Rialto Studio is proud to finally share that the Alterman Headquarters received an Award of Merit from Texas ASLA ! This week's #WLAM2026 theme is Designing for Health and Well-Being. Alterman is one of the clearest examples of what that looks like in practice. A 20-acre corporate campus for an electrical contractor, built from the ground up with landscape as a financial priority. Not an afterthought. Not value-engineered away. The client kept the design intact because they understood what it would do for their people and their community. A 27,000-gallon cistern captures roof runoff, supplies irrigation, and reduces groundwater dependence. Overflow spills into a rock-lined channel that recharges groundwater before reaching the municipal system. At night the cistern glows as a neighborhood landmark. At the center of campus, a pavilion hovers over a circular plaza built for gathering. A half-mile fitness loop winds through the property with mileage markers and a memorial honoring a late employee. Endemic wildflowers and grasses restore Blackland Prairie character along the freeway frontage. Only 10 percent of the site is turf. This is what happens when a client invests in landscape from day one.
