Mental Health Awareness Starts with Connection Mental health is part of everyday life in every community across Berkshire County. It shapes how we think, cope, work, and connect with one another. And yet, stigma and misunderstanding still prevent too many people from reaching out for help. Mental Health Awareness Month is an opportunity to change that, but real awareness does not start with large campaigns. It starts with something far simpler: connection. A conversation. A moment of listening. A genuine check-in with someone who may be struggling. These small actions are often the first step toward someone realizing they are not alone and that help is possible. At the Brien Center, we see every day how powerful that first step can be. We also see the barriers that remain, including fear of judgment, uncertainty about where to turn, or not knowing what support actually looks like. These challenges are real, but they are not insurmountable. Help is available. Recovery is possible. And for many, the path to care begins not in a clinic, but in a conversation with someone they trust. This month, our focus is on strengthening awareness through everyday connection in families, schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods. When we talk more openly about mental health, we help people access support earlier, often before challenges reach a crisis point. Mental health care is not only for emergencies. It is also for prevention, stability, and long-term well-being. Early connection to care improves outcomes and strengthens the health of the entire community. Each of us has a role in this shift. Whether as a parent, teacher, employer, friend, or neighbor, we can help create a culture where asking for help is seen as strength, not weakness. Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder of that responsibility. But lasting change happens through consistent human connection, moments where people feel seen, heard, and supported. Because when connection happens, healing becomes possible. If you or someone you know needs support, the Brien Center is here. In this interim role, he will focus on listening and engaging across the organization, reviewing current operations, and supporting long-term sustainability while continuing to ensure high-quality care for individuals and families across Berkshire County. March is Gambling Awareness Month At the Brien Center, we recognize Gambling Awareness Month as an important opportunity to shine a light on problem gambling — a serious but often hidden addiction that affects individuals, families, and communities across Massachusetts. Problem gambling is sometimes called the “invisible addiction.” Unlike substance use disorders, there are no physical signs — yet the emotional, financial, and relational impacts can be just as devastating. This month, we want our community to know: ✔️ Problem gambling is a health issue — not a moral failing ✔️ Help is available, and recovery is possible ✔️ You are not alone Whether you’re concerned about your own gambling, a loved one’s behavior, or simply want to learn more, the Brien Center offers confidential support, counseling, and resources to help individuals regain stability and hope. Let’s use this month to start conversations, reduce stigma, and promote awareness. If you or someone you know needs support, reach out to us. Recovery starts with a conversation. #GamblingAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthMatters #RecoveryIsPossible #BrienCenter #CommunitySupport
