within the reach of every South Carolinian. Watch now ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ecD7sEd5

Join us in wishing Nicole Moran, former Executive Coordinator, much success on her new adventure! Community Engagement Director Ivan Segura said Nicole’s “energy and dedication have truly made a difference, especially in building strong connections within the Latino community.” “Her passion for community health work and her unwavering dedication to our mission have inspired us all,” Segura said. “We will definitely miss her warmth and spirit, but I know she’ll continue to make a positive impact in our community. Thank you, Nicole, for everything—you’ll always be a part of our team!"

In our latest research report, Statistical and Research Analyst Alicia Paige M.A. explores how doulas and midwives can play a critical role in addressing and reducing maternity care gaps in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina. Drawing on data analysis from health care and support professionals, the report examines the intersection of race, reproductive health, and healthcare access to highlight the value of culturally responsive, community-based care.
