  • This Veterinary Assistant Week, we’re proud to spotlight Kayla Smith from our Christiana hospital in Newark, DE. Since joining us as a kennel assistant in April 2021, Kayla has shown incredible growth, transitioning to the surgery service and leveling into her current role as a veterinary assistant on the surgery team. Kayla’s greatest strength is her versatility. She has cross-trained to support our emergency, critical care, and ophthalmology services, bringing a "can-do" attitude that ensures every patient receives exceptional care. Her willingness to jump in wherever she is needed makes her an invaluable teammate. Technician manager, Lisa Smith, shared: "Kayla is dedicated, professional, hard-working, and compassionate. She truly shines as an ICU assistant, demonstrating advanced critical thinking to anticipate the needs of both the critical patient and the ICU technician she is supporting. She rises to any challenge with a steady, calm demeanor." Thank you, Kayla, for your hard work and for being such an incredible teammate! #BeingBluePearl #ProudlyMars #VeterinaryAssistantWeek

  • If you’ve visited our Richmond, VA, hospital, you likely already know Nick. Nicholas King, a veterinary assistant at our Richmond hospital, is the kind of Associate who sets the bar for compassion – so much so that clients frequently mention him by name for the comfort he provides during their visits. His practice manager, Ashleigh, sees that impact every day: “Nick always prioritizes the well-being of each pet, ensuring they receive the best possible care. He consistently goes above and beyond, and we are truly grateful to have someone as hardworking and compassionate as Nick on our team." For Nick, the best part of the job is being the steady presence a family needs when they walk through our doors. “My favorite part about being a veterinary assistant at BluePearl is helping pet owners in tough situations and assuring them that the team and I have them - and their beloved pets – covered,” Nick shared. “It makes me happy to help distressed pet owners and be able to comfort them with compassion.” Thank you, Nick, for being a vital part of the BluePearl family and for the incredible “assist” you provide our Richmond community every day. #BluePearlRichmond #BeingBluePearl #ProudlyMars #VeterinaryAssistantWeek

Eddie and Twixie have improved the quality of our family life in more ways than I have space to talk about in a LinkedIn post. And while they still greet me with excitement every morning or when I come back home from the office, Twixie in particular is getting older and struggling with her mobility. She’s getting the best care you could ask for with the expert support of BluePearl Pet Hospital. But it’s a stark reminder that pets age much faster than we do.   Recently, Royal Canin presented new research that confirms what is so obvious but so easy to forget: ageing doesn’t suddenly begin when our pets slow down. It happens gradually, often long before we notice the signs. Not unlike human health, the research showed that 44% of pet owners only start thinking about ageing once health issues appear, while nearly half avoid thinking about their pets getting older altogether. We look at our pets and still see the same personality, the same habits, the same joy they’ve always brought into our lives. As pet owners, we naturally want more years with our companions. But more importantly, we want healthier years. More walks, more energy, more moments where they still feel like themselves. This research is particularly timely as millions of pets that were acquired during the pandemic are now reaching middle age. Almost a third of pet owners say they spend more on birthday gifts for their pet than their children. However, this emotional connection is not always translated into early action, as over 2 in 5 only think about their pet ageing once health issues arise. While aging itself is inevitable, how pets age is increasingly understood to be influenced by factors such as nutrition, regulation of body weight, exercise and play, and regular monitoring with early intervention. It’s a good reminder for all of us that conversations about ageing shouldn’t start only when problems appear. The earlier we act, the better chance we have to help keep pets at their prime for longer. Helping pets live healthier, happier lives for longer is something we at Mars care deeply about.   You can read more about the reserach here: https://lnkd.in/eQguCTnz   #ABetterWorldForPets  #PetsInTheirPrime  #RoyalCanin

  • There is a unique kind of skill that comes to life when medical expertise meets a bit of creative compassion. Meet Bowser, a brave tortoise currently receiving care from our avian and exotics team at our Brandon, FL, hospital. After being attacked by a dog, Bowser was rushed to our hospital, and though his journey has not been easy, he is getting stronger every day! To help brighten his journey, Tiffani, a creative and compassionate veterinary technician at our Brandon hospital, transforms his bandage wraps into works of art. Healing takes time, but Bowser is definitely doing it in style. 🎨 These artistic touches are a beautiful reminder of the empathy and dedication our teams bring to the floor every day. We are so proud of Bowser's resilience and the talented Associates like Tiffani who go above and beyond to bring a little extra light into the recovery process. • When our veterinary teams come together to share clinical expertise, they foster a unique culture of mentorship that elevates the entire profession. Recently, BluePearl's managers of ER development, Adam Lancaster, DVM, DACVECC, and Lisa Powell, DVM, DACVECC, returned to the Mars Veterinary Health Training Centre in Novara, Italy. This marked their fourth year participating in a hands-on emergency training course for the AniCura Graduate Programme. Working with 25 early-career veterinarians, our doctors provided hands-on education in core emergency procedures, RECOVER CPR training, and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). This recurring partnership ensures that the next generation of veterinary leaders is equipped with the advanced skills needed to provide high-quality care when and where it's needed most. Dr. Lancaster shared, "The highlights of these trips is always meeting enthusiastic young veterinarians who are engaged and willing to learn! I'm grateful for the opportunity to provide these doctors with new skills so that they can help more pets and owners." "The ability to train these engaged and enthusiastic veterinarians and to work with the staff at the MVH Training Centre is one of the highlights of my teaching career," Dr. Powell said. "I am honored and grateful that Mars has given us the opportunity to share our skills to help make the world better for pets!" We are proud of Dr. Lancaster and Dr. Powell for their ongoing dedication to this program, traveling internationally to build a stronger, more connected veterinary community that is #UnitedInCare.
