This reflection explores how Thadd’s Place, a rural Oregon community grief center, is helping older adults and families navigate loss through connection, shared presence, and intergenerational support. The direct care workforce is the backbone of America’s long-term care system—yet the infrastructure supporting these workers remains fragmented and inadequate. But Kezia Scales, Emily Dieppa Colo, and Jodi Sturgeon have ideas about amending this situation via PHI’s Direct Care Workforce Initiative, in #GenerationsJournal: https://lnkd.in/esRpjHpe PHI - Quality Care Through Quality Jobs #Medicaid #LongTermServices #DirectCareWorkforce #CareerPathways

A Yale professor says older Americans are "hoarding America's potential" and proposes mandatory retirement and taxes on housing to push older people out of their homes, among other insidious things. Here's what he's missing: 👉 America is a tale of two cities. Older adults are the only group whose poverty rate is rising. They're the fastest-growing population experiencing homelessness. And more than a third of Americans don't think they'll ever save enough to retire. 👉 Unaffordable housing, stagnant wages, inadequate healthcare, and a fraying safety net aren't "older American" problems. They're everyone's problems. And we won't solve them by turning generations against each other. We don't have an age problem. We have a class problem. The answer isn't generational warfare. It's intergenerational partnership to develop real solutions to the real problems of housing shortages, income inequality, and younger and older people being excluded from and/or pushed out of the workforce. I'm grateful to the American Society on Aging for giving me the platform to make that case, and to suggest that all of us have a role to play. 👉 What's the most harmful ageist assumption you've encountered? Drop it in the comments. 👉 Where have you seen generations come together to create real change? I'd love to hear your story. Read, share, and let's change the conversation. https://lnkd.in/dnTUwEE3

This Older Americans Month we are looking for ways to champion our health, and it starts with access to the right nutrition at the right time. In this article, American Society on Aging highlights how partnerships with Older Americans Act nutrition programs can strengthen medically tailored meals policy and better support older adults living with chronic conditions—while also uplifting the importance of The Medically Tailored Home-Delivered Meals Pilot Act (H.R. 5439/S.2834) in advancing this work. Community-based aging services are already leading the way in improving health outcomes every day.
