A candid conversation with PhRMA President and CEO Stephen Ubl on what's driving the biggest shifts in biopharma: IRA, MFN pricing, PBM reform, and the growing push for more direct pathways to patients. CareMetx Executive Chairman Mark Hansan and cohost Scott Howell, MD go wide-ranging on where the industry is headed and what it means for patient access. 🎧 Click the link in the original post below to listen now. #PatientAccess #Biopharma #MarketAccess #HealthcarePolicy #PBMReform
In our new episode of #PrescriptionForBetterAccess, Scott Howell and I sit down with Stephen Ubl, President and CEO of #PhRMA, for a candid, wide-ranging discussion about what he is hearing from CEOs across the industry and where he believes the #biopharma industry is headed. We discuss the impact of the #IRA, renewed focus on #MFN pricing, the growing push for #PBM reform, and why manufacturers are beginning to explore more direct pathways to patients. We also talk about several initiatives underway at PhRMA to improve #affordability and #access, including efforts to connect patients to assistance programs, simplify access to medicines, and expand direct purchasing options for certain therapies. The discussion also covers the structural challenges in the system, the political environment, the risk of the U.S. losing its leadership position in biopharmaceutical innovation, and what it will take to continue bringing new treatments and cures to patients. Whether you work in #policy, #pharma, #patientservices, #marketaccess, or #healthcare more broadly, this conversation provides an important look into how one of the industry’s leading organizations is thinking about the future. A lot of intake innovation still relies on the same underlying dynamic: something is missing or wrong, so a case manager (or now an AI agent) reaches out to the provider to fix it. The contact is faster, but the provider still has to stop what they're doing and respond, and the enrollment still can't move until they do. Our latest piece makes the case for eliminating that dependency altogether. https://hubs.la/Q04g-wdM0 #PatientAccess #SpecialtyTherapy #IntelligentIntake

A single bad data point at enrollment can surface three steps later as a failed benefit verification or a misrouted PA. We wrote about why that pattern is so common, and what a different approach to intake can do about it: https://hubs.la/Q04gpk3c0 #HubServices #PatientAccess #SpecialtyPharma

Over-customization is one of the more underappreciated infrastructure problems in patient access right now. A lot of hub platforms have been built up over years, customized to the point where they're difficult to scale, maintain, and change when a program evolves. The market is moving too fast for infrastructure that requires a rebuild every time something changes. Good thinking from the CareMetx team on why this is worth paying attention to now, before it becomes a problem.

On National Nurses Day, we recognize the critical role nurses play in guiding patients through complex care journeys. Nurses are often the ones translating complexity into action—coordinating care, navigating barriers, and keeping patients moving forward. But too often, they’re doing it without complete visibility or real-time support. At CareMetx, we believe nurses should be equipped with the clarity and intelligence they need to act confidently, so they can focus on what matters most: supporting patients. Lupus is unpredictable- changing course from patient to patient, and often from day to day. But while the disease is complex, the system surrounding it doesn’t have to be. Delays, handoff gaps, and limited visibility only add to the burden patients already carry. A more connected approach- one that identifies barriers in real time and coordinates across stakeholders- can bring greater clarity to even the most complex journeys. Faster follow-up isn't the same as fewer problems. We wrote about why the industry is optimizing the wrong part of intake, and what it looks like to address the issue before it starts. https://hubs.la/Q04fx6qV0 #PatientAccess #SpecialtyTherapy #IntelligentIntake

During Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, we recognize the ongoing journey patients and caregivers navigate together. Alzheimer’s care evolves over time, but too often, support remains fragmented, requiring patients and families to manage each step on their own. At CareMetx, we believe support should move with the journey: connecting care, reducing gaps, and helping patients and caregivers move forward with greater clarity.
