Sixteen Capuchino students, accompanied by CHS CTE and Career Coordinator Kim Koivisto and Family Engagement Coordinator Maria Fernanda Cely, visited the San Mateo County Joint Apprenticeship Training Center in Redwood City to learn more about the union apprenticeship and the application process. Training Director Abe Talakai Jr. led students in a hands-on activity to wire up a closed circuit. Dual Enrollment Hermanos Instructor and Skyline College Counselor Andrea Hernandez and Capuchino students attended the Spring Career Retreat at Skyline College which provided workshops on career exploration and student learning communities that better connect students to college. Congratulations to Capuchino High School's Indoor Percussion Team on their strong finish at the Northern California Percussion Alliance Championships in Stockton on April 11. They ranked 3rd in the entire Bay Area and 8th in the entire state with their show. Huge shout out to Percussion Captain Regina Radoc for being the recipient of a NCPA Scholarship! Congratulations to the Capuchino Indoor Percussion team - they earned 2nd place at the San Mateo Winter Show & Clinic at San Mateo High School on February 28! The group earned 1st place in the "Effect Music" and "Music" subcategories. Shout out to our wonderful students as well as their staff: byronne rodrigo (Percussion Caption Head), Aldric Hipolito (CHS class of 2023, Battery tech), and Eloisa Tristan (CHS class of 2023, Front Ensemble tech.) SMUHSD Music Programs Continue to Stand Out at Local Competitions February 6: CMEA Bay Section Jazz Festival Burlingame High School, Hillsdale High School SMUHSD, Mills High School and San Mateo High School all received Unanimous Superior Ratings at the CMEA Bay Section Jazz Festival on February 6. This rating is only given when all three judges score an ensemble above an 85 out of 100 and the performing ensemble sight reads at the same level. November is Family Engagement Month - Meet Fernanda Cely - Capuchino's Family Engagement Coordinator Fernanda Cely has been serving as a Family Engagement Coordinator at Capuchino High School for the past three years. Previously, she served as the Bay Area Associate Director at the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE) for seven years. Fernanda is in charge of running the Latino Parent meetings at Capuchino where she welcomes families in a warm environment where they feel appreciated and welcome. Fernanda is passionate about working with families to help them to navigate the school system, helping them to understand their rights and empowering families through education.
