The 16th annual Women of Style and Substance Fashion Show and Luncheon benefiting Children’s and hosted by Saks Fifth Avenue was held earlier this week. Proceeds from the event benefitted our Patient Family Experience initiatives, including our Hospital School Program, The Zone at Scottish Rite and Arthur M. Blank Hospital, our Canine for Kids Program as well as our Music Therapy and Artist-in-Residency Programs. We celebrated some of the most influential women making a difference in our community and honored one of our Children's Miracle Network 2026 Miracle Children, Mallory, in front of the sold-out crowd!

If you’ve recently walked down the halls of our Scottish Rite Hospital, you may have seen two joyful volunteers donned in fun, patterned shirts and green aprons, pushing a cart full of crafts and games into patient rooms. Those two friendly faces are Craig and Joel, who have been volunteers at Children’s for the past year and a half. It all started when Craig was looking for a way to give back to the community and make a difference not only in the life of a child, but also in the lives of their parents. But he didn’t want to do it alone, so he reached out to his best friend, Joel. Now, every Wednesday, they put on their themed shirts and deliver smiles to patient families. Whether it’s a game, a craft or a moment of distraction, their visits bring comfort and joy when it’s needed most. “We love that we can bring something different and make kids smile,” Craig shares. Our dedicated Children’s volunteers play a vital role in making a difference for kids. If you know someone who might be interested in getting involved, encourage them to learn more at choa.org/volunteer.

The reason for Luka’s big smile? He received a new kidney! After being diagnosed with end-stage renal failure, Luka needed a specialized dialysis using Carpediem—which wasn’t available in his hometown in Florida. Children's is the first pediatric hospital in the Southeast to offer this life-saving dialysis device. Luka was life-flighted to Children’s, where he became one of our very first patients at Arthur M. Blank Hospital. It didn’t take long for his family to see just how special his care team was. Inspired by the compassion and care of his nephrologists, including Dr. Garro, Luka’s family moved their entire lives to Georgia to be closer to Children’s. Less than a year later, Luka received a kidney donation from his dad! #DonateLifeMonth
