When Callie was diagnosed with a rare heart murmur and a narrowed aorta at just two months old, her journey with Children’s Cardiology began. Over the years, Dr. Sallee and the Center for Advanced Pediatrics team became much more than just doctors and nurses. To Callie and her parents, they became family. Later on, Callie was diagnosed with William's syndrome, a rare genetic condition with many cardiovascular challenges. Callie’s family found peace knowing she was in the hands of Dr. Sallee, and they credit his dedicated care for helping her grow into the vibrant, inspiring young woman she is today. As Callie begins the big transition from pediatric cardiology into adult care, she carries with her a support system like no other. While she may be moving on to a new chapter of medical care, the bond she shares with Dr. Sallee and her cardiology team are forever. No matter where her journey takes her next, whether she’s singing, cooking, or spreading awareness for Williams syndrome, the Children's Cardiology team will always be a part of her story. 🩵 #WilliamsSyndrome #PediatricCardiology

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta pediatric cardiologist Dr. Kevin Maher and a multidisciplinary team are partnering with Georgia Tech to advance 3D-printed, bioabsorbable airway support devices for infants with severe tracheomalacia — a condition that can leave children ventilator-dependent for months or years. Through the FDA’s expanded access program, Children’s is one of only a few centers nationwide using patient-specific tracheal splints that stabilize the airway and safely dissolve as the child grows. One of the earliest patients, Justice, received her custom device in 2020 and was able to breathe and feed independently within weeks. Now nearing her fifth birthday, she’s one of four children who have benefited from this technology at Children’s, with additional cases planned pending FDA approval. This work is also shaping the future: Children’s and Georgia Tech are developing a GMP-level 3D/Additive Manufacturing facility, opening in 2026, to accelerate pediatric device development, surgical planning, regenerative medicine, and personalized treatment solutions. This next step will expand capabilities from individual cases to a scalable, clinical-grade pipeline for pediatric innovation.
